《The Underworlds Hero》Why?

Just so we all are clear how the timeline for Endeavor and his family worked out, Touya had his accident about 15 years ago where his family thought he was dead. The rest is somewhat canon up till the All Might and AFO fight where Endeavor became number 1 after AFO's hospitalization. He's been the top pro for about 6 years now for his reality he's discovering in canon now already hitting him when he first became number 1. Rei was also able to be discharged about 3 years prior to right now. Enjoy.
"TOUYA! STOP THIS NOW!" A fire in the mountain range was spreading of blue fire with Endeavor shouting to his son from the outside of it. "TOUYA!" Inside the flames however, a young boy was holding back his screams in pain as the blue fire around him began to burn his skin. "I...can't." The flames around began to consume him with the screams of the boy being heard from a mile away. "NOOO!!!"
After a few days of major healing by Recovery Girl, me and Endeavor were released. Much to my displeasure though, she also healed the stitched in place injuries on my skin to turn them into scars that resembled what I looked like. But that was something I didn't care for. All I wanted to do was end everything now once and for all with Endeavor and finally prove I'm my own man. Walking up to the mountain range, Izuku tried to reason with me while we walked up. "You can't be serious about this right now Dabi." "I'm serious. I'm fighting Endeavor." "But why!? It's not gonna end well no matter who wins!" "I don't care. This is something that needs to be done." We kept going with Jin getting in my face next. "I understand the feeling of being nothing and wanting payback on the guy that made you feel it, but this isn't gonna wor-" "This isn't about getting payback or anything like that! This is about me and him doing what should've been done a long time ago!" Things were progressively getting worse until Ryukyu spoke up. "Though I don't think you're in the right, I will sit and watch just to make sure nothing bad happens. But if something goes over the line, be certain that we will intervene." I glanced back to see her, Nighteye, Fatgum, Aizawa, and Stain stare at me to give me a mental note of who's keeping this in check. "I'm not gonna kill him if that's what you're concerned with. We're just settling something that should've been done years ago."
We got up to the mountain top to show a dead area where my final days as Touya Todoroki came to pass. I saw Endeavor with Hawks, Miruko, and my entire family there. "I see you've made it." "Touya!" Fuyumi came running towards me to give a hug After not seeing me for years. "When dad said you were alive, I didn't know if it was true or not. But I'm so happy to see you're ok." Natsuo and mom came over as well to hug me with tears being in their eyes. "My baby boy. I'm so happy to see you again." Mom kept sobbing in my shoulder for me to pat her head. "It's ok. You don't have to cry." "So why didn't you say something man? We're your family man." I glanced at Natsuo to point at my scars. "You'd honestly wanna see this face man?" "Better than the pic I saw from Shoto. You looked like a burnt chicken nugget." Everyone laughed a bit before they walked to the side and sat beside Izuku and the League. There, I began speaking with Endeavor.

"So here we are. Back at the spot all those years ago. The spot where I died and Dabi was born." Endeavor only looked at me with unease before speaking. "Touya. Please-" "I'm not Touya! I'm Dabi!" I got angry when he started calling me by that name. "We're gonna end this today. When we were young, you said that I was going to become the greatest hero and then threw me to the side the second Shoto was born! I believed I could've been a great hero because of what YOU said! I spent fucking years training just to live up to that standard for YOU! Then once you saw something you didn't like about my quirk and found someone with the perfected form, you ignore me and isolate him and mom! Today is gonna be the fucking wake up call for you! GOT IT!" I stood in a readied stance with my hands starting to smolder a bit. Izuku got up before us to point something out. "Just so we're all clear, it's just going to be a fight with nobody killing the other. If someone does attack with intent, we'll stop this." We both nod for Izuku to hold his hand up and drop it. "BEGIN!"
Dabi immediately started off by making a few fireballs to attack Endeavor with. He merely held his wrists in a defensive position and tanked the fire. It looked as if the hit seared his suit a bit to surprise everyone. "Guess that suit of yours is able to handle this." "Not really. I could still feel the heat off of it." "Then let's see how you deal with this!" Dabi sent a wave of flames directly at Endeavor for the pro to once again block it. This time, the fire burned through the suit more notably and revealed his wrists with what looked like first degree burns on them. "Fight me dammit!" "I don't want to fight my son." "I'M NO LONGER YOUR SON!" Dabi continued his assault to send blast after blast of blue flames at Endeavor with him merely taking the attacks and dealing with any burns that were involved in this onslaught. All the while, the onlookers of this match were horrified by the result to have some scared for their life.
