《second best // dnf》23. Panic

Ezra crouched down to pick it up, but I crouched down first so he stood back up straight. I stood up too. My head was directly in line with his. We were very close, I could feel his breath on my face. I was about to hand him his phone back when he unexpectedly grabbed my collar and pulled me towards him. His lips connected with mine. Ezra kissed me.

I pushed him away, and whisper-shouted, "What the hell are you doing! Get off of me!"
Ezra reached out for me again but I shoved him out of my way, "Get the hell away from me you creep!"
He stared right at me, his eyes boring into my soul.
"You do not deserve George!" I cried, "I'm gonna tell him and he's gonna find a way better guy than you, you piece of shit!"
"If you tell George, I'll tell your fans that you kissed me," he grinned, cockily.
I raised an eyebrow, "And why would my fans believe you?"
"I have evidence," he said, gesturing to his phone. A video was playing: we were kissing. Suddenly, my legs swayed beneath me and the air was knocked from my chest. If that video was posted, George would hate me, Sapnap would hate me and so would all of my fans.
But, should I lie to George?
I went and found Badboyhalo and asked him if we could go home now. So, we got into his car, and headed back to my house.

I was exploring through the cupboards to find George's pills. Eventually, I found them and ventured into the kitchen to find him.
In the kitchen, I saw George holding onto a white envelope. His face was ghostly pale and he seemed to be trembling slightly. I walked over to him and put a hand on his shoulder.

"Uhh George, are you okay? You don't look so good..."
He nodded slowly, still reading the letter.
I asked, "Do you want some water?" and he said very quietly, "Yes please."
Hurrying off to get him some water, I left George in the kitchen. Then, returned with a glass of water moments later. He was still stood in the exact same place.
I handed him the glass. "There you go."
Then, I heard my phone ringing from the other room, "Hold on George," My mum was calling. I answered the call and started talking to her. We spoke for about three minutes, until I heard a smash of glass.
"Hang on mum." and I hurried to the other room.
George was stood, leaving against the sofa, his glass cup shattered on the floor. Beads of sweat were forming on his forehead, and he was trembling a lot. I rushed to his aid and he collapsed as I approached him.
His breathing was quick and shallow. George was on the floor, running his fingers shakily through his hair, emitting strangled breaths.
I was scared. "George are you okay?" but he didn't answer. Now he was crying, tears streaming down his flustered cheeks.
Panicked, I hung up on my mum and called Dream.

I thanked Bad for the nice morning, and climbed out of the car, when my phone started ringing in my pocket. I pulled it out, Sapnap was calling.
"Sapnap what do you want? I'm literally in the driveway-" he interrupted before I finished.
"Dream please come home! It's George! I'm really scared!"
"George" I thought.
Dropping my bags of food, I bolted inside the house. They were nowhere to be seen. Panicked, I rushed upstairs, to be met with Sapnap rubbing circles on George's back as George cried.

I sprinted over to George, dropping onto my knees. I reached out my hand to touch him, but he flinched from my touch, pressing his back into the wall behind him before standing up and running off to his bedroom.
"Dream what's going on with him?" Sapnap asked, his voice full of fear.
"I think he's having a panic attack," I replied, "I used to have them a lot as a teenager."
"What are we supposed to do?!"
I quickly went to his room, knocked three times before entering, "George I'm coming in... alright?"
Gingerly opening the door, I immediately saw him curled up on his side on the bed. I slowly reached forward and took his hand between my own. Sapnap then burst into the bedroom with us. George's eyes widened and he yanked it away from me and choked out, "Don't touch me! Please!"
We both turned to face him. He was breathing fast and sobbing, his cheeks were sodden.
"George," I said but he ignored me, "George," I said more sternly and clicked my fingers. His attention snapped to me.
I stared into his brown, teary eyes. I suffered from panic and anxiety attacks a lot when I was younger, and my mum used to distract me from whatever I was panicking about.
"George, um how many fingers am I holding up?" I showed him three fingers.
"Leave me alone, I'm fine, just please!" he cried.
He was hyperventilating now. And I too was getting worried.
Sapnap voiced, "Calm down George, you need to calm down!"
I frowned at him and snapped, "SAPNAP for God's sake don't say that! That's literally the worst thing you could possibly say!"
He looked taken aback and he blurted out, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I-I didn't know!" I don't know whether it was directed to me or George. He stumbled backwards, completely horror-stricken.
I got George's attention back to me and I said softly, "George, keep your breathing in time with mine. Deep breaths."
I took a deep breath in, then out and George followed my patterns. After doing this for a few minutes, his quick breaths calmed to more slow and controlled ones. Though he still looked very pale.
He was more relaxed now, so I leaned forward and hugged him gently. He accepted the hug, still sniffling. I held his shoulders,
"Are you okay now?" I probed and George nodded silently, "Are you gonna be okay if I go for a bit?" he nodded wordlessly again, sunk down into the covers and slipped into unconsiousness.
"I'm gonna go make us all some lunch," I announced and left the room, Sapnap tagging along behind me. As soon as we shut the door behind us, Sapnap burst into tears.
"Woah, woah. Sapnap... what's wrong?" I said softly rubbing his back, comfortingly.
He stammered, "It's... It's nothing I'm just being a baby, I was so scared, Dream, I- I've never seen him like that before..."
At the bottom of the stairs, we found a white envelope. We both knew we shouldn't read it but it clearly caused a hella lot of trouble for George.
I gasped as my eyes trailed along the words, reading them in shock. It was George's medical bill: 5678$.

Rage: Crisis / Consequence / ???
Its been ten years since Seth was given his powers, ten years since his town was driven mad by that very same power, and ten years since its source was shunted into his head. A species of energy beings, a people filled with regret for what their entrance onto this world caused. Regret for the deaths that town perpetuated, the devastation they brought, the blow they served to the once proud heroes of this world. Heroes Seth now hopes to join, hopes to heal and atone to for what transpired. But their wounds run deep, their ire sharp, and their acceptance thin. And to top it all off... Seth's power is run far deeper than he knows, and sees his world in a light all its own. This series is my first foray into authoring, with two parts out of at best four if the readership stands. But part three will still book end nicely otherwise. And I'm not stopping till then. It is action heavy with varied and ramping up fight scenes through out. (Book 1 is heavy / Book 2 a little lighter) It is bloody in places, mildly gory in others, and heavily gory in simulated places. Nothing truly horrifying, I think, but be warned. It has trauma. PTSD is a major part of the story, but I will never trust that I got it completely right, so your mileage may vary on how believable or impactful it is. Lastly it has language. Swearing ebbs and flows as the story progresses and attitudes harden or soften. Sometimes bleeding through into the narration... somehow.
