《Heavens Light (A Magi Fanfic)》Chapter 5: Practice

It's been about three days sense we left Balbadd and these past three days were boring. I sat in the room laying on my hammock reading a book I bought at the market. No figure it's about dragons of course, I wanted to learn things about them. Ruby was a fire dragon that normally lived near volcano's. There skin is as tuff as metal, but there weakness is water. Once water is poured into the mouth while it's about to shoot it's fire it puts it out causing the water to boil.
"Wow, that's sounds really painful." I said to myself. I keeped reading but was interrupted when the door opened revealing Morgianna.
"Hi, Morginna, do you need something?" I asked setting the book down on my lap.
"Yes, Quinn and Isabelle want you on the deck." she said with the same straight face as always.
"Alright, I'll be right there." I said getting out of the hammock and put the book back in the bag. I walked up on deck to see Quinn standing by a stack of barrels with Alibaba standing next to her. Aladdin was by the captain looking at the map. In the center of the deck showed Isabelle with her dagger out in front of her facing Hakuryuu. He had a spear with him as the both circles one another.
"What's going onn?" I asked Quinn when I got to her.
"Alibaba and Hakuryuu are going to teach us how to defender ourselves better, and I want you up here to practice as well." she said watching the two.
"Yea like I need to be teached how to fight." I said rolling my eyes. I looked over at the two as they stopped circling one another. Hakuryuu made the first move, launching at Isabelle swing his spear sideways a little below her chest. She moved back deflecting the attack with her dagger, knocking the spear to the side leaving Hakuryuu open. She charged forward at him, dagger ready to stab at his chest, but he grabbed her arm stopping her. She changed her attack, going down and knocking him off his feet with her leg, sending him to the ground. He landed on his back with a thud, as Isabelle quickly put the dagger to his throat. He smiled at her happily as she did the same.
"Good job, you are a fast learner." he said moving her hand and getting up. They were both panting from exhaustion.
"Let's take a break." Isabelle said walking over sitting inbetween the space were me and Quinn where standing.
"I guess that hand to hand combat training payed off." I said looking down at her with a smile.
"Well, I did have a good teacher." she said smiling back at me huffing.
"You know hand to hand combat?" Alibaba asked leaning forward from the barrels on the other side of Quinn so he can see me.
"A little bit, I learned some from my brother when he was at home." I said.
"Let's make a deal, I will help you learn how to use a sword and you teach me some hand to hand combat, sound good." he said with an evil smile thinking that I couldn't handle fighting with a boy. I shrugged my shoulders.
"Sure, I'm not scared to beat up a guy, I've done it plenty of times." I said with a sly smile.
"Alright, then it's settled." he said holding out his hand. I tooking his hand and shook it completing the deal.

"Let's get started." I said walking to the middle of the deck. Quinn shook her head feeling bad for Alibaba. He looked at her confused when she patted his back.
"You have no idea what you got yourself into, she is going to make your training a living hell." she said shivering from the thought when I trained her. His face was terrified and he looked at me and took a big gulp before walking to the center facing me. He's face grew serious as I stood there with a smile.
"Ok, before I can train you hand to hand combat, I need to know what you are capable of first so, try hitting me." I said pounding my chest. He nodded readying himself. Once he did, the smile on my face disappear and replaced with a serious gaze. He was a little startled by my sudden change in mood but keeped his ground.
"Man, Ashlin looks scary." Hakuryuu said with a shiver. I could tell Morginna was interested in the fight because she was watch very carefully. Alibaba launched at me, is fist going to my face. I moved my head to the side dodging it and went around him pushing him in the back with my foot causing him to stumble. He turned back around and charge again. I ducked under is fist and slammed my elbow into is gut sending him flying a couple a feet away. He landed on his back, holding his stomach, graoning in pain, but quickly got back up to fight some more. I sighed as he charged at me again but this time he ducked under and used his leg to sweep at my feet. I jumped over his leg and grabbed his arm, I twisted it making him yell. I used my other hand, placed in his back and slammed him onto the ground making the wood crack a little. I let go of him as he sat there not even moving. The others started to freak out but stopped when they saw him move a little. He slowly got up with one hand on his knee and the other holding his stomach.
