Chapter 1
9 months earlier
"Luna!" My best friend Marie Fitzgerald linked her arm with mine as we walked into the school. "Let's rule this bitch! I mean we're seniors, Lulu!" She smiled brightly, practically doing a happy dance.
"I'd much rather be in my bed." I groaned.
"You spent way to much time sleeping and reading. It's unhealthy."
"Don't forget eating! I do that a lot too."
I'm one of the girls that can eat a 12 ounce porterhouse steak and not gain a pound. It's what I love most about myself. Everything else is pretty average about me. I have boring brown hair that goes midway down my back and bland brown eyes.
Marie is like the opposite of me. Her hair is currently hot pink with black highlights. It constantly changes though. Like for example last week, her hair was black with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple highlights. I wish I had the guts to do something like that. She's an artsy girl. Her eyes are almost turquoise. It sounds weird, but I envied her. She pulled off her look well.
"Well, cheer up buddy! Oh! We should go mess with some freshies!" She jumped up and down excitedly. I tried not to smile, but her happiness is contagious. That is one of the reason I get along so well with Marie. She is such a happy and positive person. I am a realist. I look at things rationally, and let's just say the world isn't a positive place. Hence, I'm not a positive person. We balance each other out.
"Okay." I agreed.
She practically skipped down the hall. I had to jog to keep up with her, but I didn't mind.
"Need help finding where to go?" She asked a boy who was staring at his schedule, confused.
"Yeah, thanks." He sighed gratefully. I almost felt bad. "Do you know where Mr. Lawrence's English class is?"
"Yeah! Of course. It's on the third floor right next to the pool. Just walk straight until you see the band room. The stairwell is to the right of that. Once you get up there, you can't miss the pool. Mr. Lawrence's classroom is right across from that."
"Thanks!" He took off in the direction that Marie told him to go.
"Mimi!" I scolded her. "We don't have a pool. Heck, we don't even have a third floor! Plus, the band room is in the other direction!"
"Yeah, I know." She shrugged. "Remember when you were a freshie and you asked someone how to get to your classroom. You were looking around for a basement for over an hour!" She cracked up.

"Shut it." I grumbled.
*
I hate lunch on the first day of school.
Everyone is scrambling, trying to find their friends. Where and who you sit with is important on day one because chances are you're going to sit there the rest of the year. Lucky for me, I knew Marie has lunch this period.
"LULU LUDWIG!" Screamed a voice. I groaned and turned around, searching for my best friend. I finally found her. She was standing on a table, looking for me. I wove in in and out of people until I got to her.
"Get off the table, you dummy!" I yelled at her. She shrugged and hopped off the table.
Marie sat down and dug into her pizza. She's lucky that she didn't step on it when she was standing on the table.
I unwrapped my brownie and shoved half of it into my mouth. I was so hungry. For the one hundred and four days of summer vacation (according to Phineas and Ferb), I was able to eat when ever I wanted. I could wake up at four in the afternoon, eat a hot pocket, and go back to sleep. Now, I have to refrain from eating during lessens. Knowing that I can't eat, makes me hungrier!
"Jeez girl. The brownie's not going to run away, y'know?" Marie talked with her mouth full. Hypocrite much?
I flipped her off jokingly, but stopped swallowing the poor brownie almost whole.
"So, any hot guys in your classes?" She asked me.
"Just the usual. Why is it so hard to find a hot guy that isn't completely arrogant?" I took a gulp of milk. I mean, you can't eat brownies without milk, right?
"Babe, it's the circle of life." She answered trying to sound wise. I almost snorted milk out of my nose.
"Stop watching the Lion King. The circle of life is babies and dying."
"Whatever!" She waved it off.
"So what about you? Any cuties with great booties?" As soon as the phrase left my mouth, I cringed. Cuties with great booties? That's something Marie would say.
"Ooh! That reminds me. Jackson Jacobs moved back. Puberty did a pretty damn good job on him. He's all muscle-y and his butt is so... I can't even think of a word to describe it. Let's just say I want to bite it." She licked her lips suggestively. I scrunched my nose up in disgust.
"Jackson Jacobs..." I thought for a minute. "You mean Nerdy Jacky?" She nodded. "He was so scrawny when he moved away during freshman year!"
