《Soaring High - Discontinued》Chapter 2

Persephone Jackson stepped into the shower, feeling the hot water run down her body. She didn't really need to take a shower because she could clean herself with the water molecules in the air, but the warm temperature and the steam soothed her.
When the second giant war ended, the 7 had stuck around to rebuild, mourn, and get the camps going again. After that, they had all split up to go and do their own thing, finding different ways to grieve their own losses. They had lost Nico and Hazel in the war, and Percy felt responsible. She had watched her family, her baby brother, and sister, die. Percy felt as if she had failed them. Ever since she lost her cousin, Bianca, she promised to never let harm come to another one of her family members and now she had lost two. The fact that they were all children of Hades/Pluto did not help either.
Jason and Piper left to go live with Piper's dad. Leo and Calypso set up a repair shop, somewhere in Gotham City. Reyna and Frank buried themselves in work at Camp Jupiter to keep their minds off of Hazel and Nico. Annabeth stayed at Camp Half-Blood to be a leader to the demigods. And Percy moved to Bludhaven where she decided to become a superhero/vigilante so she could help people. She thought maybe it could make up for the lives she felt responsible for in the giant war. She quickly learned that that wasn't the case. She could never make up for them, but she could keep saving people, to make the world a better place. So she did. She didn't use her powers, though, keeping them a secret until an absolute emergency.
And just last night, she had met the resident hero, Nightwing. For some reason, she couldn't get him out of her mind. She had absolutely no idea what it was, but she always found her thoughts drifting in his direction. The descriptions did not do him justice. Even though she hadn't seen him in action, she did see how he jumped down in front of her, like a cat. He didn't make a sound, not even when he hit the ground. Each of his movements was fluid and graceful like he made no mistakes and knew exactly what he was doing. And the tight spandex that covered his--Absolutely not. Percy shut down those thoughts before they even had to chance to come out. She then got out of the shower and headed off to work, pushing Nightwing to the farthest corners of her mind.

Dick started to put on his police uniform, sliding the shirt over his arms and buttoning it up slowly. He had joined the Bludhaven Police Department so he could fight corruption on both sides, as Nightwing and as part of the law. He enjoyed the occupation as it allowed him to save people both day and night.
And last night, Dick had met a new hero/vigilante for the first time. Seabird. He had so many questions and absolutely no answers. Who was she? Where did she come from? Why was she doing this? Could he trust her? Dick sighed. Ever since he helped Seabird take the thugs down to the police department, he couldn't stop thinking about her. How she comforted the little girl, handing her her cape and smiling and she wrapped it around her. How she fought like it came naturally to her, like she could do it in her sleep. She was definitely well trained and he could tell she was holding back. And when she stepped into the light, he could clearly see how the spandex fit tightly over --
Dick practically stabbed his badge into his chest to break his train of thought. He definitely did not need that. He stepped out of his apartment, getting into his car, but could not shake the excitement he felt at the prospect of maybe seeing Seabird again in the night.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He found her at that same rooftop he saw her from the night before. She was standing there looking over at the vast expanse of buildings that extended for miles, her cape slightly blowing in the wind.
Percy was standing at the edge of the rooftop, her hands clenched inside her cape. Every time she looked at this city, she was reminded of Nico and Hazel. She thought moving here would comfort her and while it did, it also brought back good memories that made her miss them more.
She sensed Nightwing approaching her and instantly relaxed her body. She turned around with a smirk firmly in place.

"Couldn't stay away?" she teased him.
Nightwing stared at the girl in front of him.
No.
"I'm a curious person," he replied, shrugging.
Seabird snorted, dropping the joke.
"Do you want to patrol together?" she asked, hoping he'd say yes.
Nightwing hesitated. He definitely did want to, but it had been so long since he worked with someone else. He didn't know if he wanted to be part of a dynamic duo again. But then again, his relationship with Batman had been mentor and protege and this would be more like partners.
"Why not?" he grinned.
Seabird returned it. "Can you jump buildings?" she asked.
"In my sleep," he replied.
The pair of them raced across rooftops, having fun and scouting for crime at the same time, Nightwing showing off his acrobat skills just the tiniest bit. After taking care of a couple robberies and muggings, the two of them hung out on the same rooftop they met on.
"Those are some serious skills," she commented, impressed.
Nightwing mentally grinned but simply shrugged on the outside.
"Really, where did you learn how to do those flips?"
Nightwing smirked. "That's a secret."
Seabird pouted. "Sometimes I hate secret identities."
He could not agree more. "Where did you learn how to fight? I've never seen that style of fighting before."
Seabird shook her head. "Can't tell you that. Secret identity remember?"
Nightwing expressed his amusement by exhaling through his nose.
"So is this going to be a regular thing?" she asked, serious this time.
"This was fun but," Nightwing paused, " I don't know if I want to be part of a full-time--"
"No worries, I get it," Seabird cut it, to his relief. He didn't have any idea where he was going with that thought. "You like to work alone."
Nightwing didn't really know how to feel. It wasn't like he liked to work alone, he was just used to it. But he didn't say anything.
Seabird pulled something out of her own utility belt. It was two small, black devices which he recognized as communicators of some kind.
"Here, take this. If you're ever in serious trouble, press it. It'll tell me where you are," she explained, handing it to him, "Don't worry, it's not a GPS or anything."
Nightwing took the device, turning it over in his hands and inspecting it.
"I have one, too," she said, showing him the other one, "Just in case. You don't have to use it, but if you want..."
He knew he should be slightly suspicious, but gratitude bubbled in his chest.
"Thanks," he replied, tucking it into his belt.
Seabird smiled at him. "See you 'round."
With that, she jumped off the building, giving Nightwing a shock before he saw her swinging on a grappling hook. When she was out of sight, Nightwing took out the device, looking at it more carefully.
He wanted to trust her, but he took it apart on the roof, searching for bugs or trackers. He was relieved and slightly guilty when he found none. He put it back together again, putting it in a safe place, but not in his belt in case it was taken away.
"See you," he called out into the darkness, already kind of missing her presence.
AN. Pretty please comment! I'd really appreciate it.
PS Did you know that Nightwing is actually voted the sexiest comic book hero by many many people?
