《You Are My Heart》Chapter 16

When the woman came out of the abandoned apartment she suddenly stopped and stood there for a while. Her eyes were wide opened as she stood still, when someone accidentally bumped into her she glared at that person angrily, gritted her teeth, and clenched her fists. He sped off away from the woman. She was feeling angry again so she headed back into the abandon apartment. She needed to take it out on something so she thought of the pets she kept in that room and smiled. She merrily trod back to room 206 as she thought of all the things she could do to make herself feel better. Then her fists clenched and her brows furrowed as she remembered that girl was with Moonbyul. 'What is she doing with Byul-Yi? What? What? What? WHAT? WHAT?' The woman was fuming at the thought. She angrily stomped towards her target. She wanted them to feel pain, so much pain for being useless. She wanted them to wish that dying would have been better than living. They will pay for their failures.
When she got to the room she realized the book she placed in the drawer was now on the table.'Someone is here. In my sanctuary' she thought angrily as her face twitched. She scanned the room, eyes filled with hatred, with the thought of killing the perpetrator. She swiftly went to a box hidden in one of the corner and took out a taser and two knifes. She carefully stride closer to the backroom, being as quiet as she possibly could. She noticed the door was open. She was startled at the sudden buzzed and held one of the knife tightly in her hand. It was a phone call. When she heard the voice tears fell down her face. She recognized the voice to be Moonbyul. 'Why? Out of everyone in this world, why are you here? Why must you dirty your eyes with these things? But it's not my fault, they are all to blame. You wouldn't hate me right? You'd understand right? Yes, you would. You are here because you have realized we are meant to be. We can be together now. Yes be together, forever.' The woman wiped away her tears and smiled. Her lips were twitching as these thoughts continued to run rampant in her head. She approached the room. She tugged the knifes away and held the taser tightly behind her.
When she spoke out from behind Moonbyul, Moonbyul suddenly became silent. When she saw how Moonbyul was looking at her she felt her heart shattered. But she understood it was not Moonbyul fault, Moonbyul was just bewitched. The woman believed she could lift the curse on Moonbyul so she regained her happiness for a moment. When she heard Solar voice emitting through the phone she became angry. Her breathing became uneven, she looked as if she wanted to kill someone. She glared at the phone but tried to look as nice as she could when she looked back at Moonbyul. However, she couldn't control her facial expression so it was twitching weirdly.
As she approached Moonbyul, Moonbyul backed away. The woman was a little sadden that Moonbyul gave her a frighten look, but she understood it was only temporary. 'Moonbyul just need time away from the witch and her curse,' she thought. 'She will be herself again. She will look at me with that sweet smile again. She would be with me like before,' the woman smiled with her eyes opened wide. She walked slowly towards Moonbyul and asked Moonbyul some questions but receive no response. She gripped even tighter onto the taser, a tool that at least have some usefulness. She doesn't want to hurt Moonbyul that was why she tugged the knifes away. 'But taser won't hurt. Byul-Yi would just be asleep for a while' the woman smiled slightly at the thought. She wanted to be together with Moonbyul. She would treat Moonbyul like a goddess, she just need Moonbyul to stay by her side so she could make Moonbyul normal again.

With this determination she approached ever closer toward Moonbyul and pressed the taser against Moonbyul's side. Moonbyul gritted her teeth and let out a pained sound before falling onto the sofa. Moonbyul's phone slid away from her hand. As Moonbyul's vision became blurry, she could still hear Solar's voice calling out to her. She tried to reach for her phone to warn Solar. The woman slightly ran her hand on Moonbyul's hair and arm. Moonbyul felt a chill at the woman's touch. Moonbyul tried to call out to Solar but she couldn't find her voice. Her body felt heavy, slowly her vision vanished completely. When the woman heard Solar voice coming from the phone again, she picked it up, smiled evilly and threw it against the wall near the boy. At the boy reaction she laughed loudly. She laid her head down onto Moonbyul's arm and she felt a happiness and love that she never felt before. 'Finally we are together, I won't let you go' the woman smiled and closed her eyes to feel the bliss.
When Moonbyul suddenly became silence and didn't finished what she was saying Solar became worried. She tried to get Moonbyul to reply but it was in vain. Just then suddenly she heard an angry scream, but it wasn't from Moonbyul.
"Why do you like that girl and not me!?"
Solar started to listen attentively to see if she could hear anything else. She picked up some bit an pieces.
"I can do anything for you…You are mine…"
Just then she heard a buzzed sound and at the same time someone let out a pained sound, Solar was sure it was Moonbyul's voice.