"Well, he's back. He is definitely not scrawny now. He looks like he's on freaking steroids. I saw him on a bike in a hot leather jacket. When I say bike, I don't mean the kind with pedals!"

My eyebrows rose. Jacky was not a bad boy at all.
"Are you sure it's him?" I asked, doubtfully.
"I talked to him. He remembered me too. Oh, he even asked about you."
Jacky was one of our friends. We were a trio. He was bullied so severely, that he felt the need to move away, reducing our a trio to a duo. We were the only ones he didn't mind calling him Nerdy Jacky.
Both Marie and I cried our eyes out when he said he wanted no contact with either of us.
"Little Jackie turned into a bad ass, huh." It was such a hard concept for me to understand.
"And he brought back friends. There's four new guys including him. All bad asses. All extremely hot." She reported.
Looks like this is going to be an interesting year. We could use some new eye candy around here.
*
I ran out of last period. I was supposed to be meeting with Marie to walk home, but my teacher held me back after class. She lectured me about chewing gum in her class.
I sped around a corner and ran straight into a freaking wall.
Great.
I took a step back and rubbed my forehead.
"You should really watch where you're going." Wow, the wall really isn't friendly.
The wall was a guy. He was around six foot three. His hair was pitch black, and his eyes were emerald green. If it wasn't for his attitude, I would say he's attractive.
"Well maybe you shouldn't lurk behind corners. People might run into you." I replied sarcastically.
He looked thrown off for a second. I smirked at the small victory.
"Do you know who you're talking to?" He spat at me. I took in his appearance. He wore black jeans, a white v-neck, and a leather jacket over it.
"An egotistical jerk who doesn't know when to shut up?"
"Let me guess, nerd? So sickeningly average, that it's weird? Scared of guys? Quiet? There's nothing special about you sweetheart." He smiled devilishly at me, thinking I would go and cry in the corner.
Ouch. "You should refrain from stereotyping. I'm not afraid of you or guys in general for your information." I answered confidently. It was true. Guys don't scare me. They don't make me stutter or make a fool of myself. That only happens in stories.
He took a step closer to me and pushed me against the wall. His body was aligned with mine. His head moved closer to me. For a second I thought he was going to kiss me. If he did, I would have bit his tongue. Hard.
At the last second he turned his head and whispered in my ear. "You should be scared of me." His hot breath almost made me shiver. To be honest, I wasn't quite sure whether the shiver was in disgust or not.
I pushed him off of me. "Way to be dramatic, asshole." I turned around and stormed off down the hall.
*
I met Marie outside. Her car broke down yesterday, so it's in the shop.
"Where were you?" She asked me.
"Got a lecture for chewing gum."
"Well, we're going to meet up with Jackson and the guys. They're waiting at the park."
She started walking quickly and I rushed to match her fast pace.
"Bad ass biker dudes are hanging at the park?" I snorted.
"Luna, maybe they're in the bad side of the park." She thought about what she said, before she started cracking up. I joined her.
"They're probably on the swings." We laughed.
We walked into the entrance of the park.
Four guys were sitting on the park tables.
I recognized Jacky at once. He was totally beefed up, but his face was similar.
"JACKY!" I screamed at him, ignoring his friends. He looked up from his phone. His face lit up when he saw me.
I ran at him and jumped into his arms. He swung me around. It was weird that three years ago, he couldn't even lift me, and now he could swing me around like a rag doll.
"Luna!" He put me down.
"Someone went to the gym." I teased.
"Just a couple times." He said all embarrassed.
"I've missed you." I thought for a second. "You know what, I'm kinda pissed at you."
His smile fell. "Why?" He kind of sounded like a three year old, who was told he couldn't have a cookie.
"You didn't want to talk to me. That hurts you know." I pouted. "We were best friends, you, me, and Mimi, and you just ditched us."
"I'm sorry. I just need time to figure shit out."
I gasped. "You cursed! Who are you?" I said dramatically.
He looked worried for a second before he saw me smile.
"Oh, my friends. This," he pointed to someone who had their back turned to me, "is Tate."
When Tate didn't turn around, Jackson hit the back of his head. He pulled out his ear buds and turned around. It was Wall Guy!
"Oh, for fuck's sake." He groaned.
