《Married By Chance》Chapter 5: Why are you here?

Nicole's outfit above.
I've been in my room for twenty one hours. I slept, woke up and took a shower then came back to bed. June has brought food which I refused to it.
I can't stop thinking about that video. I look at my phone. I haven't touched it since yesterday. I'm sure I have lots of messages.
He looked so happy.
I'm supposed to be happy too but I can't. I think of him every single day. To be honest, I didn't realise that I love him this much till he left.
My bedroom door barges opens and Nicole strolls in. "Time to get up." She says.
I look down at my lap. "I don't want to." I say emotionlessly.
"Is that the letter Liam left you?" She points at the letter in my hand.
It is, I read it almost everyday. I don't know why. Probably because it's one of the last reminders I have of him.
"Yes." I nod.
"Can I see?" She asks softly.
"Sure."
She walks over to the bed and collects the letter then she tears it into pieces.
My eyes widen. "What is wrong with you?" I yell at her as my tears start falling.
"We've had enough of this! It's been two fucking months! If that's not enough for you, try to remember the fact that he has moved on! So stop sitting there and mopping around like you fucking lost everything! The girls and I are here for you! Your family is here for you!" She shouts as she also cries.
"Do you know how I felt after your mum told me what you said yesterday? You want to die because of that stupid video?! Is Liam really worth all of that? Do you have no idea how many other people love and care about you?" She continues, still crying.
It breaks my heart to see her like this.
"I'm sorry. I just love him so much!" I cry harder.
She comes on the bed and hugs me. "I know but it's time to move on. Liam told you to move on and to be happy. You know he's not coming back and even if he does, what are the chances of you getting back together? You're married and he has clearly moved on. Do you want to spend the rest of your life being miserable?" She speaks.
I look into her bright blue eyes and shake my head. "I don't."
A smile grows on her face. "You and Liam were in love but it's all over now. It's time to leave all that behind and start a new chapter." She says and I nod in agreement.
"Do you want to be happy?" She asks.
"Yes."
"Then I want you to keep it in your mind that you are our hero. You agreed to this marriage for your siblings, for us. You gave up your love for us. I can't let you give up your happiness. You are the strongest girl I know. You deserve to be happy and you will be."
My lips quiver. "B-but how?"
She sighs and holds my hands, fixing her sitting position."I know you loved Liam and he loved you. Your love was so beautiful but you've broken up. Unfortunately, you have passed all the stages of breakup except one."
"What?"
"Acceptance. You need to accept that it's over and it's not happening again because he's gone. You have to accept that Ameliam is over." She says sadly and a tear drops from my eye.

I don't want to! I don't want it to be over. I want him back. I want to feel his love again.
"How do I do that?" I cry softly.
She takes the pieces of the letter she tore. "First, we are going to put this back together and you're going to read it one more time."
"Okay."
Since the paper was torn into roughly six pieces, it doesn't take us long to put it together.
After we finish reading it, she looks at me. "What does this tell you?"
"That Liam didn't love as much as I love him. He gave up on me." I answer.
She shakes her head. "If he had stayed, would you have agreed to marry Adam?"
"Of course not!" I exclaim.
She cocks an eyebrow. "Think again."
I just give her a confused look. I said it several times. If Liam had stayed, I wouldn't have agreed to marry Adam. The council can go and fix their shit.
Nicole sighs. "You and Liam are the most selfless people I know. This letter tells me that he loved you but he had to leave for us and all the elite kids. Even if he had stayed, I definitely know that you two would agree to give up your relationship for everyone, right?"
I sigh and close my eyes. Would I? The last thing I want is for anyone to get hurt but I really love Liam. I honestly don't think I will.
"No. It's not like someone's life was on the line. It's just money. We can live without it." I say, unemotionally.
"But my mum said Daniel promised to hurt us if he came back. You said that was the reason you agreed, Amelia and something in me really tells me that you will." She continues.
I don't know why she believes that but I don't think I will ever give up anything for Liam. "I don't know, Nicole." I shrug.
She sighs and holds my hand. "The problem is Liam Black is a coward. Instead of him to stay and face reality, he ran away from it and that is the difference between the two of you. You're stronger than he is. You could have ran away or say you wouldn't marry after your dad gave you the choice but you stayed and agreed to marry even though you didn't want to."
"Only God knows what's going to happen if Daniel Black comes back. It may be good, it may be bad. I just couldn't take the risk." I push a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Well, everyone loves you for that."
I just give her a shrug.
She grabs my hand and we stand up together.
"Where are we going?"
"Downstairs." She replies, gathering the pieces of paper in her hand.
