《Lustrous》Chapter 10: The Dinner Date from Hell

"Are you sure this is the right move Sky?" Jessie asked me for the third time as she picked up one of my necklaces and walked back over to me still struggling to straighten my hair.
"Yes." I breathed out in a sigh. "It's just a date."
"I know but I am just making sure you know what you're doing, that's all."
I was still a little unsure if this was cheating or not, but there was no emotional connection between Anthony and I so even if he did find out, he wouldn't be mad or angry. Would he?
You're second guessing yourself again.
I closed my eyes and tried to steady my thoughts. No. I was doing this.
Taking a deep breath I opened my eyes and looked over my reflection. My hair was as straight as it was ever going to get with a small kink at the bottom, my face held a natural foundation and my eyes were framed by mascara and eye liner. I didn't bother trying to do some Smokey eye look with my eye shadow, I had minimal hand eye coordination and just too even attempt would surely end in disaster.
"Here," Jessie handed me a necklace. "Wear this one, it suits you the best." She padded my shoulder and then left me alone in my room to go and plan her lessons for next week's classes. Jessie didn't approve of anything I have done in the last few days. She didn't like the agreement I made with my father and step mother, she didn't like the fact that I was going to marry a man I barely knew and I highly doubted she approved of this so-called date I was about to go on with Xavier.
I looked at the necklace she chose and smiled. It was my favourite necklace. A simple diamond the size of a small finger nail hanging from a thin silver chain. This one piece of jewellery summed me up perfectly.
Pulling the necklace on around my neck I flicked my hair back, over my shoulder and stood up from the chair. Walking over to my bed I untied my dressing gown and let it fall to my ankles in a heap pile.
I picked up my dress and stepped into the silky material. It was a beautiful dress and one that I bought and not Charlene and her chokingly tight corsets. The dress was a black halter neck, with a v chest line. It clung nicely to my breasts and stomach only to fan out as it came to my curves and lower stomach - the entire ensemble falling to just above my knees. Simple but still classy and cute - just right for me.
Pulling on my ring and ear rings to compliment the necklace, my phone stated to ring and Xavier's number came up again making me smile.
"Hello?"
"Hey Sky. I'm parked outside."
"Okay, I'll be down shortly." Hanging up the phone I slipped into my small silver heels and grabbed my cream bag with silver finishing's. Okay I'm ready.
Saying a quick goodbye to Jessie I rode the elevator down to the ground and walked out of the building seeing Xavier leaning against his blue sedan in a light shirt and a pair of dark coloured jeans. Smiling I walked over to him, his eyes brightening as I caught his attention.

"You look amazing." He greeted me as I stopped in front of him, he leaned in, placing his hand on my back and leaned in, kissing my cheek sweetly.
"You don't look so bad yourself." I smiled at him.
Xavier opened the passenger side door for me and held my hand whilst I slipped into the seat - not so elegantly - before he rounded the car and slid into the driver's seat. We drove the short distance to a small restaurant in the centre of the city, it was a quaint place. We entered through the outer section that was sheltered under a roof of vines and held wild flames on troches in between the tables. Walking inside were it was warmer I noticed it resembled more of a pub and immediately liked the place that much more. We were seated in the middle of the room - much to my dismay and begging to be seated in one of the booths in the back of the restaurant - and given the menus to browse.
"They have the best spiced chicken here." Xavier beamed at me as he sat his menu down, clearly already knowing what he was going to order - this made me feel a little rushed.
I didn't particularly like spicy food and always ended up with my tongue in a fountain of water like a dog with its water bowl.
Quick. What do I eat? I looked over the pasta menu.
Pasta? Really? You'll probably end up getting the sauce all over yourself and Xavier's nice, clean shirt.
You right. Pizza...
You'll have to eat it with a knife and fork and not your hands like a popper lady.
Stake, maybe...
"What can I get you guys?" The waitress asked. Shit! I'm out of time.
"I'll have the spicy chicken with chips on the side." Xavier answered her with a polite smile while I looked at the menu in a panic.
Both the waitress and Xavier turned to look at me with questioning eyes. "I - uh - I-I'll have..." I dragged out my words to buy me some time. "Can I get the spicy chicken but without the spice?"
They both stared blankly at me.
What was wrong with that order? Not everyone likes spices!
"Sure." The waitress smiled fakely at me before retreating towards the kitchen to place our orders.
I don't like her.
"So how is that finger treating you?" Xavier asked me. I raised my hand to show him how the stiches were slowly heeling and he took the opportunity and gently grasped my hands, slowly turning them over in his hands, the gently touch of his fingertips tickled my skin.
Oh he got moves.
"It's heeling very nicely. I'm almost disappointed." He smiled.
"Well you never know, I may have to cut some onions again in the not too distant future."
He chuckled.
Seriously how is that still funny? Find a new object to flirt with woman.
"So tell me about yourself Sky."
"There's not much to tell."
Liar!
"Oh, I'm sure there is a lot more to you than meets the eye."
He can see right through you.
I giggled nervously and tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear. "I'm just an average girl." I shrugged.

