《Colors ✔》06 | hot pinks

My eyes almost bulge out of their sockets when I realize Ace isn't wearing a shirt. Never in my life have I seen such a chiselled body, for real. I look at his face hoping he didn't catch me looking at his body but the smirk that slowly turns into a small smile says instead.
Did he just.. smile? I look at him, dazed.
"So... what happened yesterday?" My voice is soft and defeated. I can't go back in time if something did happen.
"Come on, speak something," I demand. More like beg.
"Did we..?" I hint suddenly feeling bashful. I look at my intertwined hands on my lap over the covers.
"Did we..?" he draws out, his voice husky as always, his smile widening even more. Dimples appear on his left cheek. I pull myself out of the daze.
"You know..." I grit my teeth when he laughs. He motions with his hand to carry on.
"Did we... sleep together?" I get it out and I'm pretty sure I look like a tomato. His laughs fill the air and God, why do I like it so much? I never thought I'd see him laugh. It sounds heavenly. Even though he's laughing at me.
"You know, kitten," he says between his laughs, "you're cute." My heart skips a beat. Cute? Me?
"K-kitten?"
"You're like one," he brushes it off.
But what's so funny? Maybe he doesn't like me that way.. so the idea might seem funny to him. That causes my heart to constrict a little. Just a little.
I stand up, my headache subsides a little. My dress.. I'm not wearing them. Instead, I'm wearing my PJs, how? Why is Ace in my house? How did he get here... why don't I remember anything?
What in the hell is happening.

"Tell me what happened," I say groggily. His laughter dies down as he comes near. I hold my hand out to stop him, I don't want the closeness to distract me.
"Can you please?"
He nods his head, his face turns serious and I wonder if I'll ever see that side of him again.
"You drank too much." Too much?
"I didn't drink at all," I say, baffled.
His serious expression morphs into a frown. "I found you passed out in a couch, at midnight-"
"Midnight? But we reached there at 8," I tell him. His frown deepens.
"I searched for Ava and that is how I am in your apartment," he tells me.
"Ava told you where I lived? Just like that?" I ask in shock. Why would she do so?
"No, she was here all night. Just left an hour ago," he says.
"And why are you shirtless?" I ask as I try not to look down. But a little peek wouldn't hurt, right? Don't look, don't look-
Dear God. He looks better than the models in these magazines. Is it possible for a boy his age to have that kind of body? Wow.
"Don't see you complaining," he says. I turn red for the umpteenth time.
Time.. right.
"What's the time? Are we late for school?"
"No. But we'll have to skip the library," he tells.
"Why?"
"The assignment," he says, his eyes on mine. Dammit heart, stop going crazy. He is only looking.
"But you-"
"I changed my mind."
"We can do it in the evening? If you don't mind" I tell him, desperately hoping he'd say yes.
"Sure," he says. I feel like he sounds almost eager.
"Your place?" I ask hopefully.
He mumbles a quick sure. I nod and get up, walking to the bathroom leaving a shirtless Ace behind. Never going to a party again. At least not when I have school the other day.

Ace freshens up in my bathroom after me and decides to not go to his home because it would take much time. Showing up in school together makes me feel a little tingly. He doesn't seem to care. I have no option left though unless I walk and show up late on the second day of school.
I wear a plain white shirt with blue denim jeans and tie my hair into a messy bun. Having Ace in my apartment doesn't feel weird and it is quite weird that it doesn't feel weird. You get what I mean.
However, the ride to school is completely awkward because we keep looking at each other and when our gazes meet, we look away. The air also turns so thick. Once Ace parks the car, I walk away quickly after a small thank you.
For someone who is known for not talking at all, he doesn't prove it. He doesn't seem like 'bad news' either. He's saved me twice.
I meet Ava by the locker. She surprises me by hugging me.
"Venus, I'm so sorry," she tells me, "I shouldn't have left you alone last night."
She's just been my friend for a day, so I don't mind. But maybe she should have been with me considering it was my first party? But... she was there all night.
"It's not your fault, Ava. Thank you for being there all night, means a lot," I reassure her. It truly means a lot.
"You know, Ace doesn't seem like a bad guy. Stupid rumours. He was worried sick," she says. I nod along, feeling butterflies in my stomach when she says he was worried. I take out my books for the first class. It's calculus and I have it with Ava.
She tells me about this 'Brianna' girl as we walk to the class. I don't completely listen to her because my mind goes to last night's events but I get that Brianna is the school slut, not my words, and I have to stay away from her.
The lunch comes pretty soon. I take my tray and walk to our table, ignoring the familiar eyes on me. However, before reaching my table, I am completely drenched in water. The tray falls from my hands.
"Oops," I hear a voice say. I wipe my face with my sleeves as I look at the culprit. It's a girl with strawberry blonde hair curled and while she looks really pretty with those blue eyes and pinkest lipstick, she's the replica of a barbie. She looks pretty.
Also, she doesn't look sorry at all.
All eyes are on us and everyone waits for the drama that's about to come. Sorry people, no one's getting anything.
"You're not going to do anything?" The girl says as she puts one of her hands on her waist. I might be shy and all but I won't get intimidated by the barbie. I might have done something if I wasn't feeling tired. Like telling her how that's not a nice thing to do.
I give her a small glare and walk to the washroom. Ava joins me. However, while everyone is shocked I notice people looking at my shirt. I look down and groan once I'm on the hallway.
Why did I wear a white shirt? And a pink bra underneath? Because it becomes see-through, thanks to Barbie's water, and now my pink bra is visible through it.
Just great.

A companion book to Instrumental, can be read as its own story but I think really works best after reading the first book.
