"Aren't balls made for the 1800s?" I sighed.
Molly scoffed at me as she lay her clothes on my bed. "You obviously do not know romance."
I grimaced. She was right though, I didn't know romance. I knew love, I loved my parents, I loved my wolf. But romance was a different kind of love. I've never been treated with that kind of care, and I doubt Phoenix would be the type.
It was six o'clock and Molly was in my room getting herself ready for the ball. The dress she chose for herself was a baby pink princess dress, puffy at the waist. She claims it's to hide her tummy rolls but even so, I knew it would look good on her regardless. I had yet to see my dress, it stayed hidden in the black dress bag and Molly hovered over it like a guard dog.
I stayed sat on my bed as she rummaged around her make-up bag for supplies. I was envious of her complexion. She had an olive skin tone so she didn't always look so ghastly pale like me, and she could pull off more colours than I since her eyes were a nice dark blue. My green was too bright and my skin too pale.
As she got ready I stayed watching the next episode of the vampire diaries. We were on season 4 now; we were slacking to watch them since I had training and she worked 4 days a week now.
"Ugh, why can't she just choose Stefan." She huffed. "Sire bond or not."
I frowned. "I d-dunno. I feel like she honestly does love Damon."
She gawped at me. "You'd rather she go for the manic, brooding alcoholic than sweet old Stefan?"
I rolled my eyes. "Stefan can be an arse too."
We spent the time of her doing her make-up bickering about the Salvatore brothers. Neither of us was winning and it was increasing the tension. But when the episode finished and she turned to me it vanished.
"You look great." I smiled.
She chuckled and smoothed her hair down. She had chosen to curl it, and it reached her mid-back in loose ringlets. She had purple eyeshadow and even some fake eyelashes. A pink lipstick kiss complete with shiny silver coloured jewellery.
It was fifteen minutes before 7 and she noticed too as she grinned at me. She took off her bathrobe and didn't care once for her nudity. I still wasn't used to the wolf culture of nudity and found myself looking away.
Once I heard the successful slap of pants against her skin I looked back. She stood at least in underwear this time as she shimmied on her dress. It had long puffy, translucent sleeves. The whole dress had a sheer pale pink layer over the top of the silk layer underneath.
I helped her button up the back, making sure the buttons were hidden. Coming round her front she gave me a huge smile and clapped her hands.
"I feel like a Princess." She giggled.
Her dress was large, but not overly. She made it work even if she had to grab at it to see her feet. Once she had heels on it would just skim the floor.
A knock on the door stopped her in her tracks and she smiled wider. "He's early."
Sean walked in a moment later and his eyes widened at the sight of his sister. He looked nice, dressed in black suit trousers and a dark green jacket with a white shirt and black tie. His feet were clad in black boots that clunked when he walked into my room.

I was surprised to see him so dressed up. The only times I've been near him he's either been shirtless or in joggers and a T-shirt with trainers. I was impressed. I could even smell some kind of cologne, the hit of it making my nose twitch to adjust. He was cleanly shaven, with no stubble on his jaw, only his buzz cut to prove he wasn't a hairless rat.
His attention turned towards me. "Why aren't you dressed yet?"
I had missed their conversation as I was too busy eying Sean. "I-uh-well-"
Molly clapped her hands. "Doesn't she look great though?"
Sean smirked as he eyed my head. "The hair suits you, but I dunno about the makeup. Makes you look like a girl."
I pouted, crossing my arms. "I am a girl."
His eyes twinkled. "I know, I know."
"Here, take this to your bathroom and put it on!" Molly squealed.
I took the dress bag finally, feeling the weight of the dress made me question what she had in mind. She slung some gold colour high heels at me and I eyed them suspiciously.
"You want me to break my neck tonight?" I asked.
She rolled her eyes. "Puh-lease. Go. Dress. Now."
"Yes, mother," I smirked.
As I made my way into my bathroom I reminded myself to check in with my parents. It had been a week since I last called them, making it a habit to do it every Sunday evening. Today was Friday so I must not forget.
I took a deep breath before hanging the bag on the back of my door. I closed my eyes as I unzipped it, afraid of the boisterous pink or red that may await me.
Once the zip reached the bottom I stepped back and took another deep breath. Opening one eye slightly I was taken aback and they both soon flew open in surprise.
It was green!
A dark green silky dress.
I was surprised but knew straight away that I loved it. I love green. I took off my clothes and my watch, also green, and pulled the dress out of the bag. Just as I went to admire it something clinked in the bag and I looked around the material to see lacy black underwear on a hanger with new tags.
I blushed to myself and pulled it out, leaving the dress on its hanger. I was gonna kill her but decided to put it on anyway. It was a black lace thong and a strapless padded bra. I felt uncomfortable in such gaudy fabric, used to my bralettes and briefs.
I avoided myself in the mirror as I took the dress out once again. It flooded out of the bag, and I had to hold it high above my head so it didn't touch the floor. Do they forget I'm only just over five feet tall?
I pulled the dress on, admiring the way it hung against my skin. Once it was on I zipped it up at the back, grateful for my flexibility. I took the bag off the door to look in the mirror I had hung there.
I don't know who I was looking at, but it wasn't Nova Hope James the Omega.
