water based is pretty versatile, and can be used with latex and non latex condoms, as well as silicone toys.

silicone based is better for sensitive skin, since it's hypoallergenic, and lasts longer. it's also good in water for those shower sex scenes, as it normally washes everything else away. thing is, it fucks up the surface of silicone toys, and create places for bacteria in them so . they're chill with condoms, though.

oil based lasts even longer, but does wash away in water easier. can't be used with latex condoms, though and it stains, so, it kinda sucks.

you can also use stuff like coconut oil, and other natural lubricants, but once again, at least with oils, it'll fuck with latex. lot easier to find, though, and doesn't look as "suspicious", even though there's nothing to be embarrassed about.

condoms come with some lube on them, but usually you'll wanna add more for anal.
