《Hostage》S I X

Right now, I'm sitting outside the police station waiting for this officer to come out. Richard Smith, it seems, is the police officer's name. He's been doing a lot of research on Manny and attempting to lock him up for years, but I think he didn't have enough evidence on him. Manny wants me to kill him, so he must be getting close to the evidence.
I was so out of it that I didn't even know my phone was ringing. I looked at the screen, and Manny was calling my phone. He's getting on my nerves, I swear. I don't want to do this, so he needs to come do it.
"Yeah?" I asked annoyingly.
"Did he leave the building yet?"
"No, he hasn't. Can you stop calling, please? You're making me nervous."
He started to laugh loudly on the phone. "I don't care about that. Get used to it. When he walks out of the building, I want you to follow him, and wherever he stops, you'll kill him."
For a brief moment, I stared at the phone and went back to talking. "What if he stop at his mother's house? Do you really want me to kill him in front of his mother's house?"
"That isn't my issue. As long as the job is completed." He hung up the phone as soon as he said that.
I glared into the space, wondering what he had said. He is a cold person who is unconcerned about his actions. The police officer exited the building and got into his vehicle a few minutes later. He revved up his engine and accelerated down the road. I pulled off as well, but I kept a good distance away from him so he wouldn't notice me.
He took a few turns and almost got me lost. He continued driving for a while longer before coming to a full stop at this apartment complex. I parked the car and put my ski mask on quickly. Before I kill him, I took the gun and double-checked that it was loaded with bullets. Before he could even say or do anything, I jumped out of the car and rushed up to him, firing a couple of bullets.
He tried to gasp for air, and he also tried to put pressure on his wounds, but it was too late. His face, which was white, turned purple, and as soon as I saw someone turn on the light of their room, I ran to my car quickly and pulled off as fast as I could. I pray and hope that nobody has seen me commit this kind of crime.
I dialed Manny's phone number to let him know that the police officer will no longer try to find evidence on him. A couple of rings went by and he finally answered the phone.
"Did you kill him?" He bluntly asked.
"Yes, he's no longer alive. You won't have to worry about him any longer."
"Later, you'll have another task to complete. I've got an order for some pills from a couple of guys, and I'd like you to send them to them."
I squeezed my eyebrows together. "Are you serious Manny? You want me to deliver drugs after I literally killed someone? Like, at least, you can give me a damn break for once."
"Have you got the money? Of course not, so you're going to do whatever the fuck I say. If you don't like it, I can easily put a bullet between your eyebrows and send your chopped off head to your mother, and I know you don't want that to happen."

I huffed angrily. I can't believe this guy is so malicious. "Alright. I'm going to deliver the pills for you."
He chucked a little. "Ah, I knew you were going to change your mind."
He hung up on me before I could even say something. I began to bang my head against the steering wheel. I can't take it with all of his insane demands. It's driving me crazy, and I don't know how long I can take this.
I rode quietly to my father's place. I can't wait to get in the shower and get some rest because I didn't get much sleep since I moved here. I pulled into my driveway a few minutes later. I parked the car, locked the door, and walked right in. When I look down on the floor, I see that Tom's blood has left a small stain. I didn't get to know him enough, but I knew he was a nice guy.
I rushed upstairs, stripped off my clothing, and dashed into the shower. I switched on the hot water and began to wash my body. I just want all the dirt and blood to get off of me. I was in the shower for about 15 minutes before exiting. I took my towel and wrapped it around me. When I looked in the mirror, I noticed that I appeared tired and irritated. I brushed my teeth and did my skin routine rapidly.
The doorbell rang as I was trying to find some bra and panties. I started to feel anxious and uncertain of what to do. Is it possible that someone is attempting to seek revenge on me for murdering those people? Is it possible that someone else is looking for money? I took the pistol from the dresser and walked downstairs slowly. The closer I got to the door, the faster my heart started to pound.
I point my gun at the door and slowly open it, only to discover it's Manny on the other side.
He turned the gun away from his face. "If I were you, I wouldn't do it."
I ruffled my hair with my fingertips. "You scared the shit out of me. What exactly are you looking for?"
He closed the door and placed his hands behind his back.
He was sitting on the couch, putting his foot on the table. "We've got some business to discuss."
I was giving him a confused look. "You couldn't wait until the morning to talk about it? Like I'm really tired, and I really want to get some sleep. I haven't even had proper sleep thanks to you since I got here."
He was looking at me as though he wanted to kill me. "You think I give a fuck about that?"
I tilted my head slightly to the side and folded my arms. "I mean, give me a break Manny. I've been doing everything you've told me to do lately. The only thing I ask for is a short break. For me, killing people and distributing pills is a dangerous and terrifying job. I've never done anything like this before."
He got up so fast, grabbed my arm and put his gun under my chin. "Who the hell do you think you're talking to? One thing about me is that I don't fuck around with my money, and when I say I need something done right away, I mean it. You think you're in charge here, huh? Do you think I'm not going to hurt you, Angel?"
I just looked at him and didn't say anything because I was afraid that if I said anything, he'd shoot me. The doorbell rang before he could finish his sentence. He shoved me to the door, and I stared at him as if he was crazy because he didn't have to push me like that.

