《Tracks》Chapter 39: Tattoos

"I swear if we could kiss under the moonlight all of our problems would disappear"
Song- Someone new;Hozier
Cam and I walk through the city with our hands interlocked. We pass the giant Farris wheel we saw earlier in the night. The part of the city we were at felt totally different than where the restaurant was at. So many different people walked around, playing games, eating food from trucks and listening to music.
All the stores and restaurants had their doors open for people to come in and out as they pleased. The atmosphere brought an even wider smile onto my face.
"This place is so cool!" I nudge Cameron who smiles down at me, kissing my forehead.
"I thought you would like it here." He nods and starts pulling me down the street "I have a surprise for you."
"What is it?"
He freezes and turns to me, groups of people walk around me "it wouldn't be a surprise if I told you."
After pushing through the crowd we end up at a tattoo and piercing parlor. I look at Cam suspiciously but he leads me in and a guy around our age sits at the counter, reading a magazine.
"Scott!" Cam announces, the guy looks up and smiles.
"Cameron! It's been forever." He walks out from behind the counter. "And this must be your girlfriend."
"I'm Marlee." I reach out and shake his hand ignoring the fluttering feeling I got when he called me Cams girlfriend. I liked the sound of it. "So are you getting my name tattooed across your ass or chest?"
"Both actually." Cam teases as Scott goes behind the desk and typed something into his computer. "Actually we're giving each other tattoos."
"We are?!"
"Well, only if you're up for it?" He raises both of his eyebrows in a challenging way.
"Of course I am but isn't that illegal?"
"Scott went to Baseball camp with Theo and I, his dad owns this shop so I called in a favor." He explains, wrapping an arm around my waist.
"Okay, we got the room all set up." Scott looks up from the computer "it's the second door on the left" he points down the hall.
"Thanks for this." Cam thanks as we pass him.
"I owe you from that time Theo and you saved me from that giant canoe." Scott comments earning a loud chuckle from Cameron.
"I almost forgot about that." He turns back to me and walks down the hall.
"What giant canoe?" I ask, he opens the door to a room with a table full of tattoo stuff and a soft chair.
"Long story"
"Ow"
"Ow!"
"OW!"
"Will you shut up?!" I look up at Cameron from his thigh where I'm tattooing a small M on it. It was his idea that I honestly thought was crazy but he convinced me.
"It hurts." Cam whines, leaning his head back. "Are you almost done."
"Yeah" I focus back on his leg and finish the last part before turning the gun off. Scott comes in and helps Cam clean and wrap his tattoo. The two talk about baseball as I sit in the chair nervously preparing for my tattoo.
"You ready?!" Scott leaves the room, wishing me luck and Cameron sits on the small rolling chair next to me.
"Sure" I anxiously fiddle with the bottom of my sweater. He grabs my hand and places a hand on my cheek, turning my face to him.

"If you don't want to do this we don't have to. I won't be upset, I promise." He kisses me softly, brushing a piece of my hair back.
"No, I want to. Just promise you won't tattoo a penis or a ass on my leg?" I have no doubt that's what Theo or Asher would do.
"I promise." He laughs, grabbing the gun from the tray between us. "Where do you want it?"
I think for a moment before shuffling and pulling down the waist of my pants slightly. Right on my lower waist is where I point to and he nods, cleaning the area. A slight sting in the shape of a C slowly makes its way onto my hip.
"How are you not in pain?!" Cam asks in shock, shaking his head.
"Because I'm not a big baby." I ruffle his hair as he finishes up and turns off the tattoo gun. I look down at it and smile. A C with a heart around it sits on my waist matching Cameron's M with a heart around it on his upper thigh. We figured it would be the easiest to hide from our parents that way.
"How'd it go?" Scott questions when we walk out of the room.
"Good, I was 90% sure Cam was going to cry." I slap his stomach and Scott chuckles.
"I think I saw a tear fall down his cheek when I was wrapping his leg." Scott adds, both of us teasing Cam.
"I did not cry." Cameron crosses his arms and glares at both of us.
"Sure you didn't." Scott pats his shoulder and I fist bump him.
After saying goodbye to Scott and trying to give him some money that he refuses, we start walking back to the hotel. We take our time, taking in the night sky and the music around us. When we get to the hotel room I can barley change before I plop on the bed and fall asleep with Cameron's arm wrapped around me.
When I wake up the next morning I reach over to Cam. Instead I only feel the soft bed. Peaking an eye open I take note of his empty place beside me. I push myself onto my elbows and spot him in the desk chair, tying his shoes.
"Where are you going?" I ask groggily, running my eye with the heel of my hand.
"To pick up Dads gift." He says softly, standing up and grabbing his hoodie off of his suitcase. He sits next to me, pulling the hoodie on and looking down at me. "Go back to sleep, I'll bring back some coffee."
"Donuts too?" I grin as he brushes a piece of hair out of my face.
"Donuts too." He agrees, leaning down and kissing me. When he stands up I fall back onto the bed and go to sleep.
The smell of warm coffee wakes me up for the second time. Cameron leans over me with a cup of coffee in his hands. "Morning sleepy head."
"Morning." I yawn, sitting up and grabbing the coffee. He sits next to me, opening a box of donuts on his lap. "Did you get it?"
"Yeah, dads going to love it." He beams over at me, taking a large bite of a donut and turning the tv on.
I reach over and grab my diabetic bag, pricking my finger and reading the numbers. I clean my finger off and set it to the side after quickly taking insulin. Once I'm done, I grab a donut from the box on Cams lap and take a huge bite.

