《Up In Smoke - Jax Teller》twenty four

Pregnant.
Fucking pregnant.
Jax's heart stops. "Okay." He can't just leave like he did with Wendy; she didn't want to see him anymore after she got knocked up.
His fiancé is pregnant.
The situation could be worse for sure.
Alex slips out from under Jax and heads outside, sitting on the front step with a cigarette between her fingers.
~
It's been a week since Alex dropped the news on Jax. He's been quiet around her but she's kind of fine with it. Currently, Alex is pouring drinks at the tavern off Hickory; the Squealing Pig. It's a busy place that has a lot of cowboys and blue collars flirting with her. Her boss, Terry, has her behind the bar tonight and she's preoccupied with the fetus growing inside her. She's spaced out as she mindlessly dries a glass. The door opens and she sighs when she sees another stranger.
She misses everyone. Sig and Marge, Ope and Donna, hell, even Clay and Gemma.
Maybe it's the hormones.
Maybe she's just homesick.
Alex's shift finally ends and she's on her way to the shop to see Jax.
~
"Where's Jackson?" Alex's asks the auburn haired woman behind the desk.
"Who's askin?" She asks with a raised pierced eyebrow.
"His fiancé." She spits back.
"Back there." She waves a hand to the door behind her.
Alex gives her a tight lipped smile as she lets herself into the garage. "Howdy ma'am. Can I help you?" A very handsome guy asks with the name Sam stitched into a white patch.
"Hey, I'm Alex, I'm lookin for Jackson."
Sam smiles a dimpled smile as he nods to the door behind him. "Out back, he's on his lunch break."
"Thanks." She slides to the door and looks out at the guys, rolling her eyes at some whistles she gets.
"Back off boys." Sam says, his hand on her shoulder. "She's lookin for Jax."
The blonde sits up at the mention of his name, a cigarette between his fingers. "Hey baby." He smiles, giving her a stinky, sweaty hug. "What're you doing here?" He takes her hand and pulls her to the front of the shop.
"Brought you some lunch." She hands him the paper bag and sighs.
"Thanks." He exhales a cloud of smoke. "What're you up to?"
"Just got off work." She sits on a nearby 50 gallon drum. "I'm missin you."
Jax sighs, pulling his fiancé against his chest. "Sorry. I'm still trying to, y'know, let the news sink in." He runs his hand through his long hair then smiles as he rubs her slight bump.
She sighs quietly. "You know I love you, right?"
"Of course I do, darlin." He says, cupping her cheeks.
"Jax! C'mon man, breaks over!" Someone shouts from the shop.
"Shit. I gotta go." Jax sighs giving her a soft kiss. "I'll see you at the house, alright?" She nods, getting to her feet. "Thanks for the grub baby." He says in a goofy Texas accent, winking as he heads back to the garage with the bag in hand.
Alex waves to him as she heads back to her truck then drives back to the house.
~
Alex sniffles as she hangs up after getting off the phone with Sig and Marge. She didn't tell them she's pregnant; it's still early. She picks the phone back up and calls Will. "What's up baby? I haven't talked to you in a while."
"I moved to Texas." She mumbles as she bites the skin around her thumb while she sinks down on the couch.

"What? When? Why?"
"We needed to get out of that lifestyle."
"We?"
"Jax and I." She finally admits.
"Oh. So y'all are together now?"
"Engaged actually."
"Wow." Will sighs. "Wow." His brain rolls through their times together and when they hooked up. "What part of Texas?"
"Vidor. Nine hours from Huntsville and thirty from Charming."
"Are you gonna come visit us again?"
"I don't know, hon." She sighs. "I miss everyone. Hey I gotta go." She says before hanging up on him, setting the phone into its wall holder as the front door opens. "Hey how was the rest of your shift?"
"Sam asked if we were related." Jackson chuckles. "He's interested in you."
"Better give him my number then." She winks at the mechanic.
Jax shakes his head and grabs her hand, pulling her to their bedroom. Alex smiles as she climbs under their light blue almost gray sheets, cuddling up next to her fiancé. "I miss everyone." She whispers, playing with his necklace.
"I do too." He admits, rubbing her back. "I do too."
~
Alex is now at the end of her last month of the pregnancy. She's so far past exhausted that she can't even sleep anymore. Jax has been putting in more overtime at the shop to help out when she's on leave. They've decided on a name and now they're just counting down the days until they meet their child.
Oh, no one in Charming knows about baby Miller-Teller yet, either.
The couple have a trip to California planned for a few months out depending on how things are going with the baby.
Alex feels a dull ache in her back but just passes it off ass her regular daily back pain while she's making dinner. She ignores another pang as she chops up an onion, using the knife against the cutting board to slide the diced vegetable into the skillet. There's another one that hits; it's stronger than the first two and it has her gripping the handle of the knife in her hand. She pounds her fist against the cutting board as she squeezes her eyes shut. She takes a deep breath then stirs the contents of the skillet. The door opens and Jax appears behind her. "Hey baby." He smiles, his hand on her back as he kisses her cheek.
