To say my grandparents and sister were shocked about me and Penny pregnant was an understatement, apparently, my grandma almost fainted at the news. My family had heard stories about Penny from Ed and me, mostly just about her fiery personality and how she never backs down from anything I give her.
Penny and I were supposed to go to my grandparents for thanksgiving but my sister ended up getting the flu and we didn't want to risk anything and get everyone sick so we stayed home and we'd see them for Christmas. Since Penny was in her words 'overly' pregnant we had invited Ed and Savannah to my house for thanksgiving.
We switched places for the time being and Penny was staying here. I smile wrapping my arms around Penny as she drops the pies on the stove, "smells good Pens," I tell her.
"Well you and the married couple won't let me cook anything else but pies so," she shrugs.
"That's because you've mastered the art of pie-making," I say and she chuckles. I grab her hand and twirl her around to face me.
"Okay honestly I love my daughter and all but I am so excited for her to leave my body, I can't anymore," Penny grumbles and I laugh placing a hand on her stomach. She has been so grumpy and moody lately and I knew the rest of her pregnancy would be like this, I didn't mind though.
"Want help feeling better?" I ask her teasingly. She shakes her head.
"I am in no mood for sex Phillips, and I don't think I will be, so blue balls for you again," She pats my chest and I laugh.
I nudge her forehead with my own and she tilts her head up a bit, "after getting a taste of you Pens, I wound wait centuries for you," I tell her and watch her cheeks redden.
"And that point your balls would be nonexistent," she blurts out and I laugh.
"Only you Valentine would turn a soft moment into a terrible one,"
"Sucks for you Phillips but you are stuck with me," She muses leaning up, her baby bump putting space between us, something I wish wasn't happening.
"Yea and honestly, I don't really mind," I shrug before she kisses me.
"Hello! We've entered the house! Please don't be having sex cause Alex we need help!" Edmund suddenly yells and I pull away sighing.
"I'm going to take away his key," I mumble as Penny pushes me away and out of the kitchen. I greet Savannah, who was already walking through the front door, with a kiss on the cheek before jogging to their car and helping with the rest of our dinner.
Friends-thanksgiving was officially successful and it was a silent agreement that this would be a small tradition between us four.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Xander" Penny exclaims, I pop a kale chip into my mouth as I move towards the door. Penny had been trying new recipes and one of them has been kale chips, I wouldn't tell her it to her face because that would boost her ego and she'd get the chance to tell me I told you so but kale chips was one of the things I've enjoyed since she started trying new recipes.
"What's up, baby?" I ask meeting her at the door.
"You've got a package," she says jutting her chin to the box on the porch.
"Weird I didn't order anything," I tell her as I brush past her and grab the box, I set the box on the table by the door and hand Penny her purse. "Text me when you get to work?" I ask and she nods, "drive safely, it's snowing all day," I tell her and she nods.
"Drive safe too," she smiles leaning up on her toes and kissing me. I smile before giving her a quick kiss and holding out the door for her.
She had gone in early to work today because of a meeting, I pull out my phone as it rings, greeting Dave with a hello and grab the package again.
Cradling my phone between my shoulder and ear, I listen to Dave as he rants about how Scout cheated in their recent challenge, yes they were still fighting about who was gonna be godfather to Addie. Penny told me to not let it go on any further because she felt bad.
"What the fuck," I mumble.
"What?" Dave asks me, stopping his rant. I grab my phone and put it on speaker as I slowly.
"I got a package and it's a stuffed elephant with a pink tutu on it," I tell him. "Is this one of your challenges or whatever?" I ask him.
"Uhh no? What the fuck?" He chuckles. Picking up the note at the bottom I furrow my eyebrows at the letter.
Congratulations on expecting a baby girl!
"Well that's fucking weird," I mumble putting everything back in the box.
"You know what's weird?" Dave asks me and I hum as I grab my keys off the counter and turn the lights off in the kitchen. "That you didn't listen to my rant! I'm trying to be the godfather to your daughter idiot!" He exclaims.
"Oh my god," I grumble shrugging on my jacket.
"What? You want Scout to be the godfather," he scoffs, "please," he sighs.
"Bye Dave, I'll see you later," I laugh.
"Bring some decent coffee please," he says before I hang up. Of course, I had to get coffee for the team because honestly the coffee at work was not the best and the unit needs a new coffee maker, that thing is ancient.
"Oh, I could kiss you," Dave sighs dramatically as I hand him his coffee once I've finally walked into work, a little bit late just because of the snow and getting the coffees.
"Phillips, Nash," William says as I swing my jacket around my chair. I turn to Lauren and she shrugs. I follow her up to William's office. Lauren takes a seat on one of the leather chairs as I cross my arms.
"You remember that case from about a year ago? The club one, you two did?" He asks. We both answer with a yes sir. He tells us how we need to do a follow-up on the court case and now Lauren and I were headed to DC.
