I had never been inside any FBI buildings, police stations yes, obviously, after my parents but an FBI building, especially FBI headquarters was different. I felt more intimidated as Alex showed me inside. A few agents nodded at Alex as a greeting and Alex responds with the same head gesture, just eager to go inside and get this situation fixed.
"Hey Penny," Dave says. I smile at him as the rest of Alex's team trails into the conference room. The man who entered the room after the team I recognized was Alex's unit chief.
"Special Agent William," he introduces himself as we shake hands.
"Penny Valentine," I say and he smiles a bit.
"Oh trust me I know, I wish we had met on different circumstances," William says and I nod slowly.
"So you actually think you saw the guy?" Lauren asks me and I slowly nod. They had just gotten back from Texas last night and when I told Alex I think I saw someone following me last night when we got back to his house, and here we were sitting in the FBI.
Lauren and the boys besides Alex glance at each other, "was this man you think you saw?" William asks placing a photo on the table. I lean forward and grab the photo. I gulp and stare at the photo.
From beside me, I can feel Alex squeeze my shoulder "Pens," he says softly, from the corner of my eye I see him crouch down. "Baby, what is it?" He asks.
"This is him," I confirm, "this is the man following me," I say. "He was also one of the males at the museum hostage," I tell them and they slowly nod.
"He was the one that got away, the one we thought left the state," William tells me.
"Are you kidding?" Alex questions standing up obviously pissed off, I ignore him, he rants loudly as I continue to stare at the picture.
"Penny?" Lauren asks, my eyes snap up and she was sitting across me, leaning forward on the table a bit. "What's wrong?" She asks me as the room goes quiet.
"I um, when they took of the museum, he said he knew me, he knew all about me,"
"So what? He's been following you since before the museum?" Alex asks.
"Could have been," William nods "was the stuffed elephant and the flowers the only thing you two have gotten?" He asks and we nod.
"You two, especially Penny aren't safe," Dave sighs leaning back in his seat.
"Good observation idiot," Scout mumbles and Dave flips him off. I place the photo back onto the table and lean back slowly, placing my hands on my stomach,
"It's true you aren't safe, either of you, we have to take precautions, tight ones especially because your pregnant Penny," William tells me and I nod.
"I should've shot him in the head when I had the chance," Alex mumbles pacing the floor.
"You couldn't have done anything," Bill tells him.
"If he were dead or in jail like the others this wouldn't be happening, my family wouldn't be in trouble," Alex says loudly.
"Phillips," William warns.
"Chief I'm sorry but you of all people should know how I feel right now," Alex sighs. I bite my lip.
"You know this really isn't our case," Lauren begins, "we aren't authorized," she says lowkey.
"You are now," Lily says walking into the room and putting files on the table. "This is our team and we protect our own so it is our case," She says.

"So what do we do? This isn't a terrorist attacking, he's a stalker," Dave points out.
"We set up a protection detail, you two aren't safe at Alex's house, stay at Penny's apartment. No packages or flowers were sent there, for now, we set up PI's but until then we can't do much," William sighs. "Are you heading into maternity leave soon Penny?" He asks me.
"No I'm working until Christmas then I'm on Mat leave,"
"Okay, until then we tighten security,"
"And then what afterward?" Lauren asks.
"Depending on the situation we either ride it out or security service," William says and the room falls quiet. "Everyone's dismissed, Alex you can take the rest of the week off, I'll send over the security man to come over later at Penny's apartment," William says before walking out.
Once Alex and I were seated back in his car, we lean back into his seats, "this is not what I expected," I mumble. Alex sighs and reaches over grabbing my hand before turning to me slightly. He kisses the back of my hand.
"You don't have to worry or be afraid of anything okay? I've got it and I won't let anything happen to you," he tells me sincerely, "to both of you, because what I said was true, you and Addie are my family," he says and I nod slowly.