"Your not bad, but you keep leaving yourself open when you attack giving your enemy the opportunity to strike, also you need to balance yourself more." I said my expression not changing at all. He looked up with a pained expression on his face. I small drizzle of blood was going down the edge of his face.
"Ashlin, look what you did, you made him bleed." Isabelle said disappointed in me. I have her a glare which made her shut up pretty quick. I walked over to him and smiled.
"With a little work, you'll do just fine." I said grabbing his arm and putting it around my shoulders.
"I'm going to take him back to the room and help him with is new injuries." I said as I started to slowly walk Alibaba to the room. Once we got to the room I sat him down next to the wall so he can lean on it. I grabbed my backpack and started to dig for my first-aid kit.
"You pretty good at fighting." Alibaba said leaning his head on the wall his eyes closed. I laughed a little and grabbed the kit and sat next to him.
"Yea, I learned it all from my brother, his second in command so he got special training." I said as I dipped some cloth into some alcohol and dapped his wound on his head. He flinched a little from the stinging. He looked at me and smiled.

"Your brother sounds really nice." he said. I stopped what I was doing and frowned a little, but smiled continuing trending to his wounds.
"Yea, he is pretty nice, but I never really see him anymore ever sense he was moved to a different post." I said looking at his arm which had a small cut in it. "Also this year is going to be a little different." I said with a large smile.
"Why?" Alibaba asked.
"In 3 weeks my birthday is coming up, but instead of spending it with my family I get to spend it in a new place and with new friends." I said look up giving him a cute smile, he smiled warmly at me.
"There all done, now you should rest, I don't want my swordmans ship teacher out of commission." I said in a teasing tone, he just rolled his eyes and smiled.
"Yeah, that would be a dissapointment." he said teasing back. I stuck out my tongue at him as he laughed.
"I'm going back on deck so everyone knows your ok." I said about to walk out of the door until the boat moved causing me to fall. I closed my eyes ready for impact of the hard wooden floor but instead felt something warm on my back. I opened my eyes to see Alibaba looking at me, I fell into his lap. His face was really close to mine that I could feel is breath. My face went red as I scrambled out of his lap.
"S-sorry." I said stuttering a little Alibaba's face was red as well.
"I-its ok." he said looking away.
"Well, I'm going now." but before he could say anything I ran out of the room. I walked up on deck my face still a little pink. I looked up to see Isabelle talking to some boy and Quinn and Hakuryuu standing by the barrels talking to one another. I smile creepied up on to my face.
"Hey, Hakuryuu, can I talk to you for a minute." I yelled getting is attention. He excused himself from Quinn and walked up to me.
"What do you need?" He asked with a happy smile on his face.
"You like Quinn don't you?" I asked. He blushed red with wide eyes.
"Who told you that." he said panicking so little.
"It's written all over your face." I said pinching his red cheeks. He knocked my hands away and glared at me.
"So what if I do like her." he said a little mad. My smile went a way and went to a straight face.
"Now you listen to me boy, if I ever find out the you hurt her in anyway, I will murder you in your sleep." I said cracking my knuckles. He shook is head up and down violently, terrified of me. I smiled at him happy at his replay.
"Good, by the way Alibaba should be just fine, he's resting in the room." I said patting his head. His face was all red from embarrassment that I found out, but soon disappeared with a large creepy smile.
"Well, if you tell anyone that I like her, I will tell everyone what happened when you fell on Alibaba." he said laughing. I could feel my face turn red.
"If you do that I will make your death slow and painful." I said with a huff and walked away. He stood there realising what I said. He had one of those 'oh shit, im going to die' looks. I smiled to myself as I walked over to Quinn.
"Hey, Quinn." I said as I waved.
"Hey, Ashlin how's Alibaba?" She asked.
