I waited.

My heartbeat thrummed in my chest as she pushed herself closer to his body.

The blood was rushing through my skull, my ears ringing.

I glanced up at the moon, pleading with her to help me. Pleading with her for any sign that he would be okay.

She leaned back and her shoulders sank. "He's okay."

Relief flooded me like a tidal wave. I stumbled and fell onto my butt, my hands unable to hold my weight anymore. I felt my body flush with emotions, but the main one I settled on was a joy.

"He's unconscious though." She muttered.

My eyes blurred but I crawled back to his side. I lay one hand on his chest, the other coming to graze over his jaw. The mark I left on his shoulder was prominent and harsh. Deep red moon marks sat from my teeth, dried blood coating some of his skin.

I turned my attention toward the bullet wound. His veins had become prominent, harsh jagged lines that sat along his skin. The wound was dark in colour, but I could slowly see it healing over. The magic of being a Lycan I suppose advanced his healing right before my eyes.

My attention snapped to the side when Sean's grey wolf barked and growled. Behind him, the trees were consumed in flames, the magic border sealed off once more.

'We need to get out of here.' He snapped.

I nodded but glanced back at Phoenix. His eyes followed my movement, harshly setting on his Alpha. He shook out his fur before his bones began to snap and he shifted to his human form. He rushed over to Phoenix's head, shouting orders to another wolf to shift and help.

I watched with nerves as Sean hoisted him up by his armpits, and dragged him away from the oncoming flames. It wasn't long until my brother approached and grabbed hold of his legs. Together they carried him away, and after glancing at Imani, we ran after them, supplies in our arms.

I shrieked when a branch fell nearby, burning to a crisp and no longer full of life. So much death, so much pain. Trees were consumed in flames, wildlife ran for their lives, and their homes were destroyed.

I felt the tears stream down my face as we retreated, unable to escape the fire. It was summertime, the rain hadn't come in a week and everything was dry. So it erupted and spread like the wind.

Once we were at a safe distance, I collapsed to the ground. My skin was covered in ash and smoke, and some blood I wasn't sure was mine. I felt my body shake with fear and tears, unable to process how wrong this went. I was scared, but so hurt by the damage that had been done.

"We can't stay here long. They'll no doubt regroup and come for us." Sean announced through the crackling of the fires.

I rubbed at my skin, remembering I was still nude. I opened the bag in my grasp and pulled out one of the cotton dresses I had packed. It was light enough to carry, and unfortunately, it would get ruined with the filth on my skin.

I looked at the forest fire. I was thankful there was no wind, and the space we had vacated too was bare of trees. It was a small clearing, a small field, and the fire could not spread beyond its limits. I was grateful that it would be contained in that one area.

"How is he?" Sean muttered.

I looked up to see him crouched over Phoenix, thankfully dressed and no longer nude. Imani gave him a tight smile and sat on her knees.

"He should wake any minute. Nova's blood has worked well." She replied.

I breathed out a sigh, my heart calming its rapid pace. We waited in silence and I took notice as he began to gentle stir himself awake.

I shakily stood to my feet but found my head swimming. My knees shook from beneath me and I managed to catch myself before I fell. Footsteps rushed to my side and a familiar warm hand grasped my arm.

"Are you okay?" Pollux wondered. "Nova?"

I easily shook my head, swallowing bile. "We-we marked each other. I don't feel so good."

He cursed, muttering words I could not hear. When he spoke next, it was clearly in my ear, tinged with worry.

"In the middle of a battle? I'm sorry but that's reckless Nova, you don't know the consequences. Your body could be shutting down."

I went to shake my head but stopped when it made the dizziness worse. "I had to. The bullet-it was poisonous. It spread so-so quickly... I ha-had to do something."

He sighed, pulling me to his side. "Well...at least we know our blood works by drinking it."

I let out a sigh of agreement. We sat on the floor in silence, my head feeling heavy as it lay on his shoulder. His arm held me up firmly as the sounds of the surroundings gently vanished.

I felt myself growing tired, slipping into the comforting darkness of the back of my mind. Cel began to growl, bristling her fur and stomping her paws.

'Stay awake.' She ordered.

I whimpered. I don't know if I can. I feel so weak.

She whined, pacing. I tried to follow her advice, and lift my head to shake myself awake. Everything just felt sluggish, and my arms blurred before my own eyes. I could not hear anything but the whooshing of my breath; it was like I was underwater.

I was suddenly jerked into someone else's arms. My eyes flew open in defence as I failed to catch my bearings. The hands were warm and electrifying. My body filled with a buzz like no other. I blinked furiously, trying to see past the peach and brown colours in front of me. My tongue felt heavy, and I couldn't move my lips to talk.

Mumbling and shouts met my ears, the person holding me supporting my head as it fell backwards. I was gently moved, so I was lying down. The feeling of the grass felt strange; like I wasn't quite touching it. It felt wet, yet so so far away.