"Byul-Yi, what's wrong? Byul-Yi, are you ok? Byul-Yi!" Solar screamed but still she didn't get any respond.
Suddenly a loud crashed rang out in Solar phone, and hung up her call with Moonbyul. She looked at her phone in disbelieved and shook her head in fear. She quickly dialed Moonbyul's number again and again.
"Pick up Byul-Yi, pick up!" Tears were falling down her eyes. "Nothing happened, pick up Byul-Yi. Tell me you're safe."
However, no matter how many times she dialed Moonbyul's number it sent her straight to the voicemail. She walked back and forth in the living room, feeling scared and freaking out. She couldn't think straight so she stood still and closed her eyes. She quickly calmed herself down enough to call Hwasa and Whee-In.
"Hey unnie, you two had enough cheesy happiness yet?" Hwasa cheerily teased.
"Listen," Solar spoke sternly.
"What's the matter unnie?" Hwasa spoke in a worried tone.
"Something happened to Byul-Yi. I don't know what but I need to go find her," Solar spoke angrily. "If she's hurt, whoever hurt her will pay. There's an abandoned apartment, that take about 20 minutes to walk, south of Moonbyul's apartment. You know the one?"
"Yes, it's been abandoned for a couple years. I believed it's called building D142," Hwasa replied.
"I need you to contact the police and meet me there. I'm going to head there first. I don't know what we will find there so be ready for anything," Solar continued. "Byul-Yi better be safe," she mumbled angrily to herself.
"Ok unnie we'll be there right away. Don't do anything hasty," Hwasa and Whee-In spoke in unison.
Solar hung up and grabbed her coat. She tugged her phone in the coat pocket and was about to head out the door when she stopped. She remembered the taser gun Moonbyul had just gotten for her. She turned around and grabbed it before heading out. She thought about taking the car but the traffic was as bad as always. She decided that going on foot would be faster. She ran as fast as she could heading south toward the abandoned apartment building, D142. It took her about ten minutes running and speed walking to get there. Hwasa, Whee-In, and the police weren't there yet. She waited for a couple of minutes but became impatient. She couldn't wait any longer for them knowing Moonbyul might be in danger.

Part of the building had collapsed some years before so there weren't much places that needed to be searched. People tend to avoid the area around this building because there was a chance it could collapse at any moment. Solar ran through the ground floor and looked through each room, there were no doors and some room had part of the back wall missing. In one of the room on the ground floor Solar found an old woman. She had some bruises all over and was tied up. Solar untied the woman and asked if she needed help. The woman just shook her head and looked sadden. Beside the bruises the old woman looked fine. Solar asked her a couple more questions but the woman didn't respond. Solar tried to help the woman up but the woman patted her hand and gave her a slight gentle nod. After looking at Solar for a little while, the old woman finally spoke.
"Thank you," the old woman paused for a second. "Are you here looking for someone?"
"How did you know?" Solar raised her brows.
"I saw her earlier walking by. I tried to call out to her but my mouth was covered so I couldn't warn her. She has long, ashen brown hair and her name is Moon Byul-Yi correct?" The old woman looked at Solar for a confirmation.
"How…" Solar became speechless at the woman accuracy.
"It's a long story," The old woman looked sad again.
"What do you mean by you wanted to warn her?" Solar asked seriously.
"She was following my daughter…" the woman hesitated. "My daughter doesn't want to admit it but she have a very serious medical condition. I tried my best to help her but she refused anything that I do. She became obsessive with your friend and I tried to stop her. I am to blame for not being able to be harsher on her," the old woman was crying as she spoke in a shaky voice. "I thought that having that child would help her condition but now I see that I was wrong. She made that little boy into a tool. When I realized what she wanted to do to the child I tried to save him but ended up here myself. I never thought she would harm a child. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have soften up my determination on her."
"A mother's love for her child is understandable. I'm in a hurry so can you tell me where my friend is at?" Solar spoke sternly.
"She's upstairs in room 206, my daughter is there as well…" The woman looked even sadder.
"Will you be ok?" Solar asked one last time.
"Yes, thank you," the woman nodded.
When Solar was about to dashed away the woman held onto her arm. "Please spare my child," the woman pleaded. "She doesn't understand what she's doing so please…"
"I'll try…" Solar answered uncertainly and dashed off to the second floor.
