《Going back ✔️》Chapter 27: Not again...

The next day I was feeling much better. It felt like an invisible bond had formed between Daimen and I. We were much closer than before.
"Morning Rainbow," Jax yawned and sat opposite me on the dining table, "what are you drinking?"
"Coffee," I replied, taking a sip of the concoction.
"Is it good?"
I shook my head, "tastes disgusting, but good at waking me up."
"Gimme," Jax sighed and rubbed his eyes. I passed him the cup and he drank a bit and made a face, "you're right, it's disgusting, but good for waking me up."
"Told you," I leaned back in the chair, "let's go to the hospital."
"M'kay," Jax said, "get changed and we'll leave in ten."
Ten minutes later, I met Jax by the door- feeling a lot more refreshed and awake.
"Guys I'm going to the hospital! Be back in a bit!" I shouted and I got a chorus of 'okay!' And 'be safe!' Back.
Jax and I drove there, singing along to the radio. Laughing hysterically, we went to the hospital. We entered and the doctors and nurses all greeted us.
"JAXTON COLLINS!" A powerful voice boomed behind and Jax paled.
"Help me," Jax whimpered.
"Sorry buddy," I shrugged my helplessness, "you're on your own."
Martha strode up to us. She winked at me and glared at Jax.
"Hi Martha," Jax squeaked, hiding behind me.
"Hello Jaxton," Martha smiled with fake sweetly, "I think you owe me an arm wrestle and a new pair of shoes... you know, my favourite ones which you threw up on?"
Jax winced, "I was drunk on eggnog! And that was years ago!"
"I told him not to drink it," I butted in, "but he didn't listen."

"Not helping," Jax glared.
"Come on," Martha grabbed Jax's ear and pulled him away, "let's talk."
I laughed and waved at Jax, who was stumbling in pain.
I walked to the children's ward. Doctors and nurses greeted me on the way.
"Hi Iris! How are you?" Dr. Green smiled.
"Hi Tina! I'm good. How are the kids?" I asked.
"They're good," Tina grinned, "Finn's started school!"
"Aw! I hope he's enjoying it!"
"He is," Tina beamed and she bid me goodbye and left.
I walked away with a smile on my face. Soon, I reached the children's playroom.
"Hi guys," I went in and smiled.
"Iriiissss!" They all squealed and engulfed me in a hug. Laughing, I bent down and embraced them all. They fired away questions at me, and I answered them as best as I could. There were about 10 kids there.
"Iris, can you sing us a song, please?" Daniel asked shyly.
"Of course!" I responded immediately, "which one?"
"'Tale as old as time' from 'Beauty and the Beast'!"Dina answered.
I began singing and, soon, the children joined in. They're so young, I thought sadly, looking down at their little faces shining with joy. The oldest was twelve and it reminded me how cruel fate could be.
After we finished singing, they chattered about their day and asked me about mine. Then, we watched a movie and it was time for me to go. They were reluctant to let me go, at first, but I promised to visit soon.
I decided to try and find Jax. As I was walking, a hand clamped over my mouth and I was dragged into a storeroom.
Not again...
Currently, Martha, me and some other doctors and nurses were chatting in the cafeteria. Just a few minutes ago, I lost in an arm wrestling competition to Martha. For the third time.

"I'm never drinking eggnog again," I groaned. My arm was aching like mad, "I make stupid decisions under its influence."
"You owe me a new pair of shoes," Martha pointed her finger at me, "I expect them next time you visit. They must be good otherwise I'll drop kick you to the other end of the world."
"You're kidding... I hope."
Martha just smiled.
We made small talk and some medical staff asked me about how my life was going. It'd been a while since I last visited. My heart was thudding painfully as I thought about four years ago.
Suddenly, the door burst open and Iris stumbled in. Her eyes were frantic and she was panting heavily.
"Rainbow, is everything okay?" I asked, walking over to her. She gripped my arms tightly and took a few deep breaths to compose herself.
"Jax," she sobbed, "there's-"

He dreams of glory on the southern front against the Gravanik States. He will not be finding it. Instead, if the glory he expects. Far to the north, lies the unassumingly named North-Eastern Extreme Frontier Tower, a backwater post if ever there were one. Through the machinations of the Emperor’s state religion, and a cult within it, Cadryn will find himself on his way to this first assignment. On the frontier, Cadryn will discover that neither his campions, nor the Neeft itself, are what he expects. Follow Cadryn on his journey to discover many truths: about himself, about the Empire, and about the very world he call home. ****** Keepers of the Neeft is a (bit dark) fantasy story revolving around Cadryn and his journey of discovery. There’s a fairly wide cast of supporting characters (his fellow Keepers) all with their own reasons and motivations behind how they came to be at the Neeft. Current release plan is to have part 2 completed, then fully edit up till the end of part 2. I am in the process of editing the earlier content as I complete the updates/re-writes. Apologies for any rough content in the meantime. My primary objective with Keepers of the Neeft is to work on developing content flow and establishing a community of people who enjoy my writing style. I write SF/F and horror as my primary genres, Keepers is actually my 3rd novel length work, but my current project. Updates of new Content will currently be in the form of one larger post on Tuesdays.
