The waiter finally notices me raising my hand and comes over so he can take my order.

"Can I get the Eggs Benedict, the classic waffles with strawberries and two blueberry muffins."

"Okay ma'am, your food will be ready in fifteen to twenty minutes"

The waiter walks away and she finds her cousin and best friend staring at her like she did something wrong

"Did you miss dinner last night?" Jasmine starts

"No, why are you asking?"

"You ordered more food than you usually do"

"Thembisa are you pregnant?" Her cousin finally asks

"You've gained weight and I know a lot of people usually gain that happy weight when they are in a great space but this is definitely pregnancy weight"

"I agree" Jasmine chimes in before taking a sip of her juice

"I don't think I'm pregnant, I think it's the weight I gained from stress eating"

"That could be a reason but I strongly think it's pregnancy. Have you been using protection because I know you aren't keen on birth control?"

"Me relying on my man is how I ended up pregnant so you might be pregnant" Jasmine adds

"When was the last time you got your period?" Chi asks and Thembi takes a moment to ponder on that question because it has been a while since she saw it

"I didn't even think about the possibility of me being pregnant"

"You've been super busy so it's possible for you to have missed the changes that have been occurring in your body" Jasmine adds

"Yeah, Kofi is going to be ecstatic if I am pregnant"

"You don't sound too excited. What's up?"

"It's not that I wouldn't be thrilled to have a baby because I have been dreaming of having babies for a long time it's just that I don't know if this is the right time. I am overwhelmed with the responsibilities I have at the store plus the responsibilities I have as a wife"

"That's how I felt when I found out I was pregnant with Alaïa but those fears dissipated once I realized that I had a great partner on my side to help me out" Chi reassures her cousin

"Don't stress your self out mama, you will cross that bridge when you get to it. What you should be thinking about now is taking a pregnancy test and if it does come out positive then you'll plan from there on" Jasmine reassures her and she simply smiles

Thembi has always been a planner and the possibility of her being pregnant made her a little uneasy because in her mind all her plans would have to change drastically. She hadn't thought about the fact that she has an amazing husband that will be by her side the entire pregnancy and help her through everything.

"Well, cheers to Thembi joining the baby mama crew" Jasmine says as they raise their glasses to toast

"I haven't even taken the test yet"

"Don't ruin the moment" Jasmine replies before they toast

Brunch seems to drag on but that's because she is anxious about taking the test. She walks into the grocery store and locates the pregnancy tests where she spends five minutes looking for the best brand. She ends up grabbing three regular tests and a digital one before checking out and heading home.

The smell of the lavender cleaner greets her when she steps into the apartment and she already knows that some deep cleaning was done. The floor is spotless and shiny, the kitchen doesn't have a single dish laying around and their bedroom is tidy. She calls for her husband but the silence lets her know that she is all alone and has to wait because she wants Kofi to be part of this moment. "I don't know. I missed a period plus I have been eating a lot more lately so I could be"

"You should take the test then"

"I'm scared that it'll be negative and I don't want you to be disappointed"

"I'll be okay with whatever the tests say. If the tests are negative then maybe it isn't our time and we shouldn't be too worried about it"

Thembi steps into the bathroom and reads the instructions on the box before taking the tests out. She pees on the sticks and sets them on a paper towel before setting a timer for five minutes. She puts the lid on the toilet down and sits on it with her right leg bouncing up and down. When the timer finally goes off, she feels like she has been waiting for at least twenty minutes. Feeling too uneasy to look at the results, her husband does the honors and by the look on his face she knows they are negative.

"They are all negative huh?" Her voice is filled with disappointment as she asks