He reaches up and wipes my cheek, "no one will even come close to hurting you two as long as I'm alive," he assures me. I nod again and he leans in kissing me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I read online once that reading whilst pregnant can help develop early language learning, honestly, Alex and I had a good talk about it and kinda found it weird and he more or less found it stupid but I did find myself reading a book or two to Addie, especially if Alex wasn't home.
I could hear him, in the living room, talking in hushed tones as I was laying in bed, a Robert Munch book open. I remember mom used to read Robert Munch to me every night when I was growing up, the pages always ended up getting paint all of them because she was always painting.
I knew Alex was stressed for the sake of the both of us, I couldn't allow myself to get stressed, that's what I've been telling myself at least. Honestly, someone else should be pregnant and have a stalker who was apart of a terrorist group following you.
As I finished reading the current Robert Munsch book I place it on my nightstand and grab the scrape book I've been making. It consisted of Polaroid pictures of my stomach, not every week just when I noticed my bump starting to get bigger, the sonograms, my symptoms all that.
As I settle against the pillows again Alex walks in with a tired expression "you just missed me reading to Addie," I chuckle.
"I thought we said that was weird," he cracks a smile. I shrug as he plops himself on the bed beside me. I slowly flip through the scrapbook a smile on my face the whole time, I knew Alex was watching too.
"You okay?" I ask him softly as I flip to the next page it was actually a Polaroid of Alex and me.
"No," he answers truthfully. "Are you okay?" He asks me.
"No," I reply. Alex sits up and turns to me.
"I'm going to find him, whatever it fucking takes, I won't rest until he's either dead or in a jail cell," he tells me softly. Tucking a piece of my hair behind my ear he sighs, "and then you and I are gonna raise the most beautiful daughter ever," he hums.
I nod, he kisses my ear before tilting my chin and kissing me on my lips "no one will ever be as important as you two," he tells me, grabbing the scrapbook and moving it aside before pulling me into him. I place my head on his lap and turn towards him, my eyes feeling heavy. "We'll be okay," he mumbles.
I had been having trouble sleeping throughout the whole night, it was usually because I was uncomfortable, because I was you know pregnant. Slowly turning my head to Alex he was passed the fuck out, no doubt he was tired.
Slowly pushing the covers off me I try to lift myself out of bed, hoping I didn't wake Alex up. He told me if I ever had any late-night cravings I should wake him up but the man like never slept, ever it seemed like, how does one do it honestly.
Opening the fridge it was full but despite it full I didn't want any of it, like always. Alex is gonna get mad about the fridge being stocked with leftovers.
I don't know what it was but the number of pickles I have gone through being pregnant with Addie was very concerning. Before I never touched a pickle in my life and now I was eating pickles and peanut butter at two am.
A loud gunshot rings out making me freeze, "Pens!" Alex yells, another one fires and I jump. Alex rushes in, his gun was drawn. He motions for me to come closer and I immediately fall into step beside him. He quickly moves us back into the bedroom.
"Xander," I mumble as we hear police sirens. He squeezes my hand before moving towards the windows, slowly drawing the curtains back.
"Fuck," He grumbles. His phone rings and he answers it, "yea we're fine, come on up," He mumbles. He walks towards me and cups my cheeks.
"You okay?" He asks and I nod, he kisses my forehead. "This is why we do midnight snacks together," he mumbles and I roll my eyes as he pulls me into a hug.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was nervous to meet Alex's grandparents and sisters, he had told me how they reacted to me being pregnant but when we walked into his grandparents they had greeted me with tight hugs and big smiles.
Alex's sister, Stephanie, and her husband had two kids of their own, still young in their age but she and I couldn't help but talk all things pregnancy and babies once we were seated on the couch. Alex's grandmother was just as nice, asking me if Alex was being good to me and how I felt during this pregnancy, I wasn't sure if Alex had told his family about the man stalking me so I held my tongue.
"Are your parents excited for a grandchild?" Stephanie asks me cradling her son in her lap.
I clear my throat, "my parents died when I was sixteen, home invasion," I say slowly "Alex never told you guys?" I question.
"He didn't, but I am so sorry dear," His grandma says squeezing my arm. I shrug.
