《Unfinished》16. Cadenza

A big typhoon destroyed the roof of the 2nd floor of Kento's family home. Since his accident, Kento had been relegated to the first floor. However, because of the repairs that needed to be done to their house, it was decided that he stayed with Leah first while his parents moved in with Ate Ai.
The pool house across the garden was a one-bedroom cottage with a kitchen and bathroom. It had plenty of space for Kento to use his wheelchair in. Weeks after meeting Raffy, Kento's attitude was slowly returning to normal. He willingly accepted the challenges of his condition and was more determined to become independent again. A few months later, he gained more control of his upper body and arms. Kento could now slowly walk with a walker but still mainly moved around with his wheelchair. He also returned to work at the clinic and started taking sign language lessons.
Part of Kento's salary after returning to work went to purchasing a keyboard. They needed to sell the piano they had at home to add to the repair of the roof and house. He would often play music after work to unwind.
---
"Uuwi na sina Daddy at Mommy" Leah whispered into Kento's ear. Leah had just come down from showering after picking Kento up from work.
"Hmm. Ready na kaya yung assisted living quarters dun sa malapit sa ospital?" Kento said.
Leah, who was straddling Kento's lap and interrupting his piano playing, pulled away and looked at him. "Ano?"
"Nakakahiya sa parents mo."
"Not at all. They know that you're staying here and your parents are with your sister."
"Then let me pay for rent then"
"No. Save your money."
"But..."
"No buts. Sinong mag-aasikaso sa yo kung dun ka titira?"

"Eh di ako...I can manage." Kento smiled. The one-bedroom house where he was staying now was very neat and organized.
"Ah basta." Leah insisted. "Ayaw mo na sa akin? Di mo na ako love?" Leah pouted.
"Asus! As if..." Kento giggled and pulled Leah closer.
They kissed. Leah pressed her body more against Kento's as they caressed each other. They had learned how to adapt to Kento being in a wheelchair so Leah clipped her legs around Kento's midsection and wheelchair back so that he could maneuver the chair to the bedroom. Once there, Leah hopped on the bed and Kento transferred to the bed, too. Leah lifted Kento's shirt and they continued kissing. The smell of shampoo and soap aroused Leah even more. It had become routine for them to both shower when they got home from work. Most of the time, and especially when Kento's mood improved and he was like his old self again, this was their 'unspoken signal' that they were willing to be more intimate. Kento also helped Leah out of her shirt and he began massaging her plump breasts. As he slowly lowered his head to kiss her neck and upper chest, Leah moved up so that Kento could kiss her breasts. She did this knowing that Kento wasn't strong enough to move his body on his own. His fingers found her sweet spot and he began to pleasure her. When Kento got over his GBS, they were concerned if he lost his sexual abilities and if it was transmissible thru sex.
"No, it isn't transmissible thru sex." the doctor explained. "Even if there is still no known cure for the disease, it has been determined that having sexual intercourse does not pass on the disease from mother to child or from partner to partner. Besides, although your nerves were affected by the disease, lowered sexual function is often caused by trauma or injury to the spinal cord, which you don't have."

Leah also pleasured Kento until his penis was hard and ready. He rolled on his back while Leah straddled and positioned herself on top of him. Soon, they found their rhythm and peaked almost at the same time. They rested and cuddled until Manang Yolly called for them to have dinner.
"Dito nalang tayo...dinner in bed..." Kento said, tightening his embrace on Leah.
Leah laughed. "Di ka pagod?"
"Ako pa!" Kaya pa ng ilang rounds. Besides, weekend naman na. Dito ka matulog, ha?"
"Okay" Leah said, getting up to get dressed.
---
"Magiging sweet din kaya si Dodong sa akin?" Gina, the young helper gushed while they watched Kento and Leah feeding each other.
"Kayo na ba?" Ate Becky nudged Gina. Manang Yolly looked at them in disbelief.
"Hindi...pero ang sarap siguro ng pakiramdam na may nag-aalaga at nag-aasikaso sa yo no?" Gina said dreamily, resting her chin on her palm.
"Ganyan nila ka-mahal ang isa't isa..." Manang Yolly said after a while. "Nung kelan lang, ang sungit-sungit ni Kento kay Leah."
"Ay oo! Ilang beses kong nakikitang umiiyak si Ate Leah sa kwarto nya..." Ate Becky said.
"Eh ganun din naman si Ate Leah nung naaksidente sya, diba?" Gina said, recalling the time when Leah had an outburst when one of the helpers fiddled with the stereo in the kitchen.
Manang Yolly added. She had been with Leah's family since Leah was in grade school.
---
Kento shuffled slowly across his living room. He usually did this after Leah had gone to sleep, timing it when she switched off her bedroom lights which could be seen from Kento's window across the garden. Kento was more determined to get back to his normal self. Secretly, he was gaining more control of his lower body while he continued to strengthen and improve his upper body and fine motor skills. Leah's birthday was coming up so he wanted to surprise her.
Kento picked up his phone from the coffee table in the living room. He checked his socials and messages and found an invitation to audition for a benefit dinner concert at the hospital where he worked. Kento read the details of the accompanying email and made mental notes about it. He then texted his friend, Myke, who sent him the email. Myke would help arrange for Kento's audition and possible performance if accepted. Leah had not met Myke yet so Kento's secret and plans were safe.

Earth was overtaken by the Calumnia ten years ago and if it weren't for the alien Occisio race who saved the remnants of humanity, Indi's race would have gone extinct. Now, at the age of sixteen, Indi and the other surviving children are about to complete their training and return to Earth to kill the monster that destroyed their world and killed their parents. However, the children on the Occisio's spaceship have been dismissed one by one in training tests and only a few of them remain. Will Indi prove himself skilled enough to become a soldier? The Designated: Out of Control
It happened quicker than anyone would have imagined. Multiple hurricanes were one thing. People had dealt with that in the past. But, like kids playing dominoes, one thing crashed into another. Areas affected by hurricanes needed resources all along the Gulf and East Coasts drew rescuers and resources away from other parts of the country. When wildfires lit up the Pacific coast and mid-west, those areas were already understaffed. Driven by hurricanes in the Pacific basin, uncontrolled wildfires burned through towns, destroying everything in their paths. Across the Pacific, Asia didn't escape. From the Philippines, across China, into Indochina, and Bangladesh and India. Typhoons and cyclones pounded the coasts and far inland. Widespread flooding forced millions from their homes and across international borders. Mexico was hit hard and thousands died in mudslides as Katia slammed into their East Coast. The refugees fled north and west. Rumours started that hundreds of thousands were headed for the US border. Instead of running out of steam in the southern US, several hurricanes tore up the eastern seaboard, devastating cities and renewing their strength before veering east across the Atlantic. Maria and Ophelia veered east and slammed into Europe, reaching as far as the Netherlands and Russia before finally dissipating. After that, too many weather stations were offline to provide any form of co-ordinated information or warnings. Wildfires in Portugal burned ahead of the storms, fanned by hurricane winds. They sparked wildfires leapfrogging across Europe, beyond any one country's ability to cope. Already uneasy from multiple terrorist attacks over the summer, anti-refugee groups seized the opportunity to stage protests across Europe. Some turned violent as they clashed with police forces. Several governments declared martial law to quell the rioting and enforce evacuations along the path of the storms. Rumour and speculation overwhelmed facts. Unrest spilled over into widespread violence. Then sickness broke out in the displaced populations. Within a matter of a dozen weeks, tens of millions died. In the coming winter months hundreds more would follow. The Designated Project was activated.