When she was running up the stairs Solar heard a faint laugh in the distance. She tried to run even faster. When she got to room 206, she saw a door down the hall slightly moved. She ignored it and ran inside the room. She got to the back door and saw a child and the two waiters who attacked her and Moonbyul before. She noticed Moonbyul's pictures were everywhere and her own picture being sliced up. Her clothes burnt and torn scattering on the floor. She also saw her 241st box of chocolate lid hung in the middle. She looked around but didn't see Moonbyul. She saw Moonbyul's phone broken near the child. When she came closer to him, the child fell to his side, hugged his legs, and started shaking. She didn't want to leave him but she have to find Moonbyul. She was torn on what she should do. Just then someone arrived.
Hwasa and Whee-In called the police right after receiving Solar's phone call. The police were a bit far away and traffic wasn't good so they might be delayed. Hwasa and Whee-In rushed off to the abandoned apartment, they drove about three fourth way there when they got stuck in a traffic jam. After a couple minutes of waiting and the traffic doesn’t seemed like it would get any better, they ditched the car on the roadside and ran the rest of the way. When they got there they met an old woman in the hallway. All she said was room 206 and they rushed there without questioning. They saw a red glow coming from a back room and went inside to find Solar and an unbelievable sight.
"What the…" Hwasa and Whee-In stared around the room in disbelieved.
"Good you're here," Solar immediately turned to them. "Take care of the child I have to go find Byul-Yi," Solar dashed off before Hwasa and Whee-In could answered.
Solar remembered seeing the door down the hall slightly moved so she went toward it, it lead upstairs to the roof. She touched her pocket to make sure that her taser gun was there and proceeded quickly up the stairs.
"You stay here, take care of the child and wait for the police I'm going to go after Yong-Sun unnie," Hwasa tapped Whee-In on the shoulder and was about to dash off after Solar.
Whee-In grabbed Hwasa's wrist and said in a serious tone, "Be careful." Hwasa nodded, gave Whee-In a quick peck on the cheek and ran after Solar.
Whee-In approached the child but she could tell he was really scared of anything moving towards him. She sat a distance away and sang a lullaby to calm the boy down. After a while the boy expression soften up and he began to doze off into sleep. Whee-In smiled but didn't stop singing for the little child.
When Solar got to the roof she was a little out of breath. She saw Moonbyul laying on the floor in the middle of the rooftop and rushed towards her. She got on her knees and held Moonbyul's face with her hands.
"Byul-Yi. Byul-Yi," Solar called while shaking Moonbyul but Moonbyul didn't respond. "What's wrong Byul-Yi?"
Solar placed her ear against Moonbyul's chest to hear her heartbeat. Solar sighed in relieve when she heard it thumping. She closed her eyes, placed her hand on her chest, and smiled. Just then quick footsteps rang out close by her and Solar felt a surging pain on her rib before she could see who was approaching. Someone had kicked her at full force. It caused her to land on her back holding her side in pain. Her phone and taser gun fell out of her pocket. She looked up and recognized the woman from the hospital. The woman's face was filled with anger and hatred. She was gripping a knife tightly in her hand. When Solar saw the knife she tried to grabbed the taser gun but the woman ran over, kicked it away, and knelt on top of Solar. Her knee pressed against Solar's chest and she swiftly brought the knife down. Solar grabbed the woman's hand with both of her own to stop the knife. The woman was gritting her teeth and using all her might to bring the knife down. It slowly but surely was getting closer to Solar's neck.
"I've been waiting for this day, when you will finally disappear forever and never bother Byul-Yi again," the woman smirked. "She will not be bewitched by you anymore!"
"You are the one that is bothering her. She loves me and I love her. And I would never hurt her but you did without hesitation," Solar angrily replied.
"No!" The woman screamed, "You are the one that hurt her! If not for you she would love me! I knew her first, she should be mine! I'm always there for her, if not for you…"
"She doesn't know you," Solar interrupted, "She doesn't like you, and she definitely will never love you!"
"Liar. Liar. LIAR!"
The woman angrily forced the knife down even faster and Solar tried her hardest to stop it. Just then Hwasa came through the rooftop's door and kicked the woman off of Solar. The woman landed close to Moonbyul, she got on one knee and glared at Solar and Hwasa. Hwasa helped Solar up from the floor.
"Are you ok unnie?" Hwasa looked at Solar and asked.
"I'm ok, thank you," Solar replied while meeting the woman gazed.
"How dare you?" Hwasa yelled.
Hwasa stared angrily at the woman and was about to approached when she stopped and backed away. The woman realized she was at a disadvantage so she placed the knife atop Moonbyul's chest at the location of her heart. She smirked when she saw Hwasa backing up. Solar angrily glared at the woman.
"What do you want?" Solar asked not taking her eyes away.