"Mmm" I close my eyes enjoying every ounce of the delicious donut.
"Do you guys need some space?" Cameron jokes, motioning from me to the donut.
"Yes please, you're yesterday's news. I'm not married to this donut." I inform him, kissing the donut.
"You cheated on me?!" He asks distraughtly. "What about our 17 kids?"
"They're not even your kids, there the mailman's!" Cameron gasp, placing a hand over his heart.
"I trusted you!" He fake cries. We both look at each other for a minute before laughing hysterically. We laugh so loud I'm surprised we didn't get a noise complaint from the other hotel rooms.
Once we're calmed, we drink our coffee and eat more donuts while watching tv. Cams hand is placed on my knee and his other arm is wrapped around me.
"I talked to Ma." He breaks the peaceful silence. "The car was making some weird noise earlier so I took it to the shop, they said it won't be fixed until tomorrow." He winks, turning to me.
"Wow, what a shame."
It was around 12 when we drag ourselves out of bed to get ready for the day. Okay actually Cam had to drag me out of bed. He was already dressed and had way too much energy. I stomp into the bathroom and brush out my hair, suddenly remembering that I got a tattoo last night.
I lift up Cams shirt that I was wearing and look at it, smiling to myself. It was tiny and looked meaningless but it made my heart swell. That I had something that he did forever on me and he had the same.
Even if something horrible happens, even if in 20 years from now were strangers married to different people or hate each other. If I look at the tattoo and remember the feeling I feel now, remember the joy and the love, then it will all be okay.
I only hope that Cam feels the same.
I get dressed in some baggy blue jeans, a random cropped shirt and a black jacket over it. It was a little chilly today and a storm was coming in tonight. I leave my hair wavy from yesterday's braids before going out to the room again.
Cameron sits on the bed, watching the tv that has a random sitcom on it. He turns to me when I walk in and scans my body. "You look hot."
"Don't I always?" I smirk as he stands up. He places both of his hands on my waist and pulls me into him.
"Always" he whispers, leaning down and connecting our lips. I pull him closer by yanking on his hoodie, deepening the kiss. I pull apart first and when I do, he pokes out his bottom lip.
"If we keep doing that we won't make it out of the room today." I tell him, stepping away.
"And that's a problem because?"
"Because we only have a day left and I wanna explore." My statement causes a sigh from him but he nods, grabbing the hotel card.
"I guess your right."
"What else is new?"
We walk around the city, taking in all the sights during the day. We have a million photo shoots that are completely ridiculous and earn weird glances from the people around us but we were to busy laughing to care. A couple hours later storm clouds roll in.
We're about 6 blocks away from the hotel when a raindrop falls on my head "it's raining."
"No it's not" Cam looks around, reaching his hand out but when no rain hits his hand he sends me a triumphant look. "See?"
When he puts his arm down a large drop of water hits his forehead and trails down his nose. I giggle and say "see?"
"We better head back before it starts raining too hard." He tells me, the second he finishes his sentence a loud crash of thunder shakes the ground and rain stars pouring.
"Too late." I grin, grabbing his hand. We start walking at a fast pace back to the hotel but when the rain starts pouring even faster we make our way up to a jog.
Once we reach the hotel our clothes are sticking to our skin, our hair is stringy and soaked and water drips off of us. Cameron shakes off the water, the receptionist scoffs and looks away. Getting on the elevator, I rub my arms to try and warm myself.
"Well now we have an excuse to lay around the rest of the day" Cam comments when we get back to the room.
"Perfect!"
I change into dry clothes and ring out my hair. Cam was on the bed in new clothes too, flipping through the movie program. I lay next to him and he shuts the paper, throwing it next to him.
"Find any movies?"
"Nothing good." He shrugs, turning his head to face me. "But there are other things we can do to pass time." A mischievous smirk forms on his face.
"And what might that be?" I play along, running my hand down his abs.
"This." He whispers, kissing me intently.
I pull back and look up at him "I guess this'll do"
We're in the middle of a movie when I get a FaceTime call from Mom. I crawl out of bed and walk to the bathroom, answering the call.
"Hi honey." Her face appears on screen and the kitchen fills the background with the familiar sound of Grayson and Cam arguing behind her. "How's it going?"
I tell her all about the city and all the cool things we've seen along with the best donuts I've ever had. I leave out the parts about the tattoos and everything else that Cam and I did.
"Bring me back a donut!" Theo yells to the phone. "Give me the damn remote!" I hear him demand fo Grayson.
"No!"
"How long until the truck is going to be fixed?" Mom quirks a brow and I see her sending a warning glance to my brothers saying with her eyes that they better stop. Confusion washes over me until I remember what Cam told Sara this morning.
"Oh, in the morning. We should be back sometime tomorrow." I explain, sitting on the large bathroom counter.
"Okay, we'll have fun and be safe." She scratches her nose and glances at her watch. "I have to get to work but I love you."
"I love you too."
"Bye Marlee, don't so drugs without me!" Theo screams so loud it hurts my ears.
"Too late." I laugh and can imagine his face.
"Love you Mar, see you tomorrow." Graysons face pops on the screen, his face was slightly red and he was out of breath.
"Bye Gray."
A second later they hang up and I'm met with my Home Screen. I take this time to text all my friends back who I forgot to text earlier. Once I'm done I hop down and go back to the room.
"Bye Ma." Cams phone is pressed to his ear. He nods when she says something and pulls his phone away from his ear, hanging up. "Wanna go swimming?"