"Hey." Jax squeezes her shoulders before heading to their bedroom to change out of his work clothes. "Fuck." She pants as another one hits. She whines, biting her lip hard as she grips the counter top. "Son of a bitch- fuck."
"You okay?"
"Yeah." Alex clears her throat. "I made some- fuck!" She drops the skillet onto the floor, tears in her eyes as another contraction rolls through.
Jackson immediately starts panicking. "You're having the kid- we gotta get you outta here."
She shakes her head as she relaxes against the counter, breathing hard. "No I'm fine."
"Drea, c'mon." He grabs her hand with her keys in his other. "We gotta go."
"No!" She shouts, shoving him away before she starts crying. "No, I- I- I can't. I can't do it."
"Hey." Jax pulls her close, using his thumbs to wipe her cheeks. "You can do it, okay?" She whimpers, nodding. "We're gonna have a baby so let's fuckin have it at the hospital, alright?" She nods again, taking a deep breath as another one hits. Alex grabs his wrist and latches on to it so tightly that he's positive her nails have drawn blood through his long sleeve t-shirt. Jax guides her to her truck and helps her in to the passenger seat. He runs back inside to grab the suitcase and pillow, turns the stove off then locks the door behind him.

He starts the truck up then they're on their way to welcome their child.
~
Six hours have passed and still no baby. Alex is totally physically exhausted while Jax is so uptight and nervous. He's pacing around the room, his hands running through his long hair. "Fuck." Alex breathes, gritting her teeth. Jax is quick to slide his hand into her fist, gasping when she squeezes it so hard that is has his fingers turning purple. "This fuckin kid- fuck."
He brushes her sweaty hair out of her face and sighs. "I love you."
"F-fuck off, Jax." She groans through another contraction. The door opens and her doctor walks in to check on her.
After a total of eight hours of waiting, they're finally able to see their child. Alex cries as she holds the infant against her chest, her IV poked hand over the tiny head. Jax forces back tears of his own as he looks at his fiancé holding their baby.
Jackson Teller is now a father.
He exhales deeply, wiping his face as he looks at the two. "How ya doin' dad?" A nurse asks as she wraps their child in a blanket. "Feelin' alright?"
"Beyond alright." He chuckles. "Is she okay?"
"She's exhausted and needs to get some rest. I'm gonna take your little one to the nursery for y'all to do that, okay?" She reaches down and gently picks up Baby Miller-Teller and then they're out the door.
"I'm so proud of you, Drea." Jax whispers, sliding himself into the small bed with her. "I love you so fucking much." She groans in response, drifting into a light sleep, Jax not too far behind.
~
"We gotta go out and visit everyone back home." Jackson says from the couch, his foot rocking his child to sleep. "I didn't tell anyone about him, did you?"
"No one." Alex yawns back, stubbing out her cigarette. "He's so cute." She runs her fingers across her son's cheek.
"When do you think he'll get some personality?"
"You callin him boring?"
"I mean, he just sits there like- like a lump."
They look down at their boy. "I see your point." She laughs, shaking her head. "I really want everyone to meet him."
"Then let's fuckin go home." Jax says, leaning back against the couch with his arm around his fiancé. "When do you want to go?"
"As soon as possible."
~
Alex takes a deep breath as she looks over her reflection in the bathroom. She's gained weight from her pregnancy and she doesn't like it one bit; Jax loves it. She tugs on the flannel she stole from her fiancé and huffs. "Fuckin cow." She mutters.
"I know you're not saying that to yourself. You're beautiful as hell." Jax says from the hotel bed. She stomps out to him and crosses her arms. "What?"
"You're full of shit, Jax! Look at me!"
"Oh I'm lookin." He bites his lip with a smirk, giving her a once over that has her blushing. "C'mon, we got a few hours left until we're home."
"He's handling this like a fuckin champ." Alex says, looking down at her sleeping son.
"He is my son." Jax shrugs earning a playful smack to the chest. "Let's get back on the road." Alex nods, gently picking up her boy while Jax gets their things. "You nervous to see everyone?"
"Kind of. You?"
"Yeah. I mean, I know we're gonna get bitched at for not being home in over a year." Jax says as he tosses the bags into the bed of her truck. "Can't wait for that." He rolls his eyes.
"Let's just hurry up and get there."
After three more hours, the small family has finally made it back to Charming. Jax moans as he stretches his legs, his body shaking. "Feels good to be done driving."
"My ass is asleep." Alex mumbles, her eyes heavy. "We're stayin' at your mothers?" She scowls as she looks over the house. She's been here twice before and both times ended in her being so pissed that she was in tears. "I bet she won't let me in there."
"Oh stop it, babe." Jax sighs, picking up their bags. "It'll be a nice surprise."
"She don't even know that we're here!? She's gonna be so fuckin pissed at us- at me! She'll make this my fault!"