"I'll never give her back. She's mine! You can never have her, only I have that right. If I have to I will depart with her to another world, just the two of us. She will be with me forever." The woman caressed Moonbyul's face slightly.
"How could you hurt her?" Solar screamed wanting to charge over but she couldn't for fear that the woman would hurt Moonbyul.
"I'm not the one that hurt her. You all are the one that hurt her. She shouldn't have met people like you. If she didn't know you she wouldn't have been hurt!"
"You look here," Hwasa demanded, "Byul-Yi unnie would never like someone like you. She would never ever have any feelings for you. You will never be more than someone who had hurt her and the one she loved. She will never forgive you for it and for everything that you did."
"Shut up! Shut up! SHUT UP!" The woman fumed, "You!" She pointed to Hwasa, "You dare hurt me earlier and now you tried to get in between Byul-Yi and I," the woman glared at Hwasa. "You," she motioned to Solar, "Pick up that taser gun and shoot her or else."
"No!" Solar didn't hesitate in her responds.
"You dare defy me!?" The woman pressed the knife closer to Moonbyul's chest and it dug in a couple of centimeters, enough to draw out blood. "You see, she got hurt again because of you people."
"Stop!" Hwasa yelled and then she turned to Solar. "Unnie I can take it, it will be ok."
"But I can't do that to you," Solar shook her head and tears fell down her eyes. "I can't…"
"Hurry up!" The woman demanded.
"Unnie," Hwasa wiped Solar tears away, picked up the taser gun and placed it into Solar's hand. "It'll be ok. I can take it. Who am I? I'm Ahn Hye-Jin. Super Hye-Jin," Hwasa smiled to Solar. "I'll be ok, I promised."
Solar shook her head, "I can't make you go through that, Hye-Jin Ah."
"I told you to stop hesitating!" The woman screamed and cut Moonbyul's arm to show that she was being serious with her threat. She her bloody knife and smiled as she placed it back atop Moonbyul.
Hwasa growled in anger. Solar looked at Moonbyul with a worried expression, then glared at the woman with hatred in her eyes.
"Do it!" The woman demanded while meeting Solar's gazed.
Hwasa could tell that Solar was still hesitating so she grabbed the taser gun from Solar and before Solar could react, Hwasa shot herself on the right side. Solar caught Hwasa before she hit the ground and laid her gently down. Solar look toward the woman angrily as the woman laughed out loud.
"That was hilarious, she shot herself. I've never seen that before, what a spectacle. Why look so gloom?" The woman happily spoke, "It's now your turn."
Solar didn't respond, she only looked at the woman in contempt. The woman took out a spare knife and threw it close to Solar.
"Now then shall we play a game?" The woman smirked.

Then (more) dark again. Disclaimer: This story is an experimental project and I hope to get any and all feedback you can give me. Warning: First draft. Chapters tend to be between 3400-4100 words long (about 8-11 A4-pages). Mentioning it since I've seen it in other fictions :P Sometimes they're shorter, sometimes they're longer. ******************************** CHAPTER RELEASES UPDATE: As the first "book" in the series is done, I'm going to release coming chapters somewhat sporadically, and when Writathon ends, I'll probably go back to publishing one chapter per weekend. We'll just have to wait and see! I hope you enjoy the story! I really appreciate all comments and feedback, so if you have anything to say, feel free to voice it :) ************ [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

A Demon Lord's Reincarnation
Selina’s got a pretty active imagination. When doing math, she pretends that she is a great detective solving a heinous crime! Ordinary tasks, like a trip upstairs, turn into a perilous adventure to raid a dragon’s cave! She believes that life should be full of wonder and magic, and tries to force the world to cope with her conviction! But when Selina wakes up to remember her past life as the Demon Lord, she has to face the fact that real life is messy, and not anything like what she imagined. With ancient powers stirring, family problems, and the hectic life of a teenager, Selina will have to discover more about herself if she is going to survive the trials ahead. With the help of her best friend and a fair share of luck, she might just get through this alive. Maybe. (Updates (hopefully) on Sundays) This story started out as a flipped isekai. Instead of a hero being pulled into a medieval world, a Demon Lord is pulled into the modern world. It has since moved a bit beyond that initial premise but it is the foundation of the work. Along the way, I threw in dragons, elves, dwarves, and some vampires (but no werewolves, gotta nip that in the bud) all wrapped up in the political drama of a modern world. The story, however, will mainly focus on the characters and their development and as such, is a bit of a slow burn. It may take a couple of chapters to get into. You have been warned! (PS, please show patience for the author's notes. They're a bit crazy and don't always make the most sense. The author's a bit of a ditz. Please ignore him.)