The dress was a dark emerald, silky green. It had spaghetti straps that led into a v neckline. It stopped at my waist, where the skirt began. It wasn't puffy like Molly's was, it just hung off my waist and hips and poured onto the floor. As I stepped I realised it had a slit on one leg that reached up to my left hip.

I covered my face with my hands and blushed to myself. I had never worn something like this, I wasn't sure if I was ready to broadcast myself like this. I lifted my head to eye the scarring on my arms, wishing to wear a cardigan of some sort to shield it. But Molly would tear it off my cold dead body if she had to.
I pulled on the heels, the four inches lifting me so that only a small trail sat left on the floor. I turned in the mirror, chewing at my lip as I debated how brave I was.
A knock at the door followed by Molly. "It's seven! Are you done?"
"Y-yeah..."
I heard her squeal and Sean cursed at her to shut up which made me smile. I looked at myself once more, encouraging myself with my eyes. I could do it. I could. I moved all the way here by myself, dealt with my ass of a mate and made a new friend. This... this was just a dress!
With that thought in mind, I opened the door and walked myself out. I must've been too confident because both of them stared at me. I hesitated in my next step, my hands out at my sides holding my dress up so it didn't trail on my carpet and I trip and die in these damn heels.
"What?" I whispered.
"Who the hell are you?" Molly grinned. "Where has my shy little baggy-clothed friend gone?"
I blushed and turned my head away from her in embarrassment.
"You look great!" She squealed again.
Sean growled at her volume and I turned to look at him. He grimaced at Molly before noticing my stare and softened his approach.
"You look amazing." He smiled.
I blushed deeper. "Thanks, guys. I feel... weird."
"You're like a princess, an elegant, sexy princess." Molly laughed.
Sean rolled his eyes but stepped toward me with something in his hand. "I got this for you."
A gold necklace hung from his large hands and I smiled in appreciation. He lay it across my neck and fastened it from behind. His fingers were warm on my back and I shivered, my wolf disliking the intimate touch from another male. In her eyes, only her mate should touch our neck.
"Still got your earrings in?" She asked.
I nodded and pushed my hair back to show her. She hummed in thought before walking over to my dresser and rummaging around. She strutted back over to me, hair grips in her fingers. Even in heels, she was still taller than me but I then realised she had put her six-inch ones on.
I felt her clip the sides of my hair back so that only a couple of baby hairs hung down my face.
"There. Now we can see you- no hiding." She smiled, rubbing my shoulders. "You're gonna be okay. You got Sean."
"Who you got?" I laughed. "You're gonna get drunk and go off somewhere."
She smirked. "Probably. But I do have a date. His name is Luka and he likes to swim."
I and Sean looked at each other and stifled a laugh. She frowned at us, her eyes darting between who she was going to scold, her hands on her hips.
"Oh whatever, you guys can kiss my princess ass." She stuck her tongue out.
I sniffled back the tears, fearful of ruining my make-up. She noticed and softened her stance, letting a small laugh fall from her lips.
"Seriously though, I do. He's gonna meet me at half-past as he has to finish up patrols for Alpha Titan's arrival."
The moment his name left her lips I sobered up. I would be seeing him for the first time in weeks, and I wasn't sure about it. I turned to look at Sean and he must've noticed my worried eyes because he wrapped his arm around my waist and side hugged me.
I'll be with you, don't worry. Say the word and we will leave if it's too much. He smiled.
I smiled at him in thanks and went to reply when Molly clapped.
"Let's go! We're already ten minutes behind schedule!"
"And you say you're not warrior material," I muttered.
She rolled her eyes at me, her bossy demeanour staying as she ushered us out of the bedroom. Sean helped me down the endless stairs as Molly took them like a pro.
"Why'd I have to live on the second-highest floor," I grunted as we reached the bottom.
Sean laughed before whispering. "Alpha wanted you close."
I grumbled a growl, Cel loving the fact her mate thought about her closeness. "If he did he would've claimed me by now."
Sean rubbed my hand with the arm that wasn't holding my elbow. "He's not gonna know what hit him tonight."
"Thanks for this, b-by the way. I've never f-felt so..."
He nudged me causing me to stumble in my heels. "Don't mention it. Your true potential was just hiding under all that hair. I can only feel sorry for the hacksaw that cut it off."
I pushed him back with a scoff but he only laughed as he leads me out the front doors. Molly's so-called date must've already arrived early because she stumbled off to a blonde man screaming his name.
I noticed a lot of wolves making their way to where the ballroom/meeting room was. Someone had put down a wooden path made from square planks and I realised it was so people in heels could walk along the grass. Thank goodness because I could barely walk on the hard floor anyway let alone grass!
We walked in silence and I turned to look at Sean once again. "I quite like this height difference now."
He turned his white-grey eyes to look at me. He was only about four inches taller now. He stood at six feet tall, so was nearly a foot taller before but these 4-inch heels helped a lot.
"I don't." He smirked. "I can't hide you as well."
We laughed together and continued the rest of the way. Once we reached the doors to the ballroom the wolves guarding the doors bowed for us to enter, muttering Sean's title. He tilted his head back in thanks and lead me inside.
Here goes nothing.
