《Akatsuki (Magi Ja'far X Fem Reader)》Chapter 5

Ja'far
I walk briskly through the streets of the city. Sinbad has sent me to run a few errands, though I'm sure he just wants me to get some fresh air. A group of children play by the road and the smell of the sea drifts gently on the breeze. Although I can't wait to return to the palace to finish reading reports, I have to admit that sometimes a little bit of fresh air is nice too.
Of course, she's with me too. Sinbad wants her to make herself useful and maybe help me run my errands. She has been helpful by carrying some of the things that I have to send, though I have to make sure she doesn't run away. Still, I haven't forgotten that night when she sat on the palace walls, staring at the sea. Why didn't she run off back then?
Finally, I deliver the last of my things and turned to go back to the palace. "Come on, let's go," I say to the girl. I turn to see her staring at the harbour, the ships gliding across the sparkling blue waters. I put a hand on her shoulder and urge her to leave again. She turns to me and just for a second, my eyes widen in surprise. For just a split second there, I saw something in her (e/c) eye before she snapped out of it and turned to face me.
"Come back here, you brat!" a voice yells. A man chases after a little boy carrying two apples and running away. The boy cries out as the man catches up to him and starts beating him. The man stops when I grab his arm.
"That's enough, sir. Let the boy go," I say. "Mind your own business!" the man barks, swinging my arm against a stall. A burning pain sears through my arm and I loosen my grip. A blood stain blooms on my left sleeve. I knew I should've taken more time to take care of my burn wound.

Suddenly, a hand pulls mine away from the man's arm. The girl helps me up before helping the little boy. The man grabs her wrist and says,"Don't interfere, woman!" He barely finishes his sentence before (y/n) flips him over her back, throwing him to the ground like a sack of potatoes. Sprawled on the ground, he looks like a complete and utter fool.
Shaking, the man points and the girl and says," You...you're not a normal woman, are you?" She just stares at him silently with that one blank eye. I volunteer to pay for the apple before heading back to the palace, holding my arm.
~At the palace~
I wince as she cleans my wound. Despite my protests, she insists on taking care of my wound...even though she's the one who inflicted it in the first place. "Why are you doing this?" I ask, annoyed. She stops, takes some paper and writes something down. 'Yamuraiha wants me to look after you.' I sigh and roll my eyes. Yamuraiha acts like a big sister to everyone sometimes. She writes something else on the paper and shoves it in front of my face.
'And also, I'm sorry about causing your injury.'
I sit in stunned silence, staring at the piece of paper. Did I read that wrong?
I let the girl quietly finishes wrapping my arm in a bandage. 'Now go get some rest,' she writes.
For once, I actually listen. I don't want another event like today to happen after all. I lay wide awake in my bed, trying to sleep. After a few minutes, I give up. Might as well check on her. I go over to her room, which was now right next to mine. My eyes widen when I see the empty room and the open windows. Not again!

Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.