"You sure you don't mind driving? Cause I totally can," Lauren says as we slide into my car.
"It's fine Lauren," I chuckle reversing out of my spot.
"I'm only asking because you look tired," She muses flipping open the case file in her lap, the case we did a year ago.
I nod slowly as I exit the parking garage, "Penny got a late-night craving so we made a cake,"
"You guys made a cake?" She deadpans shocked. I nod.
"At two am," I confirm, she whistled lowly.
"Why'd you join in? You could've just let her do it herself," Lauren chuckles.
"Oh hell no, I made it quite clear that we're a team and I'd do all her late-night cravings with her," I tell her, she awes and I roll my eyes.
"That's cute, that will make parenting easy," She nods and I hum. "So the boys and I are having a bet on if you're going to ask Penny to marry you right after your daughter is born like the same hour or whatever or later," she chuckles.
"What? Why?" I ask her.
"Uhh because it's clear that you two are smitten for each other,"
"We aren't actually together, romantic wise," I tell her glancing back and forth before turning to the left.
"Excuse me? But you guys act like one, especially that one time we came over to play poker," She points out.
I shrug slowly, "we aren't together like that, I don't know it's weird I guess, I'm not really sure where we stand," I trail off.
"Well you love her, don't you? I mean everyone can see how much you love her," Lauren says and I remain quiet. Because for the first time since I found out Penny was pregnant and we've been sleeping together I never sat back and considered my feelings for her.
The rest of the ride to DC I knew I was fucked now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Pens?" I announce, sighing softly as I close the front door behind me.
"Kitchen!" She announces, after shrugging off my jacket and kicking off my shoes I enter the kitchen and was immediately hit by a delicious smell.
"Hmm, so what have you conjured up today?" I ask kissing her cheek.
"Buddha bowls," she smiles excitedly. "Lea gave me the idea today at lunch," she shrugs. And I smile.
"Well I've got dessert," I muse, she raises an eyebrow and I reveal the plastic bag from behind my bag. "Crepes from your favorite place in DC," I said placing it on the counter. She squeals and leans up kissing me.
I chuckle against her mouth, "I could give you a blowjob right now," she blurts out. My dick just woke up.
"Well be my guest," I nod and gesture to the ground. She rolls her eyes and swats me. "Come on Pens get down on your knees," I joke and she flips me off.
"How was your day in DC?" She asks me as we sit down on the couch, I turn on Outlander, a show we've been watching together.
"Okay, Lauren and I just worked, talked to a lawyer all that jazz, it seriously wasn't fun," I shrug as she leans into me. "This is good," I compliment the dinner and she thanks me.
"Guess being apart of the FBI isn't all about kicking down the doors and flashing your badge Huh?" She chuckles.
"The one thing I hate about my job is the file work because there is lots of it," I tell her with a shrug. "How was your day at work?"
"Well we had the meeting, talked about new paintings all that jazz," she waves her hand, "someone came in and wants to see how we do weddings at the museum,"
"You guys do weddings?" I ask shocked. She hums.
"You know, like how some people do weddings at a public library or something,"
"People actually do that?" I question again.
"Oh god you innocent soul to weddings," She chuckles and I roll my eyes.
"Those are probably nice huh? The weddings at the museum?" I ask. She shrugs.
"Yea their beautiful but I wouldn't do that kind of wedding, remember the twilight wedding?" She asks and I nod slowly.
Unfortunately, I did know about the twilight movie wedding. When Penny was on bed rest she made me binge watch the Twilight movies, I was slightly embarrassed by that and we pinky swore to never tell anyone I watched them.
"I wanna do a wedding like that," She confirms.
"You hinting at something Pens?" I joke,
"Oh please, like you could ever get me to marry you," she teases back and I chuckle.
"I mean I already got you pregnant," I shrug and she rolls her eyes. We remain quiet as we finish our dinner, my conversation with Lauren about me loving Penny completely taking over now. I couldn't imagine Penny marrying someone besides me and that's what shocked me the most. That I was jealous of imagining Penny marry someone else.
We stayed on the couch watching Outlander for most of the night, she had laid down and placed her head on my lap, a blanket draped over her body, she had fallen asleep about half an hour ago, her hands resting on her stomach. I glance oversleeping body and sigh.
She slowly rolls over, closing towards me and the back of the couch. I place my hand on her stomach before leaning over and kissing her stomach, "I love you," I mumble. If anyone saw it may just be me saying I love my daughter but I think I meant it for both my girls.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It wasn't every day that we got an anonymous call that someone was about to bomb a marathon and once we got that call we were headed to Texas. It wasn't something I was expecting, especially with Penny being so far into her pregnancy I kinda didn't want to leave but this was my job.
"You didn't have to get me flowers Xander," Penny says, "I mean I never really begged you like that kind of, guy," She says.
I furrow my eyebrows from behind my Ray-Ban sunglasses "uh what?" I question her.
