From where I emerged from between the stalls, I could see that Emily, Kurt and the others had returned to our meeting point and were sharing some food and cider. i made my way over to them, waving in greeting as Kurt looked up and caught my eye.
"You took your time!" Emily rebuked me, frowning over her paper plate of nachos.
"Sorry," I apologised. "You know me, always getting myself into trouble." I made to sit down on the grass beside them and just as I started to lower myself down I heard someone calling my name. I straightened up and turned around, to see Jack hurrying towards me. When he reached me he held out a small black plastic package.
"Your friend said you left this behind, and asked me to bring it to you. I guess it fell out of your bag when you fell?" I took it from him, not recognising it but aware of the fact that the "friend" he was talking about was Richard.
"Thanks Jack, I appreciate you bringing me this." I smiled up at him, as Emily rose from her seated position and demanded; "You fell? Again? Honestly woman we cant take you anywhere!"
"It's fine, we got her patched up and good as new again." Jack put his arm around me and rubbed my shoulder, just long enough for it to be a little bit awkward. "I better get back." He said regretfully. "Here, take my number and give me a text if you want to hang out before Download ends." He suggested, pulling out a Sharpie and writing his number on a scrap of paper before handing it to me.
"Sure." I smiled at him, unsure of a response to make.
"Great. Well, see you!" He waved and turned to walk back the way he came from.
"That guy," Emily said between chews, "was hot." She swallowed her mouthful of food. "You better text him before Sunday night!" She warned, waving her plastic fork at me vaguely threateningly. Her attention shifted to the small package I now held in my hands. "Open it, then!" She commanded. I turned so that my body was blocking the view of whatever was inside from the rest of the group. Not that they were particularly interested, Kurt had turned back to his food long ago and the rest of them were much more interested in the food and drink in front of them.

I struggled a little with the sellotape, succeeding in tearing the package open before Emily's impatience caused her to take it from me and do it herself. Opening it carefully, it revealed a handful of lanyards, neatly wrapped up together. Scrawled on a note on top of them was a note which read: Enjoy the show tonight from a place where you won't injure yourself further. Bring friends, and enjoy a drink with us afterwards. R.
I boggled at the note, recognising the 'R' from the countless times I'd seen his signature. Taking a quick glance at the lanyards, of which there were four, I saw they were marked VIP all access/early entry, with the familiar Rammstein logo at the bottom of them.
"Bloody hell, who was your friend? I want to meet them." Emily laughed, taking one of the lanyards from the pile and putting it over her head. I subtly pocketed the note: clearly she hadn't seen it, or if she had she hadn't realised the significance of the author. Then again, I thought to myself ruefully, maybe I was the only one of us who was obsessed enough to see the little things.
I put one of the lanyards over my own head and put the spare two in my bag safely. Everyone was beginning to stand up and get ready to move. "Who is coming on now?" I asked.
"Bullet for my Valentine." she replied. "You missed Five Finger Death Punch with your gallivanting." It hadn't seemed like such a long time to me, but clearly the drama of earlier had lasted longer than I thought. Bullet were Emily's favourite band, and as usual they put on a fantastic live show. I was distracted though, and my thoughts kept straying to my encounter with Richard earlier and to his generosity with the passes. Before I knew it, Bullet were playing their final track and leaving the stage to roaring cheers. We grouped together again to decide what we would do for the rest of the afternoon before Rammstein headlined.
"They're doing a signing." Billy suggested. "Slipknot have just finished theirs and the queue for Rammstein isn't too bad yet."
"I'm up for that." I agreed immediately.

"Of course you are." Billy grinned, and we led the way to the signing tent. The line was quite a bit longer than Billy had expected, and a few people were put off.
"HIM are on." Kurt said. "I'd rather see them than wait in this line forever."
"Fair enough." We agreed, and Emily, Billy and I joined the end of the line. Shortly afterwards, David joined us.
"Thought I'd find you beautiful people here." He announced, standing next to Emily and putting his arm around her waist. She rolled her eyes at him but didn't move away and didn't complain, which I took as a good sign.
As we got closer to the entrance of the signing tent, the line started getting slower and slower. As we were standing and chatting, Billy suddenly noticed the lanyards around our necks.
"Where the fuck," he demanded, "did you get those?"
"From her 'friend'" Emily laughed. "No idea who he was...maybe a roadie or someone in management...?" She looked at me searchingly, fishing for more information.
"I can't reveal my sources." I joked, pulling out the other two passes and handing one each to Billy and David. They thanked me profusely, all the way into the tent. I shifted my position so that the three of them would be ahead of me. There was a guy at the entrance selling posters, and since I had nothing with me, I bought one for them to sign. Shaking my head at the price, but paying it anyway, we were suddenly at the front of the queue.
Sitting in a line not far from us, nothing but a table separating them from the fans, was Flake, Till, Schneider, Ollie, Paul and finally Richard. We were hurried along, able to exchange a quick hello and a handshake, they put their pens to the poster then we had to move along to the next band member. They didn't look pleased at the way everyone was being hurried, but I understood that the festival wanted as many people to get through as possible before the time was up. As I reached Richard he met my eyes and gave a warm smile. He reached for my hand and held it and he spoke to me.
"I'm glad to see you here. Are you feeling better?" he asked quietly.
"Yes, thank you. And thank you for the gifts, you didn't have to do that!"
"Oh but I did." he grinned disarmingly. I felt a hand on my shoulder and a security guy sternly told me to move along, earning him a frown from Richard. He let go of my hand and quickly scribbled his name on the poster, then beckoning to another of the security men. He said something in his ear, and indicated me and my friends who were leaving the tent excitedly discussing having met the band. Returning his attention to me, he motioned for me to lean towards him and he said quietly: "you're VIP so you can stay at the back of the tent. Mark will look after you until we can join you, so if you don't mind waiting. Few minutes, please do." I nodded as I straightened up, flushing slightly as I noticed that I truly had been holding the queue up; I was getting several angry glares and Paul was looking at Richard quizzically. He glanced at me after a look from Richard and smiled, then Richard mouthed "later" at me. I finally unfroze from my spot and almost ran from the tent.
"You took your time, did you faint when Richard touched your hand?" Billy laughed.
"Nah, he just wanted to tell me that these passes mean we can walk around back here and that they will meet us here in a few minutes, if we're willing to wait." I tried to sound offhand but giddy excitement crept into my voice.
"Are you fucking serious?!" David demanded, giving me a huge hug and a cheer when I nodded.
