"I love you."
Darryl pulled the smaller boy off of him and looked him in the eyes.
"You love me?"
Zak froze, just sitting and staring at Darryl. He wasn't sure how to respond.
"Yeah....."
Darryl didn't know what to say. A jumble of thoughts raced through his head while he was searching for something to say. Zak doesn't love him, does he? He couldn't. He just told people the exact opposite of that.
"No you don't, Zak. Stop that."
Zak stared blankly at Darryl. He felt a pit form in his stomach and a knot form in his heart.
"B-but I do. I swear I do."
"If you do why'd you say those things about me?"
Zak could almost feel his heart tear.
"I... I just didn't want to be made fun of.."
"Oh."
Wrong thing to say Zak.
"Well, if you're too embarrassed to publicly be my friend, don't be my friend."
Silence.
"N-no pleas- I.. You don't.. You don't understan- I didn't..."
"I'm done talking about it. I want you to be safe so you can stay here for the time being. You already know where the guest room is, so you can sleep there. I'm gonna go take a nap."
And with that, he walked away. Leaving Zak, alone, upset, and confused. Zak didn't know what to do or how to feel. He knew that Darryl for sure hated him this time.

"C-can I come in..?"
"Go ahead, Zak."
The smaller boy quietly entered the room while shutting the door behind him. Once he closed the door he came and sat on the bed next to where Darryl was laying.
"I want to make it up to you..."
He said with a low, sad voice. He wanted Darryl to forgive him, but he didn't know what to do.

"Zak, it's fine."
"No I'll... I'll tell them all that I love you!"
Darryl's face lightly flushed a shade of pink upon hearing that. He didn't necessarily want that from Zak, but he would've also loved it.
"You don't have to do that, okay? Just please don't say those things about me."
"I still want to make it up to you though..."
"And how do you plan on doing that?"
Then Zak got an idea, a rather risky idea.

"Let them go, Dante." I whip my head to see a small boy standing the clearing with blonde hair and a green cloak hanging from shoulders. He isn't very tall however he holds his stance well. He doesn't seem to be more than Cassandra's age. Maybe 12 at most. I abruptly turn my head back hearing the man holding a sword to my throat chuckling with a sinister grin. "Oh, poor boy, what are you go to do about it?" The yellow teeth gleam as he begins stalking towards the boy who does not look the least bit fazed. I look around at the other men who are following the leader. I pull Cassandra tighter to my back as I take small steps back. I keep my eye trained on the men but also fear for the naive boy. "Do you really want to test me Dante?" He asks raising a single eyebrow. For a minute the men stop their movements. I see their hesitation for fear... Fear of what? I take the moment to stick Cassandra behind a nearby tree. She crouches down while I pull my sword out from its place. "How do you know my name?" The scoundrel raises his sword challenging towards the boy before taking a final step towards him. Then the unexpected happens. The young boy chuckles so darkly. It sounded almost... demonic. All the men instinctively raise their swords. "Oh Dante, I didn't know your name... but you know someone dear to me." "Spit it out boy!" The once grinning man is now looking around frantically. I continue my eyes scanning the small boy. He looks directly me and gives me a small nod before saying one word that caused all hell to breaks loose. "Artemis." Artemis is not an ordinary girl. She grew up in the wilderness after being shunned due to unique abilities and her different physical attributes.
