《My Vampire (Book Three)》Chapter 20

"Isaac won't let you." I argue against Mark's orders but he doesn't care.
"If Isaac wants to stay in this pack as well, he will let you." He says and I glare at him even harder.
"Then let him come along." I suggest hoping for some compromise but he shakes his head.
"I'm not risking anymore lives of my wolves." He says and I hear Gabriel scoff beside me.
"Thanks for the love Marcus we'll be back by morning." He says and grabs my arm making us leave the room before Mark can say anything.
"I'm not going out there again. You got lucky the first time around him, he won't let me go again that easy." I say but Gabriel ignores me.
We head downstairs quietly and my chest aches slightly at the sight of Isaac playing with Crystal's sons.
"Use your gift. Otherwise he'll try to follow you." Gabriel whispers in my ear and Isaac looks over and smiles at me.
"I can't it's not right." I whisper back but Gabriel slightly pushes toward Isaac who is now walking over to me.
"Everything okay? You look upset?" He places his hand on my upper arm and the moment I feel its warmth I want his arms around me.
"Isaac. Mark wants me to go with Gabriel." I say with my head down and I hear his heartbeat quicken.
"What? No he could be out there. I'm not letting you-" he stops when I lift my head making direct eye contact with him. I'm in complete control of his thoughts and emotions, a trick Desiderius taught me, something he probably used on me.
"I'm leaving. You're staying here tonight. I'll be back in the morning." I say and the glazed look in his eyes hurts me even more and he nods agreeing with what I'm saying.
"I love you Isaac." I say and he only nods his head.
"Go play with the boys, everything will be fine." I say and break my hold on him, he straightens himself and gives me a small smile before turning around and walking towards Crystal and her sons, she looks at me and nods her head understanding.
"You did the right thing." Gabriel says and I shove past him and go outside immediately.
"Ada.." he calls my name and I wipe away a tear going down my cheek.
"Let's get this over with. Call Io we need her." I turn around but Gabriel won't meet my eyes.
"I've been trying to call her all day, she won't come." He says and I feel a little annoyed.
"What's the point of having her around if she won't come when called?" I yell and he just shrugs.
"She'll come when I'm in danger." He says and starts walking towards the woods.
"Where are you going? I already caught his scent in the other direction." I say annoyed but he just scoffs and continues walking the other way.

"Gabriel!" I yell and run after him only for him to start running as well.
"Stop it!" I catch him and pull him back by his forearm.
"Why are you running? We're supposed to be working together. I don't want to be out all night." I say and he turns around and the hurt look in his eyes catches me by surprise.
"I love you." He says and I let go of him immediately.
"Don't start this again. Please Gabriel." He steps towards lifting his hand to touch my cheek by I step back.
"Ada." He says more sternly but I keep backing away from him.
"Ada!" He yells this time and I feel someone's hand wrap around my neck tight and I gasp trying to get free. Gabriel wastes no time and get the hand off immediately and I turn around to see a young black man with blood running down his shirt growling viciously at Gabriel. Gabriel locks him in a choke hold and I hear the loud snap of his neck breaking.
"Mark wanted the lost wolves alive!" I yell at him and watch his body slump to the ground.
"Relax, he'll heal in a couple hours. He's been changed." He says calmly and my eyes widen.
"A hybrid? Like you?" I say looking at the man closer.
"We have to get him to the pack's prison and quick. There could be others around." He says and picks the body up. It takes 20 minutes to drop him back inside the pack and then we're back in the woods again only to be attacked by two more of Desiderius' hybrids.
"I thought you were stronger." Gabriel teases as he carries one body over his shoulder and I'm dragging the other and slightly struggling at it.
"I haven't eaten anything filling in hours." I groan and wipe away the blood going down my nose before Gabriel notices.
"Jesus you're like a baby." He sighs and drops the body immediately and walks over to me.
"What makes you think I want your-" I stop talking the moment Gabriel bites into his own vein and the smell of his blood invades my nostrils in seconds.
"Don't let it go to waste." He says and I lick my lips and grab his wrist immediately to drink.
"You could survive for months off my blood, especially when he starved you." He says and I pull back and swallow the rest that was in my mouth.
"I remember." I say and pick the body up and throw it over my shoulder.
After locking the two men away, an awkward silence falls between Gabriel and I decide it's better not to argue what direction he chooses to look for Desiderius.
"Do you still care about him?" Gabriel finally breaks the silence and I shrug.
"I don't think I ever really did. It was just his power over me. I cared for you. No magic could do that, you took care of me Gabriel. You always have." I say, but Gabriel refuses to look at me.