"Why isn't he fighting back? Touya's flames are stronger than his, but he can avoid them." Natsuo was enraged with Izuku covering Eri's eyes so she didn't have to see what was happening. "What's he doing?" "Perhaps it's to outlast Dabi's flames? This has me quite stumped as well." Miruko and Ryukyu were curious about this with Fatgum trying to eat the takoyaki he brought to enjoy, but suddenly having a loss of appetite from this. "Midoriya. What do you think's going on here?" Aizawa asked as the young boy is watching closely and acknowledging the pain on Endeavor's face. His eyes widened in realization. "Good. You see it too." Everyone turned to the underground pro for an explanation. "Endeavor is taking the flames as a way of self atonement for what he failed to do when Dabi was younger." "Wait, why?" Momo asked for Hawks to answer. "Because he wants to prove he means that he's sorry." "He's right." Everyone now turned to Rei who was watching with a pained look. "Enji may have done some awful things, but the one thing that he never recovered from or have come to accept is the fact he believed Touya died because of his actions. I think deep down...this actually broke him with nobody able to see until now just how badly it did."

The events continued to unfold with Dabi and Endeavor as the vigilante kept pelting his father with flame after flame. "Tch WHY WON'T YOU FIGHT ME!?" Endeavor looked up from his burned arms with a pained look. "I...won't....fight you...Touya....." This made Dabi become even more enraged with a bit of blood coming off his arms from the constant quirk abuse. "C'MON! ATTACK ME! IT'S NOT WORTH THE BURNS AND CONSTANT DEFENSE! SHOW YOUR TRUE DAMN COLORS!" Dabi was preparing for another attack and sent it at the pro with the flames engulfing his entire body. His mind began going back to when the vigilante was younger and happy to be Endeavor's son.
"Today we'll be working with your quirk so you can get better control over it." Endeavor stated this to his 5 year old son. Touya smiled ear to ear while nodding. "Now listen carefully son, you need to be very careful with your quirk since you can't control your flames as well as I can as well as yours are stronger than mine by some thousand degrees. It's imperative you keep that in mind when you use them." "Got it. So I need to make sure nobody gets hit with them." "You also need to limit and be certain you know where to hit someone if you ever do. Sometimes villains won't give you that option if you fight them." Touya nodded while holding his fist up. "When I grow up, I'll be a hero just like you dad!" The young child used his quirk to light his hand, but immediately stopped when he had was burning on his back hand.
Endeavor was able to survive this, but was badly hurt from it. "DABI STOP!" Jin got up ready to stop the fight with Kurogiri holding him back. "But if we don't stop this, he's gonna-" "This has to be done." Stain sat and watched unsettled by the acts while explaining. "Right now, Dabi is at war with himself. He sees the man in front of him as one that he despises instead of a man who wants to attempt to change. In his mind, he's seen the damage and refuses to accept that there's a chance his father could be right. But in his heart, he wishes these words to be sincere. Endeavor choosing not to fight is an example that he doesn't want to let things be as they are right now." Job didn't like it, but sat down. "COME ON! DO SOMETHING!? ATTACK ME! HIT ME WITH A FIRE BLAST! PROVE TO ME THAT YOU'RE THE NUMBER 1 HERO I'M FIGHTING DAMMIT!" Endeavor said nothing as his arms opened and started to bleed from the burns on him.
Endeavor was in a room silent with Touya before he began to raise his voice. "BUT WHY CAN'T I BE A HERO!?" "You can't control your flames. Even if you did, the drawback on your power is greater than mine. It would be a wasted effort." "BUT YOU SAID-" "I was wrong. I told you what I thought and I later found out I was wrong. You can't be a hero with the quirk you have." Endeavor got up and walked out of the room. Touya sat there letting the words sink in before losing it. "BUT YOU PROMISED ME I COULD! EHY DID YOU TELL ME I COULD IF I REALLY COULDN'T!?" He began throwing the table in the room along with whatever he could lift hearing the five words that would destroy him come out of his father's mouth. Outside the door however, Endeavor was somewhat ashamed of himself having to say the worst words to his son he could. Though he said these words, the actual statement came from the doctor saying the constant abuse on his body would be detrimental to Touya's health and heroism would be the worst thing imaginable. 'I'm sorry Touya, but this is for your own good.'
"Most of my life, you said I could be a hero and I believed that lie! No matter how much I worked though, I could never live up to the expectations you had for me! All I wanted to do was be the hero that you and I wanted me to be, BUT YOU HAD TO SAY WHAT YOU DID!" The flames around the two became a wildfire to trap them in blue fire. Izuku put Eri on Ochako's lap ready to get involved if this went out of hand. Most pros were ready to jump in as well with the Todoroki family scared for both their family members lives. "Tell me the truth right now dad, what was I to you? Was I a failure? A wasted effort? A defect?" Dabi's whole body was set ablaze for Izuku to stand up. "DID I EVEN DESERVE TO BE BORN IN THE FIRST PLACE!?" He charged at Endeavor with the scene being played in slow motion for everyone preparing for the worst to happen.
