"Reid, come on, it will be fun." Penelope said, following him into the bullpen.
"Garcia, I appreciate your efforts on trying to get me a date but I'm really not interested." Spencer replied, placing his bag down on his desk.
This was the third time Spencer had had this conversation with Penelope that week. Despite her great attempts of setting him up on a date, Spencer wasn't interested. Every time Spencer refused, Penelope would go on a tangent about how Spencer hadn't gone out on a date in years. Spencer had learnt to tune it out by now.
"JJ," Penelope said, gaining the blonde's attention, "Tell him that he should go out on a date."
Spencer and JJ shared a look. She was the only one who knew about the reason why Spencer always refused Penelope's attempts to set him up. JJ was the only person he told as he needed all the advice he could get.
"Penelope, Spence doesn't need to go on a date if he doesn't want to." JJ said.
"I thought you were gonna be on my side," Penelope said before sighing dramatically, "This isn't over Spencer Reid."
As Penelope walked away, Spencer gave a tight lipped smile towards JJ, "Thank you." He said quietly.
"Anytime." JJ spoke before heading to her own desk.

The next time Penelope approached the topic they were having dinner at Rossi's. Spencer was happily sipping on his water while everyone else sipped on their alcohol talking amongst themselves. Spencer was so caught up in his own head that he was surprised when Penelope suddenly sat down next to him.
"So, I have this friend who said they would love to go out on a date with you," Penelope said, "I was thinking next week if that's good for you."
"Garcia, I really don't want to go out on a date." Spencer said.
"Why not?" She questioned, "It's been forever since you even talked about going on a date."
"I just don't want to at the moment." Spencer replied.
"You said at the moment, so does that mean that you're open to the idea of dating soon?" Penelope said, "I'm going to set you up on so many dates!"
"That's not what I meant-" By the time Spencer had finished speaking, Penelope had already hopped up from her seat and was frantically texting.

"You do know that you should tell everyone soon otherwise Penelope is going to set you up on many more dates." JJ said while taking a seat next to Spencer.
Spencer sighed, "I know that but I like having my personal life separate from my work life. When I go home it's like everything I see at work doesn't exist, it's a safe space for me. I know I should probably tell everyone but I just want something that's just to myself."
"And I understand that but the longer you leave it there is a possible scenario that everyone will know due to circumstances which are not ideal." JJ said.
"I will tell them, just in my own time." Spencer says before standing up from his chair to refill his drink, ending the conversation.
***
The unfortunate circumstances to which JJ was talking about came to pass once Spencer was injured during a case. Luckily the bullet that struck him missed all of his vital organs so he would be okay. As he was sitting in the hospital room after his surgery, he was quietly reading a book. The doctors wanted to keep him in the hospital overnight to make sure everything was okay before he was discharged.
The doors to his hospital room opened and he instinctively looked up. As soon as his eyes landed on the person who entered the room, he smiled.
"Y/N? What are you doing here?" Spencer asked.
"You really think that if you get shot JJ wouldn't call me?" Y/N says, striding over to his bed and carefully pulled him into a hug, his book now completely abandoned.
"You seriously need to stop taking your damn vest off." Y/N mutters into his shoulder.
"I know and I'm sorry if I worried you." Spencer said.
"It's not me who you worried, JJ reassured me that you were okay," Y/N said, "But Maddie was worried beyond belief."
"Where is she? Is she okay?" Spencer asked, his eyes suddenly widening.
"She's perfectly okay. I left her with my mom." Y/N explained.
"Why didn't you bring her here?" Spencer said.
"Trust me she wanted to come but she was tired beyond belief, she was falling asleep in my arms," Y/N said, "But she did say to me before she fell asleep that she wants to see her daddy tomorrow."
Spencer smiled, tears beginning to well in his eyes, "She really called me her dad?"
Y/N nodded with a smile on her face, "Yes she did, Spence. You are her dad, you may not be her biological father but you've been there a lot longer than him and you are a better father than he ever was. And if I'm going to tell you this, you can't tell Maddie I told you," Y/N said, "Maddie said that she was afraid of calling you dad because she was afraid that you didn't think of her like your daughter."