"The flowers?" She questions. "Xander," she trails off.
"Pens baby I didn't send flowers?" I trail off. We remain quiet as I watch the runners go past me.
"Okay now I'm lost," She chuckles awkwardly.
"Did you get a note?" I question. It was hot in Texas, I mean it's always hot no doubt but I couldn't imagine how the runners were taking it, doing a marathon in this heat, kudos to them honestly.
"Yea," I hear shuffling, "it says you look nice today,"
My jaw ticks, something was wrong. Something was definitely wrong.
"Pens," I begin.
"Should I be worried?" She asks me.
"Did you see the delivery person?" I ask her.
"No, it was already in my office when I got in," she tells me. I curse under my breath.
"Somethings wrong," I tell her and she agrees. "Fuck I should've realized it at first,"
"Realized what?" She asks.
"Remember that package I got? It was a stuffed elephant with a stuffed tutu and a note that said congratulations on expecting a baby girl" I tell her.
"Xander," She says.
"Okay I don't want you to stay home alone until I'm back, can you ask Sav and Ed to stay?" I ask and she immediately answers yes. "I don't like where this is heading but you can't be alone, I should've known something was wrong with that damn package,"
"Xander I'm kinda scared," she lets out a small laugh.
"Shhh it's okay baby, I'll figure it out when I get back just stay with Sav and Ed okay?"
"Okay," she sighs.
"We've got him!" Someone yells into the earpiece, "he's on the run!" The same person announces.
"Pens I gotta go, but I'll try and be home soon," I say and she reminds me to be safe before I hang up and rush around the crowd watching the marathon.
Right now I couldn't let whatever was happening to Penny and I let it get to me because I was on a different case and this mattered first but it didn't help me not to worry about Penny and Addie. They were essentially my life and someone will be damned if they ever hurt either of them.
The Trespasser
Synopsis Following his di—instincts, David finds himself in a weird situation; the next thing he knows, he's in a different world, dying, and manhandled by a big-ass alien. When the Source comes to his aid, granting him the access that—like every other sapient—he's due, David barely manages to get out of the fight with his life intact, but is that enough? Of course it isn't. The very Source giving him powers is also poisoning him to death. Oh, there she is, the petite female alien. Will that be enough to save him? Of course it won't. If he wants to be saved, he has first to save himself. The only way to do so is by getting to know the world around him, but even before that... Why the bloody hell did I have to be called Deviant!? *** Blurb? Blurb. The Trespasser starts slowly, I believe I've written a decent world, and I want you to find out what it's all about, won't just throw it in your face because of *levels*. I do not like stories that don't make sense. David is not a murderhobo, he respects life and answers to the world and the weird situations thrown at him with irony and sarcasm; so you are looking for easy killing streaks, you will not find them here. So, a man finds himself into the wild? It's a different world, and yet he can breathe its air? Finds himself in a lucky-low-level zone? Oh, look at that, people speak English—how likely is that? So, nope, not for me, gentleman. You won't find anything of the likes here. Again, a man finds himself in a new world but only thinks about the system? Yeah, that's not exactly how it works. David will try to find out what it's really all about, what the aliens want, how they work, why is that Fay really helping him? You can kill somebody to get levels, and yet there is not even a form of police? Not gonna happen here. Man becomes suddenly overpowered in a world where people can live for thousands of years by having enough luck to face only lower-level people? Hahaha—nope. Lastly...Spaceships and fantasy with LitRPG... say what!? Well, what's wrong with that? Let's make it happen, shall we? *** You want even more info? Really? Alright... David will start from the very bottom of the food chain, so there will be a settling arc—it's inevitable. David will find true companions, with personalities and backstories, and they will have a life of their own. There will be enemies, and those enemies will have a life of their own, too; there will be no evil just because. The world-building will have true depth; it will not exist just because the protagonist visits it. There will be both Fantasy and (Soft) Sci-fi—yeah, you heard that right. There will be rationality to every action taken, as long as the characters are aware of what is going on. There will be a godly system. You will come to read because of the world-building, but you will stay for the characters. The dead stay dead, and you will weep for them. There will be no action without a reaction. Lastly, there will be laughs. Are you still up for it? Then get in but fasten your seatbelts because it's going to be a wild ride. *** Release Days: Twice a week Release Time: ~09:00 PM UTC Words per chapter: ~3000 This web novel is also available on other platforms.
Midori
The sea of stars. The momentaneous lifeforms that flicker far away. Our futures — a sea brimming with light. Each and every shimmer in the starry canvas serves as one’s infinite opportunities in the vast sea of the future. The world, however, is far from the ideals of such a mantra. Complacency is the enemy of progress, yet to the four known nations, each one sees enemies around their borders. An example: A village isolated from the nation of Alkai prevents the lives of many from progressing. It’ll take a society, a group, even a whipped together rag-tag team to jump start the quest for progress.
