《COTE: YEAR 2 REACTION》Chapter 2: Overall Ability

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. That was my thoughts being broadcasted.
My monotonous voice was received with surprised looks from everyone. My classmates, recognizing it, turned towards me looking for an answer. The video was currently displaying an overview of the school with my voice being the narration.
"Who's that?" "I can't recognise that voice." "What class is he from?" Was the general reception from the second and third years.
From the corner of my eye, I noticed Sakayanagi looked at me with worry. Ichinose was no different. Even though her spirits were shattered after the loss to class-C in the event selection exam, she was still motivated enough to lead her class.
Ryuen seemed to be in good spirits, cackling wildly at my levity. Kouenji on the other hand... was admiring himself with his hand mirror ignorant of the current situation.
"It seems you have unfortunate luck, Ayanokouji-kun." Horikita said.
"Yeah. That seems to be the case." I sighed deeply.
How troublesome. I'm a lab rat for another experiment, this time by the government itself. How ironic. I couldn't even make plans or prepare for any scenarios since it was the future. As it was my perspective and with my thoughts openly displayed, the white room would likely be exposed. There were truly no contingencies for such a case.
"Ayanokouji-kun." I looked at the origin of the voice. It was Horikita. "I just want to tell you this. Just in case something comes up, I want you to rely on me for any help. I'll do my best."
"Thanks Horikita."
"Will you be okay?" Kei, who was seated to my left, asked in a whisper.
"I've got no idea what'll be shown in these videos. But, don't worry about me, I'll be fine."
"It's really like a movie." Sotomura said.
"So this takes place on April 1st then..." Mori Nene spoke up.
"Chabashira-sensei, can you confirm whether this information is true?" Yousuke queried.
"Yes, it's true Hirata."
"Ayanokouji-kun is surprisingly a good narrator." Azuma Sana said.
"Ahh, that's awesome. Am going to be a senpai! I can't wait to be called Ike-senpai or ... Kanji-senpai." Ike was lost in his own fantasies.
Shinohara smacked him on the back of the head. "Get your head out of the gutter."
I recalled the time when Ike and Shinohara were openly flirting in front of Hiyori and I in the library. Even my classmates, aware of this development, started making bets on who will confess first.

Shocked and bewildered described the looks worn by everyone. Kei was probably the most surprised. I planned to confess to her during the end of spring having already noticed her feelings for me. The stalking and interrupting during my date with Satou was more than enough for me to make a few guesses.
"Ayanokouji, you bastard!!! How did you get a girlfriend before me?" Ike shouted.
"Wait, wait, Kei?! Isn't that Karuizawa's first name? Ahhhh! No, no, no,no!" Sudou shook his head multiple times. Since he was sitting right behind me, he grabbed my shoulders. "She was dating Hirata and before... who knows what kind of flashy relationships she had in junior high. Aren't you uncomfortable with that? She is too high of a bar for a girlfriend."
The image Kei had built up in the last one year was a headstrong person who never hesitated to speak her mind. Well, I too, had the same perception of her until I learnt about her past.
"You're joking, what? Is this true? Hu-Huh? Karuizawa-san, seriously?" Shinohara, alarmed at the aspect of Kei dating me.
"Kei-chan?! You two have never even spoken to each other. How did that happen?" Matsushita asked as she thought, 'I pretended to be shocked but deep down I already had suspicions that she had a crush on Ayanokouji-kun.'
Satou, who was aware of Kei's feelings, kept quiet.
"A-Ahh umm, We were in the same group during the zodiac exam. After that we talked here and there..."
"Ayanokouji and Karuizawa?! No matter how many times I think about it, I can't wrap my head around it." Sudou laminated.
"I can't believe it." Haruka muttered. Both her and Airi were too stunned to speak.
Inogashira whispered. "Could it be that Karuizawa-san's breakup with Hirata is related to this."
Ichihashi said. "From dating Hirata-kun to Ayanokouji-kun? This- sorry I can't really understand it."
Keisei narrowed his eyes upon Kei's statement. He was probably trying to recall any interaction we had on the ship.
Akito sent a subtle thumbs up, congratulating me.
"Now that you think about it... Ayanokouji's name has been popping up recently..."
Shinohara couldn't help but raise such a question.
"Yeah, like when he was the commanding leader in the finals or when Sakayanagi-san gave him a protection point." Mori summarised.
"Couldn't it have been Sakayanagi-san chose him so that he'd end up being sacrificed when an exam like the finals with expulsion on the line came around. That seems like a clever strategy." Matsushita said.

