《Deception (Book #1) ✅》~5: You'd be Dead by Now~

I looked at the massive hand that was securely pressed against the front door. My skin crawled with the urge to scream.
Taking a couple of steps back I watched as Caleb moved in front of the door crossing his arms. He looked more intimidating with his arms crossed. The veins in his arm made intricate designs that trailed from his hand to his elbow.
The cuffs of his white tailored shirt were folded to his elbows revealing his sun-kissed arms.
His blue eyes seemed to glow as he stayed fixated on my ever move.
My chest was heaving as I struggled to keep my composure of being kidnapped and trapped in this place. My heart was in a panic beating at a speed I would surely collapse from.
Trying to focus on my next step of survival I quickly turned around dashing down the hallways of the building.
The hallways was decorative with maroon and gold wall paper. It looked like something out of the 18th century. How old was this place? I wondered continuing to run trying in my endeavor to find a safe place to be.
I jiggled the many different gold coated door knobs in hopes of finding one that was unlocked. It took forever before one of the doors creaked open. I nearly fell inside still panicked from Caleb.
The room was dark only a sliver of light came from the gap in the drapery. My heart pounded against my chest as the foot steps grow louder and louder as they approached the door.
Thinking quick I crawled beneath the bed holding my breath as the steps stopped. I cupped my mouth with my hand fighting my desperation to let out a sob of panic.
The door crept open and my heart sank. The door was clicked shut as I saw a pair of black dress shoes stood inside.
He took a deep intake of air. My heart was in the brink of having a heart attack. Why was I here? What is going on? Who is this person? Why me!?
The shoes walked to a chair sat in front of the windows. His looming silhouette radiated pure and intensional power and for some reason it was petrifying and alluring. He exhaled the large breaTh he had taken earlier.

And there was silence. Pure and deep silence. It was quite but yet so intense with tension of the unknown. I felt like time was beginning to slow and just before I though it had all but stopped he spoke.
"I know you're under the bed." He stated as if it were blatantly obvious.
My eyes drew wide with the fear and realization that I was at the mercy of this man. I didn't move however.
"Listen if I wanted to hurt you I would have already. Now come out from under the bed." His smooth voice held so much purpose.
Evelyn you can just expose yourself to this man. You have no idea what he wants from you. My thoughts flew throughout my mind at an alarming rate, too fast for me to really weigh my options.
I slowly crawled out from under the bed. The moon light that creeped from behind the drapery lite the king size bed in the room but nothing else. I was concealed in a blanket of shadow as was he. Only his dark silhouette sat on the plush chair at the end of the bed.
I stood on the furthest side of the bed from him nearest the bedroom door. I could make it if I did hesitate and run down the stairs and out the front door.
It was only him and he was sitting down so calmly.
Why was he sitting so calmly? I began to think. He most have thought about my desire to escape this place. Why wasn't he more on edge about my position and stance right now?
As if reading my mind I raced to the door pulling it open swiftly only for him to slam it shut. I let out a chocked up sob of regret.
A low grumble was distinctly heard behind me as I felt Caleb's massive body just inches behind me. Was that him? Was that noise really from him? It couldn't possibly.
A few tears began to pool in my eyes. Frustration and panic were beginning to consume my every movement and thought.
"I am not going to hurt you." He spoke again. This time his voice was low and soft. He spoke as if he were trying to soothe my fears and uncertainty.

I was dumb, I knew how these things go. A girl gets kidnapped never to be seen again. She's sold, used, drugged, and dumped. I didn't want to be like one of those girls.
"Am I suppose to just believe that?" I said my voice nothing more than a squeak.
He moved his large hand over mine that was holding the knob tightly ready to yank once he moved away. Of course he hadn't though. Grabbing my much smaller hand he enclosed it in his own gently but sternly as I tried to fight against it.
He pull our hands from the door gently placing his left hand on my shoulder pulling me back from the door. I had my eyes squeezed shut too nervous and scared to open them. I didn't want to see what was about to happen to me.
"Yes." He answered his voice to rich and alluring. "If I wanted you dead or hurt I would have done so by now." Caleb reiterated to me in hopes that I would some how take his word for it.
He released his hand from mine and his other from my shoulder. I took this as an invitation to continue my pursuit of escape. I moved swiftly to the windows on the opposite side of the room.
I hadn't gotten far though as Caleb wrapped his arm around my waist. In one swift motion I was picked off the floor and thrown back onto the massive plush bed. I huff escaped my mouth as I tried to catch my breath that he had knocked out of me.
I quickly moved the stands of my hair that fell onto my face. I caught a glimpse of blue eyes and immediately backup on the bed falling backwards off the other side. I curled up behind the bed looking over just showing my eyes.
Caleb's eyes shined sapphire blue. They looked just like those outside Aurora's house just blue.
"Stay away from me!" I screamed pure terror evident in each word I spoke.
Caleb let out what sounded like an animalistic threat. I started to cry totally petrified of what I was witnessing before me.
He stepped around the bed but another plea to stop had put a halt in his movement. He look down with those blue orbs that had me cowering behind the comforter of the bed.
In a blink of an eye I hand had a strong but gently grip on my neck. I was lying flat on my back tears brimmed my eyes making his figure nothing more but a blur. All that stood out were those blue eyes. They were blue with such rage and fury.
I cried out scared to die. I wasn't ready. I was only 21. I couldn't go now! I had som much to live.
He lowered his face his nose brushing ever so gently over my forehead. His breath fanned my face making a tear roll down my cheek. His other hand trailed up my side his finger tips brushed softly against my tender smooth flesh of my waist that was exposed.
"P-p-please.. don't... h-hurt me." I chocked out.
Caleb's grip loosened and he leapt from hovering over me to his feet. I laid still not moving a muscle as I watched Caleb close his eyes taking in a deep breath. When he reopened his eyes they didn't shine any longer. They were dark as the shadows casted by the moon darkened his facial features.
It felt like an eternity as we studied each other. My chest was rising and falling with panic. I was mere moments from having a panic attack.
As if someone saw this Caleb left the room quickly closing the door and locking it. Leaving me in the darkness of this erie room.
I was thankful though. I would rathe let be trapped in this unsettling room than trapped in here with him.
What were those eyes?

A Girl and Her Food
When a lost girl wakes up without a name, she quickly finds herself alone in a way that people around her can’t fix. Without a real plan and desperate to find what’s wrong with her, she thrashes and bites to stay alive. But human beings are weak things, that band together for strength, no matter who we are. Now if only she could work up the courage to ask one question... It’s normal to get stronger when you drink the blood of monsters. Right? Things to expect: - A powerful but kinda neurotic and emotional protagonist, with some degree of weak to strong. Or maybe strong to stronger, honestly. She's pretty rational and practical about things but won't always make the best decisions, so be warned if you super-dislike characters doing dumb stuff for emotional reasons sometimes. - Lots of dialogue and characterization, especially as we get more into it. It's focused on a single POV, but there might be some sections of other POVs later on, I'm not sure right now. - Magic is on the softer side, but I'll try to keep things fleshed out enough to avoid any obvious "well-established magic could have seemingly instantly solved this problem" moments. - I didn't add the mystery tag because I feel like it implies that this is a detective novel or something, but the story is absolutely incredibly opaque at times. So you'll have the most fun if you go into it trying to puzzle out the nature of events before they're explicitly explained!😇 - Also, I added the genre for completion, but it's gonna take a while to get to the romance. Please wait warmly and have some tea. Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge!