"He should be fine, he just has a couple of cuts and brusies." I said leaning back onto the barrels. Being out at sea can be boring but it's really nice. All of a sudden the boat moved horrible making everyone out on deck fall over. I fell onto me my back and Quinn landing on top making me groan in pain.
"Get off." I said pushing her off of me. I stood back up and ran to the railing to look down below. I saw something moving below and it was big.
"Captain, there's something down there." a man yelled not to far from me. Isabelle ran over to me along with Quinn and Hakuryuu.
"Men, prepare for battle!" The captain yelled as men started to run around grabbing spears and swords. Aladdin ran over.
"What's going on?" Hakuryuu asked.
"We are in the Bermuda triangle, we're being attacked by one of the monsters." Aladdin said gasping inbetween breathes. My eyes grew wide as I saw a man get pulled into the water on the other side. For a slit second I saw part of the monster.
"Oh shit, I just read about that, this ain't good." my mind screamed at me.
"What ever you do when it comes out of the water do not cut it's heads off!" I yelled at the men.
"Why!?" One of the men yelled. just then the monster came out from under the water making the boat rock furiously.
"It's a Hydra, if you cut off one head two more grow back!" I yelled as the hydra's five heads where looking down staring at the men on the boat.
"Look at all this delicious food for us." said one of the Hydra heads.
"It can talk." Quinn said shocked. It's five heads looked towards us then at me.
"Well, look who it is, it's the princess." said the middle head. My eyes went from shocked to terrified. The memory of the man from my dream on what he said rang in my head. 'you can die along with your friends, princess'.
"What did he mean by princess." I thought as my face turned to anger and bawled my hands into fist. I pointed at the Hydra.
"I don't know what you mean by princess, but I know one thing for sure your not going to hurts these people." I yelled. It just laughed at me. I lifted my bracelet up to my chest as the star glowed.
"Oh, gardian of the heavens, come to my beckoning call, let your power flow through me, come forth, Angila." I chanted as the star grew brighter. My bracket turned into a sword. The hilt of the sword curled down to the bottom of the handle. It had beautiful wing design on the hilt. The blade was as sharp as a razor blade. [look at the sword on the cover of the book, that's what it looks like.] I held it out in front of me ready for the Hydra to attack. All five heads glared at me, on of them launched towards me has I dodged.
"Hakuryuu, use your power to tie down it's heads and close their mouths!" I yelled. Without saying a word he sent vines at it, pinning it heads down on the boat and muzzling it's mouths shut. I ran to the body of the Hydra. I jumped off the boat, sword down and stabbing it's back into the heart. Blood poured out if it's freshly made wound. It thrashes around for a while but soon stopped. I pulled my sword out changing back to my bracelet I had, I took a step, but right as I did everything was going fuzzy. My head was spinning as my sight started to see spots. I couldn't stand anymore and fell backwards into the water. I heard my friends yell my name as I went down into the water. Once I heard the splash, I was consumed by darkness.

The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody
[participant in the 2018 NaNoWriMo Royal Road challenge] The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody is a LitRPG system story where each person transitions into the system, or SCHEMA as this system is known, innocent and unaware of his former life. Following the tutorial, memories return, but by this point, each person has a better chance of accepting their new world. It also gives them an opportunity to start from scratch, fresh without all the baggage of their former lives dictating their decisions in the early stages of the process. I don’t expect this will necessarily turn into an action-packed heroic tale, my intent is to create a character who wants to have just an ordinary, but reasonably comfortable life. I don’t know myself how well he will succeed, there may be twists and Tom may discover some heroism hidden deep inside. I guess we’ll find out together. This is my first writing attempt. I’ve wanted to write all my life, but I’ve never been able to develop the proper discipline to put in the work. I hope I complete the challenge and work my way past this hump. I am writing this as part of the NaNoWriMo Royal Road Challenge. While I will try to self-edit as I go, the challenge requires close to 2,000 words a day, so parts of the story may be rough, and things like plot lines may not make as much sense as any of us would like. If all goes well, and I complete the challenge, I plan on going back through everything and trying to polish it up. In the meanwhile, thank you for reading and I hope I don’t disappoint.