"Ahhh, so that's the case.." Shinohara nodded.
No, that didn't make any sense. If Sakayanagi truly thought that, she could have used someone like Ike. Or... I am at the same level if not worse than Ike according to Matsushita and Shinohara.
"It seems that you've been quite busy, Nagumo."
"Thank you, Horikita-senpai. I'm glad you can witness my tenure as the new Student council president." He grinned at the hidden praise.
"I'm happy that the school is now more accommodating to foreign students, right Albert-san?" Hiyori smiled.
"YES!"
"I'm surprised it took the government this long to do this." Ishizaki vocalised with his mouth filled with popcorn. Hmm, when did he have the time to go buy that?
Kaneda adjusted his spectacles. "The importance of these changes would depend greatly on whether the students needed them to integrate into society after graduation."
"Frame of reference...? What did he mean by that?" Kanzaki mused.
"Heh!" Sudou raised his arms and fixed them behind his head with a beaming smile. "My grades are much better now. All thanks to Suzune." The girl in question was ignorant of Sudou's praise.
"Ken, there's plenty of fish in the pond." Ike patted him in the shoulder.
"Huh? What's that supposed to mean?"
"It seems you're a very laid back person, Ayanokouji." Katsuragi commented.
"Thank you, Katsuragi."
"Oh god! Already?" Ike sighed with irritation. The other first years felt similar to him.
"I like how serious your homeroom teacher is." Himeno said.
Hondou scoffed. "C'mon, you wouldn't want her. The most unmotivated teacher at this school is Chabashira-sensei. We'd gladly exchange her for Hoshinomiya-sensei." I instinctively shivered at that thought.
Yeah. No thanks.
"Are you kidding me, man?" Shibata screamed. "Do you know the number of times Hoshinomiya-sensei came into class drunk?"
Hondou shook his head in response.
"Yeah, me neither." Shibata screamed even louder.
It turned into a back and forth between class-B and class-D until Hoshinomiya-sensei interrupted.
"Calm down everyone." She said with a beaming smile. "Oh Sou-kun, do you not like me?" She clenched her chest and had a downcast look. "Have you forgotten all the times I've pampered you. How rude~"
Chabashira-sensei simply smacked Hoshinomiya-sensei's head with her clipboard.
"Ouch! What was that for Sae-chan~"
Hmm, the parallels between these two and Horikita and Kushida are uncanny. Even the hairstyle was the same.
"Overall ability...? What's that?" Asked a second year student.
"Why're you so impatient? I'm sure the video is going to explain everything soon enough." Nagumo said.
"Oh right, sorry!" He scratched his head in embarrassment after being addressed by the Student council president.
The live-action video was currently playing a step-by-step walkthrough on how to install the OAA app.
"How fancy!" Sotomura muttered.
The installation process of the app was fairly intuitive. Since everyone these days were experienced with smartphones and technology, the process overall progressed without a hitch.
Everyone was intently watching the scene with curiosity.
"Those stats!? They look like a video game! Awesome!!!" Ike excitedly said.
This system is truly embracing a meritocratic nature Nagumo-senpai wished for. With an application such as the OAA, individual skills will matter more than ever. There was no were to hide if you had a weakness.
The reason why he wasn't very active last year must've been because he was busy pouring his time and resources into making this app. This also would give an incentive for people to improve oneself now that their stats were displayed in numbers. It allows them to not only compete with themselves but also with others.
"Why is Ayanokouji's score in physical ability a C+. Didn't he go neck-to-neck against the former student council president?" Hashimoto speculated.
"True, but the OAA app works on the basis of performance gauged over the various tests conducted throughout the year. Not only the sports festival and winter exam evaluations, but your weekly swimming classes and sports classes count as well. One extraordinary score doesn't amount to a higher OAA score." Nagumo postulated.
Hashimoto chuckled. "I see, thanks for enlightening me, Nagumo-senpai."
"Simply put, it's just stats. Cool." Nishino said nonchalantly.
Mashima-sensei, paused using his remote, for all the students to take their time to read the descriptions of each category. The academic and physical ability was rather straightforward. Adaptability is mainly about our communication skills and how flexible we're to any social situation.
The OAA app is emphasising heavily on all rounded people. Having single tracked and talented individuals like Sudou and Yukimura would end up having lower overall scores.

Shrike
He wants to play the latest and greatest VRMMORPG game, but he can't muster up the cash for the fancy new proprietary hardware and membership license. After months of saving up cash and arduous work, he has built a behemoth of a machine relying almost entirely on seedy old technology and a DIY guide by some dude named "Jimmy Bob." This is the story of his entry into the game. This is also a story of intrigue, exploration, introspection, batshit crazy game design, and unintended but entirely predictable consequences. This is G.C.O. Undergoing a total re-write, mostly because I think things were too rushed rather than any content or direction changes. If you are one of the few who tried Shrike when it was briefly updating, consider giving it another shot. Of no relation to either The Great Crusade or the recent (in 2017 lol) Shrike book for Warhammer by Games Workshop. All similarities in these cases are superficial; please don't sue me. Feedback welcome and encouraged, never be afraid to review or comment. HQ/Kindle-Grade cover art. Book Cover 2.0: "From the Dark"

The Animo Saga
Before history was well-recorded in the world of Ulakam, primordial animal spirits adopted humans, provided protection and developed deep spiritual connections with them. Millennia later, humans now host animal spirits and are split into tribes named for the species they host. Ulakam is slowly being consumed by a decades-long war pitting the main tribes against the smaller tribes and a group of bandits calling themselves "the resistance". Callida Animo was born into this world. Coming from a mixed family of generational soldiers, Callida joined the family business at a young age. In her words, she was practically bred, born, and raised to be a soldier. And she's good at what she does... which inevitably attracts attention that makes her unambitious self extremely uncomfortable. Love, loss, influence and growth. This is her story. Written episodically, this story focuses on relationships and character growth through a series of mini-arcs that connect to make a greater whole. (Honestly, the story would lend itself well to a TV series.) "Episodes" range from 3-7 chapters (at least so far), and average about 4 or 5 chapters. Author's note: I'm always thrilled to receive comments, follows, ratings/reviews, messages.... All forms of feedback are welcome and encouraged. However, I have no interest in begging readers for more engagement to get better visibility. I tried that with my last story and found the game soul-sucking. So! This constitutes my only self-promotion request. If you are reading this story, let me know what you think! I love engaging with my readers. We'll see if growing the readership organically is even possible. Thank you! 😘 Release schedule: Weekly on Wednesday afternoons
