《Seeing Double》86

"Alright girls." I say with a smile. "I know our kids are cute, but we have training to get to."
"But Astrid." Mal groans as she feeds Ingrid a bottle.
"No But's Mal Pal." I say with a playful scowl.
"Mal they just got done eating so their gonna sleep for a while." Tobin says.
"Fine." Mal grumbles.
Mal hands me my daughter back so I put her back in her carrier then take them over to the people who are gonna watch them.
"Thank you guys again." I say.
"No problem." Leila, one of the Team media people, says.
I hand the girls diaper bags to the ladies then head back over to the team and stand with them as they stretch.
"So are there godparents?" Abby asks.
"We couldn't decide." I admit. "We had around 8 people for each baby so we just decided not to have any."
"Who were they?" Kelley asks.
"For Ingrid it was You, Hope, Erin, Jerry, Ash, Ali, Alyssa, and Amy then for Kasey it was Katie, Perry, Jeffery, Alex, Christen, Mal, Lindsey, and Lauren."
"Wow."
"How much you wanna bet Kelley goes overboard in purchasing the twins stuff?" Alex questions.
"Oh I've already started looking at things to get them." My twin says.
"Uh Oh." I say causing everyone to laugh.
"Kelley's definitely going to be the fun aunt." Mal says.
"You're damn right I am."

"Come on you two." I say and pick up Ingrid and Kasey. "Mommy's waiting."
I carry my daughters out of the locker room, into the tunnel, then we walk onto the field as the team are about to start their warm ups.

Today we're playing Switzerland in Charlotte in our first of the two April friendlies ahead of the World Cup.
Don't worry I'm not that stupid. I put ear muffs on their ears so were good. They'll also be staying in the locker room with some of the staff who volunteered to watch them.
"There's my favorite girls." Tobin cutely says and tickles our daughter's stomach's causing them to smile. "Mommy loves you two so much."
Tobin then leans down and Kisses Ingrid's cheek then she kisses Kasey's cheek.
I have a feeling Tobin may do this before every game now just like she continues to jump the line.
"Have fun warming up." I say with a smile.
"Will do coach." Tobin says with a smile.
One of the things I hate about being the coach is that Tobin and I can't show any PDA on the field.
Tobin runs off to join her teammates so I bounce our daughters up and down for a while till they fall asleep then I take them into the locker room and hand them off to the people who are watching them. I thank the two ladies then I head back towards the pitch.
"Astrid you have time for a couple of questions?" Alex Curry asks.
"Of course." I say.
The two of us chat about today's game then we get to the questions I knew would come.
"So how's motherhood treating you?" Alex Curry asks.
"It's great." I say with a smile. "Luckily for my wife and I the twins sleep through the night so we haven't lost any sleep yet."
"And how are the team reacting to the newest additions to the Heath family?"
"Well we now have 22 babysitters." I say then we both laugh. "But they seem to love our girls and that's all we can ask for."

"Thank you Astrid."
"Any time."
Our interview stops right as the team come back into the tunnel so I wait for them to change then I do my last minute team talk. After that's done the girls do their last minute preparations then everyone heads to where they need to be and a few moments later the starters come onto the pitch. Once the starters are on the pitch I stand around as the anthems are played then, as the rest of the pre-match is happening, I walk over to the Swiss coach and shake her hand.
After all the pre-match pleasantries are finished I head back to my seat and get ready for the match.
"So what all do you wanna talk about Astrid?" Ali says and nudges me.
"Huh?" I question and look at my Assistant coach.
"It's almost halftime Astrid." Ali says causing me to look at the scoreboard and see we are indeed coming up to halftime.
A few seconds later the whistle blows for halftime causing me to shoot off the bench and quickly make my way to the locker room.
"Not again."
- - - - -
"TOBIN." Someone yells causing me to look up as I jog off the field.
When I look up I see Ali and Ash frantically waving me over so I start sprinting.
"What?" I question.
"Something's wrong with Astrid."
"Where?" I question causing Ash to point into the tunnel.
I sprint into the tunnel and head to the locker room, but my wife's not there so I head to the coach's office which is where I find my Red-head
"Astrid." I softly say as I creep towards my shaking wife. "Baby it's me."
When I get to my wife I sit down on the floor next to her and hold her hands.
"N-N-N-No m-m-m-medicine." Astrid stutters.
"Okay." I whisper. "Will you be okay if I go get something and come right back?"
"Y-Y-Y-Yeah."
I smile at my wife then get off the floor and leave the room. Once outside the office I shut the door then come face to face with the team.
"Do not under any circumstance go in that room." I say and point to the office.
I then look at Ali.
"Your going to need to sub me out and coach the rest of the game." I say then look back at the team. "Astrid's fine, but everyone needs to give her space. Do not bring what just happened up to her or to anyone. Astrid will talk when she's ready, but give her space...Understood?"
Everyone nods so I head to my bag, grab my noise cancelling headphones and my phone, then I grab our kids before I return to the office . Once in the office I lock the door then turn the headphones on and pair them to my phone while approaching my wife.
"M-M-M-Make i-i-i-it s-s-s-stop T-T-T-Toby." Astrid stutters as I sit down next to her.
"Just breathe beautiful." I whisper then put the headphones on my wife.
Once the headphones are on I play Astrid's calming playlist before I lay our daughters in my lap then I watch as my wife's eyes close and she finally starts breathing right.
I knew we should've gone to the doctors before we left.

The Draw Of The Unknown
Mia Campbell is your average introverted loner. Not exactly satisfied with her life doing pretty much nothing of import, she's also not that willing to break out and make a change. Until, without any preamble or warning, she is bestowed with a cryptic system that both grants her magical powers, and also operates on the logic of a card game. Things begin to escalate from there. **This project is a bit of an experiment! For any given chapter, Mia's 'decklist' will be built by the community, over on our Discord server. If you find this amusing, and want to participate in the discussion, as well as find the complete list of cards, you will be able to find the link to the Discord server at the end of each chapter. Discussion in the comments is also encouraged and included as well. Each chapter and/or scenario will be intentional, but the cards used will be chosen by you guys. And the draws made will be done via actual drawing of cards during the writing process, for bonus author street cred.**