"Hey, take a deep breath." He says, his hand on her shoulder. "It'll be fine, alright?" She just rolls her eyes as they step closer to the house. "It'll be fine." He uses his thumb to press on the doorbell.
"Jackson? What're you doing here!?" Gemma laughs, wrapping her son in a hug before turning her attention to the woman next to him. "Alexandrea." Her eyes shift to the infant in her arms. "Who's that?"
"Your grandson." Jax steps around her into the house, setting their bags on the floor. "We're here for the week and hoping we could stay here-"
"Absolutely, baby." Gemma grins, making her way to the kitchen. "You guys hungry or anything?"
"A beer sounds amazing right now." Jax smiles, sitting at the table. Alex awkwardly joins him, their child in her arms. "Make that two, Mom."
Gemma returns with a glass of wine and two Bud Lights. "Haven't see you guys in a while. What's new? Have any other kids I don't know about?"
"No, just the one." Alex says, handing Jax her beer to open for her. "You look gorgeous, Gem." It's an actual compliment. Gemma's hair has gotten longer and more gray; she can really rock the salt and pepper look.
"Flattery won't get you anywhere in this house, Alexandrea." Gemma wraps her lips around a cigarette, lighting it shortly. "But thank you. Motherhood looks good on you." Alex snorts quietly, adjusting her son. "What's this kids name?" As Alex opens her mouth, the front door opens. "Shit, I forgot we're having a family dinner tonight."
"Oh perfect! I miss everyone." Alex smiles, sneaking a smoke from the discarded pack in the middle of the table. Jax stands and gets the pack and play crib thing they brought for their boy and sets it up in his old cramped bedroom.
"Hey Gem. We brought a salad." Ope says from the kitchen, sighing as he shrugs his cut off.
"That's safe. It's kinda hard to fuck up a salad." Alex says from behind him.
"Y'know what-?" Ope freezes then turns slowly. "Holy shit." He grabs her in a pee squeezing hug, happy tears in his throat. "Holy fuck. When- H-how- What?" He grabs her shoulders and face to make sure he's not imagining this, making her giggle and smack his hands away.
"We just got here. Man, I missed you." Alex clears her throat, fanning her eyes as she blinks back tears. "Where's Donna?"
"Oh man, you didn't hear?" His tone gets serious.
"Wh-what? Is she okay?"
"Yeah, I'm just fucking with you. She's getting the kids outta the car."
"Kids?" Jax asks as he joins them. "How many?"
"Two. Ellie and Harry- well Kenny."
"When did y'all have Harry?"
"We found out she was pregnant like an hour after you guys left." Opie shakes his head with a small smile.
"Alex! Jax!" Donna says when she sees the couple with her boyfriend. "Oh my god!" She runs up to her best friend and hugs her, smiling. "It's been too long." The four laugh between themselves, the short brunette hands Kenny off to Piney and Ellie to Gemma.
"Come with us." Jax mutters to his best friend. The couple follows the other to Jax's old bedroom.
"Who the fuck is that?" Opie points at the sleeping infant and Donna hits him in the gut.
"This is our kid, Anthony." Alex smiles at her son.
"You birthed a whole ass human- woah."
"Donna did twice before I did, man." The blonde rolls her eyes.
"What else happened? Are you guys married too?"
"No actually, not yet." Jackson says.
"What're you guys waiting for?" Donna asks.
"Life, I guess." He shrugs. "Things are different now, y'know?"
"C'mon guys! Dinner's ready!" Gemma shouts down the hallway.
The four join the party and sit across from each other at the table. "Where's the prospect? Uh, Kip?" Alex asks, looking at the other guests. There's an awkward silence that follows her question.
"Kip. He- shit. He passed away a couple months ago." Clay says from the head of the table, patting his future daughter in law's hand before she pulls it away from him.
"What the hell? How?" Jax asks, looking at everyone.
"One of the Mayans got him." His step father answers. "He didn't suffer, Alex."
She nods and looks down at her plate. "Excuse me." She picks up her purse and heads outside for a smoke.
"Shit. Go ahead and eat guys." Jax stands and follows his fiancé outside. He says nothing as he sits next to her on the tailgate of her truck.
"I liked Kip." She mumbles. "He had nothing but kindness in his heart."
"I know, darlin." He whispers, kissing the side of her head. "I'm sure they honored him in the best fucking way possible, alright?" She nods and wipes her face. "Let's go back in." He squeezes her knee before hopping down, helping her to her feet.
After the meal, Alex finds herself actually having a pleasant conversation with Gemma, she doesn't feel angry, she doesn't feel like crying and she doesn't feel stupid.
She actually feels welcomed.
Gemma's telling her about the fundraiser she's putting together for the local schools' baseball team and how much fun it's going to be. Alex laughs as she dries the dishes the older woman is washing. Jax smiles from his spot on the couch next to his step father. Clay's been put on oxygen but it doesn't stop him from smoking his stogie. The couple spends the rest of their first night back catching up with Jax's parents. It's nice to have conversations with them that doesn't end in yelling or crying.
