My name is Maddy Merrill, and this is the story of how I got raped. The most traumatic event that happened to me happened on December 21, 2020. I was 17 years old, and someone 11 years older than me with a wife and children got me drugged and raped me.

After it happened, everyone I told about it told me to keep it a secret. People told me not to tell anyone because it would affect my work environment. I understood that, but at the same time, I was still a child and needed all the help from others I could get.

My advice for anyone that may be struggling with something like this; please speak up. Nobody should tell you what to do in that situation.

When something like sexual assault happens to you, you feel hopeless. You feel like you don't have a voice and are out of your control. Tell someone you trust or get therapy. My therapist helped me so much through this. I am still having such a hard time but having people in your corner is so important.