I push my hair in a ponytail and we go downstairs. We enter the living room and she stands in front of the fireplace.
"Here." She hands me the pieces of paper. "Burn it."
"What? Why?"
"You said it's the last reminder of Liam that you have. When you breakup with someone, you try to forget them not remember them."
I sigh. "Fine."
I close my eyes and throw the papers in the fire. I watch them turn black and then they quickly become nothing.
Nicole hugs me by the side as we stare at the fireplace. Soft tears are pouring out from my eyes. "You know I just learnt something."

"What?" I wipe my tears.
"You see the paper is a perfect representation of your relationship with Liam. It was a single beautiful relationship but then Liam tore it into pieces, your marriage with Adam is the fire that the paper was thrown into and you got burnt and became a black paper."
"And now I'm nothing?" My lips quiver as I speak.
"No, not you. Your relationship with Liam."
That makes me burst into more tears.
"I know it's hard, Amelia but you have to try! You don't need a guy to be happy. I mean look at me, I'm too lazy to be in a relationship and I'm doing alright. Emily and Colton have each other. It's you and me against the world."
"Yes, it is." I smile and I hug her.
I don't know how long we hug for. I'm only crying softly on her shoulder.
Our moment ends when I hear hands clapping by the door. I break away from Nicole and turn around to see Tyler. "I should probably get a tissue." He fake cries.
I laugh and go over to give him a hug. "When did you get here?" I ask.
"We came together." Nicole answers.
"Really?"
"Yup, I was hanging out with your hubby." Tyler replies.
"Oh."
"He called me." Nicole says.
I look at her in surprise. "Really?"
"His assistant but same thing." She shrugs.
I don't say anything but I look down. Why would he do that for me? Is it all because of the guilt? Whatever, I'm still grateful. I will thank him later.
"So Camilla, Jas, Chloe and Val are on their way here. They're bringing some food."
"Okay." As I say that my eyes meet Tyler's. "You're going to eat, Milly."
****
"I can't believe Aaron did that to Luisa." I scrunch my face in disgust. "Why was she even with him in the first place?"
Aaron Hardwood is the ultimate bad boy of Hardwood University. He's handsome and very hot. We went to high school together and we kind of hang out sometimes.
The Hardwoods are part of the council but they are very low-key. The family of course owns the university we all go to.
Luisa Stan is one of my friends at school. She's the shy type but apparently she and Aaron had been hanging out but after they finally slept together, he told her that was all he wanted her for.
Jasmine shrugs. "Now that Liam is gone, he is number one on the guy's hot list and every girl in Hardwood wants to do him."
My eyes widen. "He is?"
"Yeah, don't you know that?" Val asks me.
Valerie Heathman became friends with Nicole in our freshman year because they both study fashion design. Over the years she and I also became friends.
"I don't have the app."
"Girl, you're missing all the gossip."
"I don't really care about that." I shrug.
Tyler, Chloe, Jasmine, Val, Nicole, Camilla and I are all sitting in my favourite sitting room in the house. It's modern, edgy and very classy.
"It's getting late guys, we should go. I don't like driving late." Camilla says looking up from her wristwatch.
"It's like eleven am and it's not like we have classes tomorrow." Chloe says.
"Yes but last time I drove late in the night, I ended up getting kidnapped by my supposedly boyfriend." She snaps.
The room grows silent and we all exchange looks. We haven't spoken about Jamie for a while. He's a sensitive subject for all of us.
"Why don't you guys sleep over? I can go ask Adam." I suggest.
"But I don't have any clothes here or a toothbrush or my favourite shampoo." Nicole frowns.
"I will ask someone to get you guys everything you need in the morning and you can wear my clothes." I quickly say hopefully. I would really like to have them sleepover.
"But-" Val starts.
I bring my hands together in a begging style. "Pleaseeee."
"Fine." They all laugh and I throw my hands up in excitement.
****
After lots of gists and conversations, I head to Adam's room to talk to him but he's not there so I decide to check his home office.
I knock on the door and he asks me to come in.
"Hey."
He looks away from his Apple computer and looks at me. "Everything okay?"
"Yeah, well um...." Why am I so nervous? I realise that this is the first time I'm in his office. It's very well furnished. Well, honestly the interior of this house is amazing.
There's a long white couch by the side, a uniquely styled book shelf, a beautiful Versace desk that he's sitting behind. The black carpet is made of fur. So soft. The walls are plain white, no wall paper and the curtains are white as well. Everything is so neat and organised.
I keep looking around the room till something finally catches my eye.
"You have a hover board?!" I ask Adam in surprise.