Touya had regularly found himself training alone after his talk with Endeavor. He vowed to be the hero he wanted to be whether his father agreed with his dream or not. One night in the forest, Touya had decided to practice Endeavor's ultimate attack. Prominence Burn. Unknown to him, his father had followed him this night to discover what he was about to do. "Touya! Stop now!" He looked over to see his father and felt nothing but anger. "Why, because I'm not 'strong enough'!? You and I know that I'm more than strong enough!" "That's not it. Come on, we're going hom-" "DON'T TOUCH ME!" Touya slapped Endeavor's hand out of the way and began charging his fire. "I'm going to prove I'm strong enough to be a better hero than you right here and now!" "Don't do this! It won't end well-" "PROMINENCE BURN!" Touya let loose a massive amount of fire to send Endeavor back into a tree and set the forest around them on fire.
"AAAAHHHHH!!!!!" Endeavor heard his son's screams to try and rush to his side. He was met however with massive amounts of heat blocking his path and only able to see Touya on the ground in pain with blue flames all over him. "TOUYA! STOP THIS NOW!" He could barely say anything from the pain as the fire continued to grow. "I....can't." The flames began to burst again with Touya's screams being heard from inside. "NOOO!!!"
After the fire was put out, the firemen brought Endeavor to the site of where Touya was. Sadly, all they had to show was a hardly identifiable jawbone that was that of a child's. Those who were present watched the broken father grab the last bit of what was his son and fall to the ground. "Touya. I'm sorry. *sniffle* I wish this didn't have to happen." Endeavor sobbed into the still steaming bone with everyone feeling empathy towards the now destroyed family. He was forced to come down to the station and answer questions about the event with the only thing he could think is how he failed his oldest son. However, there was a second pro who witnessed the event take place to jump into action at the last moment. Several miles away from the accident in a cottage, Touya was wrapped up with the pro working on him in order to save his life. As he woke up, he was met by the wooden roof of the unknown cabin.
"You're up. That's good." "Mmmph." Touya realized he couldn't speak as well as saw most of his body had bandages on it. "Just relax. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Hisashi Midoriya. More commonly known as the underworld hero AFO." Touya's eyes went wide hearing this as Hisashi placed his hand on his head. "Clear your mind and I'll be able to see what happened in your life now." Touya did as he was asked for the images of his life being played from his father's harsh but accepted training to the events that transpired not long ago. "I see. You're Enji's little boy and you wanted to be a hero. I'm sorry, but I found out why you can't from him a while back." Touya calmly listened to Hisashi speak. "You see, the doctor said that your quirk is not compatible with your body. This happens from time to time. The sad truth though is if you were to attempt it, the doctor said your life expectancy would be a miracle over the age of thirty because of the constant abuse your body would take from the backlash. Though he might've come off harsh, maybe this was your father's way of spring you the pain. You might've been better off hating him than yourself." Though he couldn't say anything. Touya began to cry seeing that even when he thought his father didn't care, he actually was trying to spare him the pain. 'So this was actually him trying to help me?'
Dabi was about to make contact with Endeavor's face with his flames before he stopped. All the flames around them dwindled to nothing with the hearing of sobs coming from the vigilante. "Why? *hic* Why couldn't you just say the truth back then? I...I just wanted to be a hero like you and was happy to be your son. I just wanted to be like you even if just a little. *hic* So why couldn't you just tell me the truth that it was medically impossible instead of making me hate you!?" Dabi fell to his knees with him losing his cool composure and revealing the pain he had. "If you knew, you'd think you were a waste of space. I'd rather that hate you'd have be on me since my flames were responsible for your drawback. Touya. I love you." Endeavor knelt down to hug his son with him banging on the remains of his costume. "You bastard! I wanted to make you proud of me! I wanted to be someone you'd look at and be proud to say 'that's my son. So why *hic* why did it have to be this way!?" Dabi sobbed into his father's shoulder as the two calmed the bad blood between them. Nobody said a word, but just let them have their moment.
And that finishes this chapter. So I'm just gonna say this. The anger Dabi had for Endeavor is more rage that he couldn't live up to the expectations they both had for him. These are things many people have for themselves and when reality hits you that you may not be able to fulfill them, the pain can hurt you. See how things happen next time. Hope you all enjoyed and thanks for reading.

Note: This is an anthology series, therefore the arcs are not presented in a linear fashion. There will be recurring characters and arcs that continues story threads from previous "chapters", but, for the most part, each arc standalone as a complete story, so you can pick and choose what you want to read. If you watched Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon series before, it's basically like that.I'm still relatively new in writing, so I would appreciate it if you'll be kind enough to provide feedback!