"It's okay, it was a long time ago," I assure them. That was the sentence I used every time someone asked about my parents, and it normally wasn't okay.
"Alex tells us your daughter's name is Adelaide? Addie for short, what a coincidence both of you had mother's name as Adelaide," Mrs. Phillips smiles. I nod immediately.
"I feel like it some sort of sign from both of them," I chuckle placing my hands on my stomach. Mrs. Phillips excuses herself to go check on dinner.
"You know when Alex told us you were pregnant, I was damn near kicking him in the butt but when he was talking about all the sonograms and you, I just knew my brother would make an amazing dad," Stephanie tells me, her daughter twirling around in Christmas day dress.
"It was a shock but Alex has been absolutely amazing," I say truthfully.
The older woman beside me chuckles, "it's weird seeing him bring someone home, and see him be absolutely in love with you. I don't know how you did it but," she smiles and I return the gesture.
I still didn't know where we stood, we couldn't keep ourselves off each other, I could feel his presence from ten miles away if I could. I often found myself wondering what would happen if I told Alex my feelings, feelings that aren't sexual.
"are you gossiping about me again Steph?" Alex says walking in with his brother-in-law.
"Please, don't get too cocky," Stephanie rolls her eyes as Alex sits down beside me. I immediately fit my body beside him like a puzzle. His large hand comes to rest on my stomach, smiling. As I watched him talk to Stephanie while rubbing my stomach it was at that moment I knew I loved him, I was absolutely and completely in love with him. I was fucked now.
The rest of Christmas Day went smoothly, Alex and I were kinda on edge still though considering what was going on.
"Where's Alex?" I ask Stephanie as everyone gathers at the front door at the end of the night. Stephanie shrugs.
"Somewhere here, didn't he go warm the go?" She asks and I shrug as I button up my jacket. Soon Alex and Mrs. Phillips come around the corner and I could see Alex blushing from here as he shoved his hand into his pocket.
"Okay," Alex chuckles with an eye roll as he reaches for his coat. Soon goodbyes were happening.
"Call us dear after Addie is born, we are excited to meet her," Mrs. Phillips tells me as we hug. I laugh.
"Of course," I smile as we pull away.
"Drive safe dear, and take good care of her," she says turning to Alex.
"Always do," Alex smiles leaning down and kissing her cheek. I lean back into Alex's passenger seat since he had turned on the heated seats for me.
"Well now that Christmas is over, it's baby time," Alex says winking at me as he pulls out of the driveway.
"You're excited to be a dad huh?" I ask rubbing my stomach.
"Uhh hell yea I am, you kidding?" He scoffs, "that kid is gonna be hella spoiled you won't even know,"
"Oh god, please lord save me," I chuckle.
"Someone wants to date Addie? Please, gonna have to go through me and the FBI,"
"Xander!" I gasp, whacking him on the bicep, he laughed, he actually laughed. "Don't be an idiot,"
"No one is good enough for my little girl, I don't know why you're trying to hide it Pens, you think the exact same," he says and raises an eyebrow at me quickly. He technically wasn't wrong.
"Oh my god," Alex mumbles.
"What?" I ask.
"We're gonna be parents," he mumbles turning the wheel with one hand. I laugh.
"Yea, did that just hit you now? Come on Xander, I thought you were smart," I tease.
"Haha," He mocks, "parenthood is different from single life adulthood," he says.
"What you gonna miss the bachelor life?" I chuckle, "we all know you'd get all the ladies in the clubs," I muse.
"You think with my job I'd be bringing home girls? Come on Valentine," He scoffs jokingly.
"With your moves in bed, I would say yes," I nod and he laughs.
"Please baby you love my moves," he says and winks at me quickly.
"Not wrong," I mumble. Alex reaches over and intertwines our fingers together.
"Hey Pens," he sighs, I hum in response. "We'll be okay," he nods and I nod slowly.
"Yea, we will," I say. He lifts our hands and kisses the back of my hand, squeezing it gently, I give him a soft smile which he returns.