The mumbles got louder and I felt myself drifting away again, but the warm tingling caressed my face and jolted me out of it. I tried to lift my arm but I wasn't sure if I could. I couldn't feel anything except the weight of my tongue in my mouth.

A sudden warmth on my neck had me jolt, the pleasurable tingles felt like goosebumps along my skin. It disappeared quickly, not saying too long for me to enjoy it.

I moaned, my head falling back to the floor. I noticed the blur move and felt a slight pull as I was moved into a different position.

I wanted to swallow and lick my dry lips, and talk. I felt strange and alone, and nothing was making sense to me.

I dully felt more hands on me, holding onto my shoulder and jaw. Another brushed against my ear, and I wished to know who it was. I couldn't smell, see them, or hear them.

I felt fingers pry my jaw open and I was startled when something pressed against my mouth. A strange warmth began to fill my mouth, my tastebuds unable to pinpoint the metallic flavour. I had no idea what was going on but through the hazy field of my mind, I could only guess that it was blood.

As my mouth filled with the metallic liquid, the pressure moved away and clamped my jaw shut. A hand moved to my nose and fingers wrapped around it, so I had no choice but to gasp and swallow the possible, blood.

The hands were immediately moved away from me and I caught my breath; the only thing I could control.

What was going on? Was it blood? Who's blood? Why can't I see? Why can't I move?

My mind ran rampant with thoughts as I lay there, and I fought hard to surpass the corpse-like state I was in. I shook my head, harshly squeezing my eyes shut.

After a moment, my body began to feel strange. A warm yet jarring current flowed through my limbs, forcing my heart to increase from its slow pace. My chest heaved with exertion but I found myself feeling light and airy. My hands twitched and I rolled my head back as the powerful surge ran through me.

It lasted a while and I revelled in the power. I lust over it, craved the strength it gave me. When it began to reach the highest power I was suddenly dropped. My body hit the ground and I curled in on myself.

I raised my hands to my head as a large headache made itself known. I opened my eyes with a wince, only to find nothing but white. I turned, looking around but everything was endless white. The ground I sat on was white and the only thing that seemed to have structure.

Where was I?

My hands shook and I looked around nervously. "Hello? ...Pollux?"

No answer.

I shakily stood to my feet, grimacing as my joints clicked and groaned. I stumbled slightly but began to walk. I had no idea where I was going in this infinite abyss but hoped I'd find something soon. I was alone, but there was nothing here to hurt me. I was safe here.

Just as I went to take another step, I fell again. I shrieked as I hit the ground, my hands catching my fall. This time, I was met with a softer comfort. I pushed myself up to find grass beneath me and in surprise, I snapped my head up to study my surroundings.

I was in a field, a large, no, huge house stood in the distance. I blinked, rubbing my eyes as I stood to my feet.

Where was I now?

This was getting weird.

Was I dead?

I looked around, seeing no sign of life. I decided to head towards the mansion. It was old architecture, almost castle-like. Large turrets stood to the front, a grand staired entrance lay before me.

My bare feet led me through the tickling grass and clover. I kept my eyes focused on where I stepped to not fall again. I turned in my enhanced hearing, listening for any signs of life.

My feet hit a dirt track at the same time the smell of wood-burning caught my attention. I snapped my head up and found multiple wolves charging from the trees. Their fur was matted and dirty, their bones jutting out of their fur. Rogues.

I froze in my advance as they swarmed the house. Snarls and snapping of teeth came from the far side. The sound of people screaming met my ears and without a moment's hesitation, I ran my way over there.

I barged through the front doors, slamming my shoulder into the heavy wood. I came into a grand foyer that was filling with smoke. I coughed and let my ears guide me to the sound of screaming and crying.

I stumbled to a stop when I came to a back door that had been broken off its hinge. I looked around the dated kitchen, finding wooden surfaces and breakfast items thrown around the room.

A woman wailed and I snapped my head to the open door. I hesitantly walked my way through, crinkling my nose up as the smell of death and blood hit me all at once.

My mouth opened in shock as I found a battlefield. Wolves lay dead, blood coated the once flourishing grass and flowers. Fur battled fur, snarls and yelps filling the air.

The wailing woman was near me, and I tried to call out to her but found I had no voice. I walked toward her, to console her but my hand was unable to touch her. It was as though she wasn't there, I couldn't feel her body beneath my touch.

Her head darted up suddenly and stared right at me which caused me to leap in fright. Her green eyes narrowed, a low growl surfacing from her chest.

"Guards!" She shouted.

Men ran by me, charging into the house where she had been glaring. Her head moved back down to the man on the ground, tears coating her cheeks. The man was dying, his chest torn open from multiple bullet wounds. He had barely made it past the patio steps before he was brutally killed.

He gazed at her, his black eyes showing sorrow as his mouth fell into a frown. He reached a bloodied hand up and caressed her chin.

"Save the children." He mumbled.

She shook her head, a sob echoing through the hectic battlefield. "I can't lose you."

He smiled sadly. "It is my time. The children are the future, save them, my love. They need you."