"Average? I would hardly call beauty like that average." Xavier pressed making me blush bright red.
I think I'm going to gag.
"You're too kind."
"Not kind enough Sky, you must hear that all the time though." Xavier shook his head.
So very sly Mr Collison.
I giggled, "Only from charming doctors in the emergency room."
Our food came out in a short while, my spicy chicken without the spice was incredibly spicy. I had my tongue in my glass of coke after every bite. This was ridiculous. I pushed my meal away after eating only half of it and decided to just suck on the ice blocks to calm my burning tongue.
Xavier was cute, sweet and loved to make jokes. His passion for his work was admiring and his smile was a lovely sight that I would gladly stare at all day. If only you were the man I was marrying and not Anthony Renner.
Don't be so harsh on Renner, he has his moments.
Like when?
Well, uh, um... he was considerate earlier today?
He was also an asshole earlier today.
I wasn't going to threat about Renner and the sham of a marriage, not tonight, tonight I was going to have fun with Xavier, we were going to have a great conversation, he was going to take me home and kiss me. Maybe even a little more, I wasn't sure, He didn't seem too interested in anything other than a goodnight kiss at the moment.
I was actually enjoying myself and it was all thanks to Xavier.
"Should we leave? It's getting kind of late." Xavier suggested.
I smiled sweetly at him as he raised his hand for the check. The sudden touch on my bare shoulder made me jump and spin around. The light brown eyes of my future husband glistened down at me, with a hint of mischief.
"Hi honey." Anthony smiled at me and leaned in to kiss me. I was frozen in place as Anthony's lips made contact, gently colliding with my own and sending a spark through my entire being.
No body! I forbid you to respond to his kiss.
Like hell! Respond body! RESPOND!
I felt my cheeks heat up at the sudden attention while Anthony gets comfortable and sits down to my right, in between Xavier and I. Sitting tall, Anthony ran a hand through his hair roughly and squared his shoulders while Xavier attempted to do a similar pose. They were sizing each other up? Anthony was too intimidating do be seen as anything other than competition.
Xavier looked between Anthony and I and I could see the clear confusion in his eyes. Right, I suppose this was a little weird, another man coming into our date and kissing me. I needed an excuse.
"Ah, Xavier, this is Anthony." I introduced the two.
Oh this is going to be bad.
"I'm her fiancé." Anthony quickly cut in.
I can't watch! My inner self covered her eyes briefly before peeking through a finger.
"Ex!" I blurted out just as quickly. "He is my ex fiancé actually." I smiled sweetly at a still very confused Xavier. "What are you doing here?" I spat through clenched teeth as I tugged, discreetly, on Anthony's shirt.
"Ex?" Anthony frowned in confusion. "It was a silly fight babe, I thought I apologised for that? Or was the hundred long stem roses and that puppy not enough?" He bit down on his tongue to hide his smirk. Leaning forward towards Xavier he spoke quietly, "she is so demanding."
I opened and closed my mouth unsure of what to say. How had Anthony bested me? This was my date and I was quickly losing control.
"You're engaged?" Xavier asked me, ignoring Anthony's presence.
"No." I quickly defended myself.
"It's complicated. She always does this, breaks things off and then a few weeks later she is back at my door step." Anthony cut in again but his words hit Xavier hard.
"Thank-you for an interesting evening." Xavier stood up and collected his things before walking out of the restaurant, my eyes watching him as he walked away.
Turning back around to face Anthony's smug look of triumph I had to fight the urge to strangle him. I was hurt, actually hurt that he did that to me, that he humiliated me in such a way and extremely pissed off that he actually just invited himself in to my date? How did he even know I was here?
I glared hard at Anthony as his bright eyes roamed over my outfit, slowly taking in every aspect of the dress. "This is better, much better." He nodded in approval at my outfit choice.
"I hate you." I spat with all my hatred and frustration.
He smirked. "Don't be like that babe."
Scrunching up my face in anger I raised my hand stoping him from saying anything else. "No, don't you babe me!"
He chuckled, the deep sound of the laughter was oddly nice.
"None of this is funny."
"I think it is hilarious!" He tried to say as he attempted to reign in his chuckles. "So, um, how is that wedding ring working for you now?"
Ha! He just used your own words against you! Genius.
Excuse me, you're supposed to be helping me here, not him.
Oh right. Yeah my bad... that was still funny tho.
"This is different."
"It is exactly what you did to me today only I can play along better than you can babe."
"Don't call me babe."
He rolled his eyes and shook his head at me. "Come on." He stood up from his seat and fixed his suit before pulling out some money and placing it on the table, taking care of the bill.
"Where are we going?" I asked. I wasn't about to put up a fight, my ride home just left me.
"I'm out for a drink and you don't have a ride home."
Sighing deeply I got to my feet and followed Anthony over to the back of the restaurant where the booths were. He gestured me to sit down in one of the booths while he said his goodbyes to his 'friends' - who he didn't trust me to meet just yet as I was too much of a loose cannon. Sitting down in the booth I relaxed and enjoyed the illusion of privacy.
