Shawn sat on the grass with his sister Aaliyah, helping her do some homework for school, while his 4 year old son, Jake, ran around at the park. Tarzan, the young Labrador laid next to Shawn, shaded by the picnic basket in front of him. He looked up from the algebra question to see the young boy at the top of the slide. Shawn waved to Jake causing both Mendes boys to wear a identical grin. Jake looked exactly like his father and it was near impossible to mistake him for Shawn's son. After eating lunch Jake was off to play.

They had nearly finished Aaliyah's homework when Shawn Jake scream followed by a loud wail. Shawn jumped up and ran over to the monkey bars where Jake was crying and clutching his arm to his chest.

"Jake! What's wrong buddy?!" Shawn rushed concern evident on his face

"I- I fell off the monkey bars and my arm hurts now"

"Aww buddy can I see"

"No. I heard something snap when I fell and-and I think I cut my knee too"

"I need to see it Jake, just to be sure if we need to go to the hospital"

Jake reluctantly agreed and moved his arm away from his body, lip trembling.

"Come on bud, I think it's broken, we're gonna go to the hospital."

He picked the boy up and rushed them both over to the picnic rug, they Had set out.

"What happened? Where are we going?"

Aaliyah asked beginning to pack her stuff up.

"To the hospital. I think he broke his arm."

After they packed all the stuff, Shawn carried Jake being careful of his arm while Aaliyah carried all their stuff to the car.

Once they were all strapped in the car, Shawn sped off to the hospital.

"Help. I need a doctor to help my son"

Shawn called loudly into the hospital.

A doctor rushed over to the three and crouched down to jakes level as soon as he saw the boy crying harshly.

"What happened?"

"I think he broke his arm at the park. His names Jake Mendes" Shawn rushed.

"Okay. Let's go get an x-ray. And we'll go from there" the doctor explained calmly.

The doctor led the way to a private room where he let Shawn and Aaliyah stay and fill out Jake's paperwork before brining Jake to the x-ray room.

When they returned Jake had stopped crying as the pain relief kicked in and Shawn was pacing around the room.

"Is be okay?" Shawn asked halting his steps.

"He's okay. I gave him some paracetamol I hope that's okay for the pain. And he has broken his arm. It'll be in a cast for 6 weeks and then bring him back and we'll see how you are then okay?"

"Alright. Yeah of course. Thank you so much"

"That's okay. You've got a strong polite boy here"

"Yeah he is"

After getting a blue cast that was signed by his father and aunt, the three went back to Karen and Manny's house.

6 weeks later the two boys walk back into the hospital for their appointment.

"Hello" Jake said to the doctor

"Hey there. Are you ready to take this cast off?"

"Yeah!"

"We'll take it off and x-ray it although it should be healed and then your all good to go"

Shawn nodded and took a seat on the bed watching Jake walk with the doctor.

He was watching tour videos when the door opened and he sat up.

"All good?"

"Yep. I even got to see the bone daddy on the screen. There's no break in it this time"

"That's amazing bud. Thank you doctor. Come on Jake I think it's time for ice cream"

Shawn smiled at the doctor and led the young boy to the ice cream shop.