She cried into his hand as it suddenly went limp and his chest rose with his final breath. My heart clenched for some unknown reason and I felt myself become overwhelmed with sadness.

The two guards came back and two small blonde-haired children ran into the arms of their mother. She hastily grabbed onto them, gently telling them that the man on the floor, their father, had passed and they needed to get to safety.

The children wailed, their backs shaking with sorrow. Their mother shushed them, taking their arms and pulling them through the battlefield. Guards darted to their protection, allowing them through without being hurt.

I hesitated, but being so drawn to the woman I decided to follow. I had no idea where I was so I may as well see why this woman was so intriguing.

I followed as she ran through the trees, and watched as she fell many times. Her heart was breaking, her chest heaving with exhaustion. The children cried for her, but I saw nothing but their backs as they tried to pull her to her feet once more.

Sudden wolves emerged and the Mother gasped before throwing herself into a defensive position. One lunged for her, the other for her children. I shrieked when she darted for the second, which meant the first had an open and latched its jaws onto her side. She wailed in pain and the children stumbled backwards in fear.

I felt my heart run erratically, nausea settling in my stomach. I felt scared, scared for the family with who I could not communicate. I stared up at the sky, finding nothing but the sunset.

This whole situation seemed weirdly... familiar.

The air thrummed with electricity and before I knew it the two wolves dropped dead at the Mother's feet. I turned to see a portal open and Gaia stepped through, a small black-haired child at her side.

I staggered forwards to try and talk to her, but my tongue gave deaf whispers to the wind.

"Who are you?" The Mother cried, clutching at her side.

"I am a witch. My name is Gaia, and this is my daughter Raven. I saw you were in grave danger, and you are...going to die, dear." She smiled sadly, leaning over to hold the Mother's hand.

The Mother shakily inhaled and shook her head. "My babies-they need me."

Gaia glanced at the blonde children, her eyes glowing with promise. "I can help you, dear, I was called here for a reason. The enemy... they have a witch and-"

The forest suddenly cracked with life and the trees erupted in flames. The two children shrieked, jumping to their mother. She gasped in pain, her body unable to hold itself. She fought through it, pulling herself to her feet.

"Let's go."

The group of them began to hastily walk away into the trees. Gaia took the boy's hand and I found myself drawn to the girl. Her long blonde hair was plaited down her back, her pale skin encased in pyjamas. They were covered with small pictures of Winnie the Pooh and it struck a strange feeling of familiarity within me.

This couldn't be... could it?

There was a loud crack and groan as a tree suddenly began to fall to the ground. The Mother, slow in her movements, was able to push the young girl to the left but the tree collapsed onto her. The children screamed, wanting to run to their mother but the flames had encased the tree and slowly began to cover her already deceased life.

I couldn't see through the smoke but I saw Gaia running away through a portal, the boy passed out in her arms. The young girl I knew as Raven suddenly turned before it closed, staring right at me. I gasped as pain struck through my chest and her eyes met mine. She could see me. But how?

The portal vanished in a zap of energy and I stumbled away from the choking fire. My attention was drawn to small cries and I crawled my way around the burning trees to find the young girl.

She was also on her hands and knees, wailing for her mother. She crawled towards her Mother sobbing for help and forgiveness but the fire lit up her pyjamas as though they were paper. I went to shout and to run and grab her but I couldn't. I was glued to the spot, forced to watch.

My chest heaved with pain and fear, my heart aching that no young girl should ever have to endure this. Her father and her mother were brutally killed, and the pain of the fire, her loneliness and fear of death...

She screamed and wailed, her small hands clutching at the material. She tried to pull them off but she wasn't strong enough and flames travelled up her legs. She fell to the floor, crawling away as she began to panic. She crawled so fast, despite the fire licking at her skin.

I watched her from a distance, watched as she found a river about forty feet away. She fell into it, the water deep enough that she disappeared. I was sobbing, clutching at my dress in fear. I was terrified for the girl, my pain as equal to hers as my arms began to tingle.

I looked down at the scarring on my arms, tracing the pattern with my eyes. This was all too coincidental. I was terrified. This couldn't be, could it? How is this possible?

The small girl suddenly surfaced and grabbed onto a nearby broken tree branch. It was sufficient to support her, the water gentle enough to let her crawl upon it. Her blonde hair was matted and covered in dark smudges. My heart broke as she sobbed, her skin was bloody and oozing. The once pale perfect tone was marred with harsh black and red tones. I wanted to grab her, to hold her.

She was gently rocked as his cries quietened and I knew she was close to passing out. Her face finally turned to me in a final glance towards where her mother lay burning. I froze at the recognition, my heart stuttering in my chest and my mind becoming as hazy as it was before I fell.

Because through the smoke, the haze, the death and pain I felt...

I could see nothing but her green eyes.

Nothing but me.

Early update since I left you in such a terrible cliff hanger... But this.

This was a chapter I could wait to write. I hope you felt the pain, I hope you felt the sadness. I tried to portray what I could, so you can understand as much as I wrote.

But I hoped you were as intrigued as I was...
