He smiled brilliantly as he ran back towards the elevator, his heart beating out of his chest at what he was about to do.
He pushed the back elevator button and waited patiently. Just as the doors opened and he was about to walk in, he stops dead in his tracks.
"Hey! There he is, FP!" A very intoxicated Ben steps out of the elevator with Gladys beside him.
"Oh, hey, nice to meet you." He shakes Ben's hand, his mind completely out of it.
"Where were you going?" Gladys questions, leaning in to peck a kiss on his lips.
"I was Uh-I was going to-uh, where were you guys? I was going to look for you guys. What-what happened?" He breathes out.
"Fred, gave mouth to mouth to a sheep!" Gladys giggles. "And then we had a few drinks."
"It was a very different experience." Ben chuckles.
"And we've been talking about how amazing this trio has been, and how amazing you are. And that if the kids and I haven't kept you so busy, that you might've had the time to do something you've been thinking about doing?" Gladys smiles shyly, raising an eyebrow at a confused FP.
"One ringy-dingy." Ben smirks, holding up his ring finger and pointing to it.
FP lets out a sigh. "Uh- yeah, you told her about that?"
"I don't need you to get me a ring, FP. Let's just get married, right here!" She exclaims, intertwining their fingers.
"What now?" FP stares at her with wide eyes.
"Why not? We're in Hawaii! Let's do it tomorrow." She bites her lip softly. "I mean this has felt so special from the moment we first met, and I have seen the way that you are with the kids and it is exactly the way I always imagined my husband to be."
"Oh, haha wow-" he breathes out, she connects their lips again in a soft kiss.
"I don't wanna wait! I just want to start my life with you." She tilts her head to the side.

The elevator doors suddenly open again, revealing a grinning Alice who stops dead in her tracks as soon as she sees the couple. Her eyes are wide and her mouth gapes open slightly, as all of their heads turn to her.
"Hi!" Gladys smiles.
"What-I- hi, everybody!" She exclaims flustered. "Fred, there you are! I have been looking everywhere for you." She makes up an excuse.
"For me?" He drunkenly asks her.
"Yes! come on, let's go." She says, standing in between the elevator doors.
"No way, we can't go now!" He responds excitedly.
"What, why?"
"FP and Gladys, are getting married tomorrow!" He jumps around excitedly.
She felt like she had just been hit face first with a door. Her heart sank to her stomach at the news she was told, she couldn't help the bewildered stare she gave FP.
"What?" Their eyes connected, a hint of pain behind them both.
"Yeah-yeah we are, but I mean- what-what do you think?" He nervously rambles.
"W-what do you mean, what do I think? I-I mean what does it matter what I think? I think that's-" she pauses for a few seconds. "Great!"
"Thank you so much, Hermie. I really hope you can be there tomorrow." Gladys tells her.
"I can't! It's really- it's actually bad luck for the ex to be at the-" the elevator doors suddenly start closing on her, causing her to let out a groan as they hit her "wedding."
That's just how it felt right now, like the worlds doors were closing on her.
"Come on Fred, let's go." She tries again, desperate to get out of that situation.
"What? Where are we going?" He slurs.
"We're gonna have the sweet sex!" She bribes him.
His eyes grow wide. "What? We? Okay."
He finds his way beside her in the elevator, just as she presses the button for their floor.
"Congratulations." She tells them just as the doors start to shut on them.
Alice and FP's eyes connect once more, the hurt even more visible as she gave him a sad smile.

They had all made their way to bed, except for Gladys who was trying on all of her dresses, trying to find the perfect white one for tomorrow.
Alice laid awake, her thoughts heavily weighing in her mind. She thought he felt that spark too, maybe she just read too much into it.
What she didn't know, was that FP was awake too, thinking over everything that had happened in his head. He couldn't sleep, all he could think about was Alice.
He carefully snuck out to the balcony with his cell phone and decided to call her.
"Hello?" She answered after two rings.
"Hey, you up?" His raspy voices sent shivers down her spine.
"Hi, yeah. Glad you called." She lets out breathier than she intended.
"Are you?" He questions.
"Um-" she knew she screwed up with that comment, so she decided to mask it with something else. "Yeah, I was just checking for flights for you parents tomorrow and I-I found-"
He interrupts her. "No, you don't have to do that. Her parents aren't coming in either, she wants it to be kind of elope-y."
"Elope-y, got it." She confirms. "Okay, so uh- are you all set for what you need to wear tomorrow?"
"Do you think this is a good idea?" He frowns.
"What? The wedding?"
"Yeah, the wedding... just the entire Gladys thing." He sighs.
She lets out a choked laugh. "Well, that's the whole reason we came out here, right?"
"I guess... you don't think it's crazy?" He taps his fingers on the railing anxiously.
She sighs, wanting to tell him that it is. Want to tell him that she thought there was something between them. But of course, she decided against it. FP liked the younger girls, she was no where near that. She couldn't give him what he wanted.
"FP, you don't need my permission. Okay? You're a big boy." She whispers gently.
"I-I know, I just... I know that if I do this then things could just get weird between you and me in the office." He admits.
"Well, you're not gonna have to worry about that." She assures him, a hint of regret lacing her tone.
He's hit with the realization of what she means. "You're going to New York, aren't you?"
The pain in his voice makes her heart break. "Yeah, I just, you know- I mean as much as I was looking forward to you-uh- reconstructing my face-" she jokes trying to lighten the mood. "-I-I really just need to start fresh, you know?" She whispers, so he can't here her voice break.
He stays silent, shaking his head as he forces his tears back. This wasn't suppose to happen. He wasn't suppose to fall for Alice, she wasn't suppose to take that job in New York, none of this was suppose to happen.
"Hello? Are you there?" Do you understand?" Her voice snaps him out of his thoughts.
He lets out a deep sigh. "I guess."
"It's an awful lot of guessing coming through this phone." She starts. "I've been divorced, I have two kids, I don't have time for guessing." She painfully tells him.
When he doesn't answer, just place his head in his hand she decides to end it there.
"You've got a big day tomorrow Jones, all right? So why don't you just, get some sleep?" She doesn't wait for a response, just simply hung up her phone and set it on her nightstand.
He stands there as he heard the line go through and shuts his eyes. He was loosing her.
She laid back down on her pillow as a single tear escaped her eye. She rolled her eyes, and frustratedly wiped it away just as her daughter came into the room.
Betty climbed into bed and cuddled up next to her mother, who smiled gratefully at her daughter as she wrapper her arms around her.
And there it was, another perfect reason as to why FP wouldn't want her. She knew it, she just hoped her find that out soon too.

The Good Crash: An Oral History of the Post-Scarcity Collapse
"Don't we all feel, deep down, that we deserve the apocalypse?" APRIL, 2028—Global capitalism has collapsed. America has sealed itself off from the outside world, and inside its borders, a revolution rages. All it took was one incredible little machine. That machine turned into two, then four, then eight... like a virus, the replicators spread. As a work of oral history, The Good Crash features over 50 interviews with key witnesses to the events of 2027. The text is rendered in the words used by the interviewees themselves, with light editing for clarity and concision. As such, the book contains language and themes that are not appropriate for children.By capturing the voices to the people at the very root of the revolution, journalist and historian R. Vondersnitch has traced the origins and aftermath of the replicators' rapid spread. Crucially, the book also includes perspectives and testimony from those who attempted to stop the spread of the reps. "Some of these are heroes, too, in their own ways," the author writes in the book's introductory note.