"What? Or course I think of her as my own daughter," Spencer said, "Why would she think that?"
"I don't know, I suppose that since she isn't your biological daughter she may think that you don't think of her as your daughter."
"Well I am her father and I'm definitely going to talk to her once I am out of this hospital." Spencer said.
"Do you know how much I love you?" Y/N questioned, "Because it's a lot."
Spencer smiled and leaned forward, pressing his lips against Y/N's in a sweet kiss. All he wanted to do was leave the hospital and go home to his daughter - his family.
"Woah, what is happening in here?" Derek said, stepping into Spencer's hospital room followed by the rest of the BAU. Spencer and Y/N broke apart as Y/N stood by his bedside staring at Spencer's co-workers.
Derek had a confused look on his face as his eyes darted between Spencer and Y/N, "Pretty boy, who's this?"
Spencer cleared his throat, "Um, this is Y/N, my fiancée."
"You have a fiancée?" Emily questioned, "Since when?"
"He proposed to me five months ago, we've been dating for about three years," Y/N answered Emily's question, "It's nice to finally meet you all by the way. I've heard great things."
"Wait, so Reid, you had a fiancée and you didn't tell us?" Derek spoke, "Hotch, did you know about this?"
"I didn't but I had my suspicions," Hotch answered, a hint of an amused smile on his face, "Every Friday night when we don't have a case, Reid leaves at the same time like clockwork. Recently he requested two weeks off from work. I assume it has something to do with your wedding."
Y/N nodded in confirmation, "Next month we planned to get married, it was only going to be a small ceremony, just me, Spence and our daughter."
"Wait, your daughter?" Derek exclaimed, "Reid you have a daughter?"
"Technically she's not my biological daughter," Spencer says, "Y/N had her before I even knew her."
"Yeah, her biological father is a dick," Y/N said which in turn caused light chuckles to chorus around the room, "Her name is Maddie and she's seven."
"I'm sorry for not telling you all," Spencer began, "I wanted to but I just wanted my work and personal life separate."
"Reid, it's okay, now we understand why you kept declining when Garcia offered to set you up" Derek said before turning to Y/N, "It's nice to meet you."
"It's nice to meet all of you too," Y/N said with a smile, "None of you really need to introduce yourselves, I practically know you all already with how much Spencer talks about you all."
"I think we should leave Spence and Y/N alone for a while," JJ spoke up, "I'm sure she's been worried about him. We can all see him later."
Y/N mouthed a small thank you to JJ before the blonde sent her a wink as everyone bid their goodbyes. Once everyone was out of the room, Y/N turned back to Spencer, who had a slight look of confusion on his face.
"What was that between you and JJ?" Spencer questioned.
"What was what between me and JJ?" Y/N asked innocently.
Spencer chuckled lightly, "You know what."
"Well I was going to tell you when you got back from the case and surprise you with Maddie but you getting shot kind of ruined those plans," Y/N said, "JJ already knows because she's the one who was with me when I found out. And my mom knows because I needed to tell someone-"
"Y/N, what is it?" Spencer asked cutting her off.
Y/N didn't reply, she only took something out of her bag and held it up to Spencer.
Once he realised what it was, a smile broke out on his face, "You're pregnant?"
Y/N nodded excitedly, "I am."
"Oh my god!" Spencer said pulling her into a hug but winced when he put pressure on his wound.
"Careful." Y/N chuckled.
"I just- you're pregnant!" Spencer said, shock still evident on his features, "How long have you known?"
"A week," Y/N answered, "When I went out with JJ last week, that's when I found out, she was actually the one who made me buy a test. I just thought I was getting ill from your cooking."
Spencer pulled her in for another hug, this time a lot more gentle, "How is Maddie with all of this?" He mumbled into her shoulder.
"She was probably more excited than you," Y/N said, pulling away slightly to rest her forehead on Spencer's, "She said that she was excited for a little sister. She's adamant that it's a girl."
Spencer smiled, "I don't care if it's a boy or a girl, I can't wait for our family to grow."

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