"Why are you here?" He asks in a cold tone.
I roll my eyes at his tone. Grump!
"I want to ask if it's okay for the girls to sleepover?"
He sexily bites his lip."You don't have to ask me. This is your house too."
"Yeah, um I just thought-"
He cuts me off. "You thought wrong. You can do whatever you want, I don't care."
"Okay. No need to be mean." I glare at him.
He ignores me and continues doing stuff on his laptop. Unbelievable!
One minute he's nice and the next, he isn't.
As I step out of the office, my phone starts ringing and I see that it's my mum. "Hello."
"I booked you an appointment with a therapist."
"What?" I exclaim.
Who does she think she is?
Your mother.
That still doesn't give her the right to do shit. I'm an adult.
"I'm worried sick, Amelia. I've been thinking about you since I left your house. I couldn't concentrate on my meeting."
I roll my eyes. "Real smooth, mum. Making everything about you as usual." I say as I walk back to the sitting room.
"That's not what I mean and have some respect, lady." She raises her voice.
"Whatever, I'm not going."
"Please, Amelia. She's really good. She will help you sort out your problems and everything with Liam."
My eyes close as I hear his name. "Mum, I can't just start going to therapy. I'm not that fucked up." I argue.
"But it will do you real good, honey. Trust me."
I sigh. "Fine, I will think about it."
"Alright, goodnight. I love you."
"I love you too." I enter the sitting room and end the call.
"You guys want to watch a movie?" I ask and they all turn their heads to me.
"Sure."
"Yeah."
"Why not?"
I call a maid and ask her to set up the movie room. Five minutes later she comes and tells me it's done then we all head there.
Tyler leaves after the movie and we take the elevator upstairs cause we're too tired to use the stairs.
****
The next morning, I get dressed in one of the guest rooms because the girls are sleeping in mine. Last night, they wrote down a list of the things they need for today and everything was brought for them around 7:00am.
I decide to go and see the therapist my mum booked. It's not easy for me but I don't want anyone worrying about me or my friends thinking I don't want to hang out with them.
On my way out, I tell Talia, a maid to ask the chef to prepare breakfast for my friends.
My driver, Tom is waiting for me outside with a black SUV. I enter the back seat and give him the address.
My arms are folded across my chest and I keep tapping my foot. I'm so fucking nervous.
The therapist's office is like twenty minutes away so I close my eyes to get some sleep.
****
"Amelia Black?"
"Yes." I nod.
The receptionist smiles. "Dr Sloan's office is the first door to your left." She motions at a direction.
I knock on the door and I'm asked to come in.
Dr Sloan is a medium height woman with short red hair. She has thin framed glasses over her sea blue eyes and has a welcoming smile on her face. "You must be, Amelia Black."
"Yes, it's nice to meet you." We shake hands.
"Have a seat, please."
I smile and take a seat, facing her.
She opens a folder and speaks, "Your mother said that two months ago, you went through a breakup and that has really changed your life. She said that you are now emotionally detached and you rarely hang out with your friends or family. Is that true?"
"Yes." I say in a small voice.
She closes the folder and brings her hands together on the desk. "I would like you to know that whatever we discuss is going to stay only between us. I would not tell anyone unless you ask me to do so."
"Okay." I nod.
"So I'm here to help you move on? To help you get over your ex-fiancé?"
"Yes."
She looks me into my eyes. "So here's the most important question, Do you want to move on?"
"Yes." I reply even though I'm not completely sure.

Needletongue, Carrotcake
The world isn't fair. If anything, the inherent injustice of the world is what separates it from the fiction we so adore. Luis Freighthold knew this all too well, and that was why it took a bit longer than it should have to realise when he suddenly had everything he could ever have wanted. Raised in a working-class single-father home, Luis had no other escape than fiction. Specifically, vampire stories of varying quality and genre. There was something appealing about the ability to fly, turn into shadows and become smoke. Danger. An unfamiliarity with the social world that rejected him so. Was it so wrong for him to hope for a different life? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, now he had it—a lust for blood and abilities beyond the understanding of civil man. Could you really say that he had anything left to complain about? A vampire story following an unconventional vampire boy forced to accept that maybe becoming a vampire doesn't magically solve all your problems. As a matter of fact, it might just make a whole bunch of them even worse. Regardless, Luis is prepared to try everything to live up to the vampire books he had previously gorged on. What did it matter that his vampire form had no teeth, replaced instead by a long, needle-tipped tongue? He was still a vampire, wasn't he? Chapters are around 10 A4 pages long, releasing once a week on Mondays, 01:00 CET.