"Gabe." I say and smile when he turns around immediately when I call him by the nickname he hates so strongly.
"Let's just focus on finding the last fucking wolf please." He snaps at me and I can't help but laugh at his anger.
"You can't stay mad at me Gabriel." I laugh and run to catch up to him only to see him standing completely still.
"What's wrong?" I ask and look at his face, then I stare ahead at what he was looking at and take a few steps back.
"When is there not something wrong with poor dear Gabriel?" Desiderius' voice calls out and he nonchalantly walks toward us.
"I've missed you two." He smiles between us and I hear Gabriel growl lowly.
"Ada. Sweetheart." His voice calls out to me and I almost feel drawn to it, until Gabriel grabs my wrist tight and pulls me behind him. I flinch at the sound of Desiderius hissing and hide myself further into Gabriel's back.
"I'm giving you one chance. Ada come over here now and I'll leave your little friends alone." Desiderius says and Gabriel holds onto me even tighter.
"Ada..." Desiderius says more sternly and I'm trying so hard to keep from responding to him. I let out a small yelp when I feel myself ripped from Gabriel's arms and Desiderius now has his arm wrapped around my waist and the other around my neck.
"Stop it!" Gabriel yells taking a step towards us and I scream when Desiderius squeezes his arm around me tight and I feel a crack in my ribs. I groan and try my best not struggle against his grip, I feel the tip of his nose dragging against my hair and I shiver as he inhales deeply.
"I've missed you so much." He whispers in my ear and I feel my eyes tearing up as I look over at Gabriel. Desiderius throws his head back and leans his cheek against my temple and holds me a little bit tighter and I hold back another scream.
"Let her go. Please." Gabriel's voice sounds so desperate.
"Okay." Gabriel says cheerfully and he tightens his hold on my neck and throws me behind him making me collide against the rough bark on a tree and I whimper as I hold my hand against my forehead and see that I have been cut. I turn around and see Gabriel rip his clothes off as he shifts into his wolf to attack Desiderius.
"Gabriel don't!" I yell and hold my side as I stand up. I keep my distance and wait for my rib to heal quicker as I watch in horror as Desiderius throws Gabriel around like nothing, he's too fast Gabriel hasn't even left a mark on him.
"God dammit!" I cry out and bite the inside of my cheek to try and distract myself from the pain in my ribs. Gabriel spots me in his side and growls as if to warn me to stay away but I don't listen and I walk in between them so they could stop fighting. Gabriel shifts back and I see the scratches on his chest slowly healing as he breathes heavily with anger, I look to my left and notice Desiderius smirking calmly, you could hardly even tell he was in a fight.
"I am not yours anymore." I stand up straighter as I look straight into Desiderius' eyes.
"I have a mate. His name is Isaac and I love him and I won't let you ruin and control my life anymore. Or Gabriel's. You treated us like dirt and never cared if we lived or die. But you...you will die alone and I will promise you that." I say feeling bold and take step towards him and face him completely with my back facing Gabriel.
"Now you will let us leave. And you will leave this pack alone, leave this entire country and never come back." I spit at him and his smile dissappears and I see his eyes slowly fuming with anger.
"You don't get to leave until I say so." He begins to shake with anger and before I can even blink he has rushed past me and I hear a loud cracking noise that sends a chilling feeling down my spine. I turn around slowly and see Gabriel's head has been twisted completely around and he now lies motionless on the ground with his dead eyes staring blankly at me.
"No.."I whisper softly and notice black clouds of smoke forming around his body.
"That's our cue to leave darling." Desiderius steps over his body and I don't fight back when he grabs my wrist at least until I finally see Io appear from the smoke and kneel beside Gabriel.
"Save him! Save him please!" I try to run towards his body but Desi pulls me back with so much force I'm surprised he didn't rip my arm off, I feel a warm stream roll down my cheek as her hand shakily lays on Gabriel's cheek.
"Good to see you Io." Desiderius laughs and wraps his hand around my neck stopping the sob that threatened to escape my mouth.
Io says nothing and lets her hair fall down like a curtain to cover her face but I see her entire body trembling.
"Gabriel.." I choke out and feel mote tears stain my clothes and roll onto Desi's hand.
"Looks like no one will be coming for you baby Ada." Desiderius whispers in my ear and my mind becomes fuzzy as my vision slowly fades to black.

Author's Note: - This story will contain litrpg elements like Titles, Skills, and Levels. - MC will not become instantly powerful. I plan for a slower grind with a focus on the characters themselves rather than their abilities. - This is my first attempt at a litrpg story, so please leave any comments/suggestions you have!

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