"Answer the door and see who it is."
I instantly cooled down instead of saying something insightful to him. "However, you didn't have to push me like that." I said whispering to myself
I opened the door slowly, and Spooky was at the door. He laughed as he looked at me up and down. He's laughing as if something were amusing. But I'm happy to see he's okay. He appeals to me more than Manny.
"Every time we see each other, you're always laughing. What the heck is so hilarious?"
He pointed to the towel that I had around my body. "You and Manny must be did the nasty because I see you're all wet and your hair's messy."
I pretend that I was about to throw up. "First of all, not too long ago, I just got out of the shower. I haven't had sex with your rude ass friend."
He continued to laugh, sitting right next to Manny. They started talking, so I ran upstairs quickly to put on some clothes, because if my towel had dropped in front of both of them, I would have been so embarrassed.
I put my bra on and my panties on. I changed into some cute pajamas and threw my hair up in a messy bun before returning downstairs to see what the hell we were going to talk about.
I sat on the opposite couch because I didn't want to be around them both. "So, what do we have to talk about that is so critical that I couldn't go to sleep in my bed?"
After a brief glance at me, Manny began talking about the business. "Lorenzo Fernández is the person who attempted to assassinate my men and steal my drugs and money. Before he tries another trick, I want him dead. I'd like you to go into his warehouse and murder everybody there, and I mean everybody. If he tries to take my men out, I'll try to take his men out as well, but the difference is that his men will be dead. Prepare yourself for this assignment."
This job seems to be more complicated than the others. What if they have bigger weapons than us and we have to shoot everyone in the warehouse? What if they're a lot better at shooting than we are? My stomach hurt more the more I thought about it.
Spooky rubbed his hand against the bullet wound on his shoulder. "I can't wait to put a bullet in that fool. His men came dangerously close to killing me. I'm glad the bullet just grazed my shoulder."
As much as he gets nerves, I have to say that I'm glad he didn't die either. He's a lot cooler and nicer than Manny.
Manny and Spooky began conversing in Spanish, which I immediately interrupted because I needed to sleep badly. My eyes were heavier than a bag of stones.
"Are you through talking about what you had to say? I'm extremely tired, and I'm ready to go to bed."
Manny stared at me with a deadly glare, and I ran upstairs to my room and jumped into my bed. I tried my best to close my eyes and go to sleep, but all the bad things I did keep popping up in my head. I can't wait until it's all over, because all this stuff is eating me alive. I went to sleep slowly but surely.
-------------------------—————————————
I awoke with the sensation that I didn't want to get out of bed. As I turned to the other side of the room, I found a man lying next to me, his shirt stained with blood. I yelled and leapt from my bed. I dashed downstairs to see if Manny was still here, and he was. He was sipping from a cup while looking on his phone.
He grinned as he looked at me. "Good morning, darling. How did you sleep last night?"
I was enraged as I looked at him. I get the impression that he does this stuff on purpose to irritate me, and that's not cool.
"Why is there a guy sleeping next to me who has blood on his shirt?" I asked him with so much anger in my voice.
He put his phone down and concentrated entirely on me. "He didn't want to go to the hospital, so he made himself comfortable and explained that he needed to rest."
I squeezed my eye brows together and began pacing back and forth. "If I'm not wrong, this is a mansion with roughly 9 to 10 bedrooms, but you choose mine?"
He reclined on the couch with his legs crossed. "I figured you might be in need of some company."
I came to a halt in my pacing and fixed my gaze on him. "First and foremost, I didn't need any company; second, why are you still here; and third, why couldn't you take him to your home?"
He started laughing as if something was entertaining. "I'm still here because I know how sneaky you are and I thought this was the best place for him to rest. A king-sized bed is a fantasy come true for everyone."
Before I could say something, the man who had been wounded upstairs came downstairs, went into my refrigerator, took my jug of water, and drank it as if it were his.
"First of all, sir, don't go into someone else's refrigerator like you're paying bills here."
He fixed his gaze on me and began speaking in Spanish. I turned to face Manny, expecting him to translate what he had just said to me.
"He said that he is unconcerned about what you are saying to him. He was desperate for something to drink."
I stared at him as if he had gone crazy. "Please don't make me put another bullet in you."
Manny translated what I said, and they both burst out laughing, as if I had just told the most hilarious joke ever. The man was able to return upstairs without difficulty. All the way to the refrigerator, I rolled my eyes and stomped my foot. I was about to make myself some breakfast when the doorbell rang. Manny pulled out his pistol, which shocked me because I thought he had invited Spooky over.
He got to his feet and pointed the pistol at me. "Open the door and see who it is now."
My mouth literally fell to the floor as I slowly opened the door. My stomach started to hurt, and my heart started to race.

Many Minded
Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author. Sod's Law (Dropped)
This fiction has been dropped, you're more than welcome to read it anyway (there is sort of an ending). But you have been warned... Sod's law is a more extreme version of Murphy's law. While Murphy's law says that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong (eventually), Sod's law requires that it always goes wrong with the worst possible outcome. For example, concepts such as "bad fortune will be tailored to the individual" and "good fortune will occur in spite of the individual's actions" are sometimes given as examples of Sod's law in action. This would broaden Sod's law to a general sense of being "mocked by fate". In these aspects it is similar to some definitions of irony, particularly the irony of fate. - Definitions of Sod's Law on Wikipedia. The protagonist, as many before them, and many who followed, thought they were just entering a VRMMORPG (Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing-Game). Unbeknownst to them however, was a short paragraph in the Terms & Conditions, that, upon agreement, would actually transport them to a fantasy world, loosely based on the game they thought they were entering. - Something anyone could be forgiven for, no-one reads them after all. In this new world, they discover that people are born with “Traits”, a System recognised, ability, skill, or talent, that they are born with. Sod's Law was not a trait they, or anyone else for that matter, would want. Pure madness follows. Yup, this is about a character transferred to a fantasy game-world with the worst luck imaginable. This is my first fiction so I apologise for any grammar and spelling mistakes that may be made. Hopefully it is readable, and if so please tell me! But if it's not, also tell me, but in a constructive way if at all possible? Due to the nature of the “Trait” the story will be dark in places, with plenty of gore and profanity, hence the tags. There may also be scenes of a sexual nature, but nothing full on – sorry guys but you'll have to go elsewhere for that.
