《My Brother's Best Friend✔️》14-

RECAP:
"Of course not! But you don't always need to be a fucking hero Ashton!" She yelled at me before disappearing into the crowd.
I sucked in a deep breath and raked a hand through my scruffy hair.
Glancing at the distressed boy in front of me, I knew what we would need to do.
"Ecoute, je ne sais pas qui tu es bordel, mais je m'en fiche. Vous m'aiderez à la retrouver et je la ramènerai à la maison. Après ce soir, je ne veux plus revoir ton putain de visage. D'accord?"
("Look, I don't know who the hell you are, but I don't care. You will help me find her and I will bring her home. After tonight, I don't want to see your fucking face again. Okay?")
The journey back home wasn't a long one, however due to the huge properties that sat along the busy road, it was necessary to take the car.
Maisy and Becca talked quietly in the back seats for a moment but as soon as the engine started, Becca's head slipped down the window and her tired eyes effortlessly closed.
I felt reassured that she finally got some rest, even if it was only for 5 minutes whilst we sat in a long line of traffic.
I had to let some air into the car due to the undeniable strong aroma of alcohol. However, the warm breeze didn't have any effect to calm my racing thoughts.
Maisy opened up her phone and began endlessly scrolling when I decided to stick some music on.
I leant my arm on the base of the window and allowed my head to sink into my hand.
The song 'Roslyn' by Bon Iver and St. Vincent began to play throughout the breezy car and I let out a large sigh that was long overdue.

With the night in full swing, the only light was from the series of red carlights that snaked around the road..
A comfortable silence filled the car, along with the low rumble from the engine.
Lightly pressing my foot on the pedal , I revved my car back to life as we inched forward to close the gap with the van in front of us..
As the lyrics were added to the melody, I took comfort in the sadness of the words.
With one hand gripping the steering wheel and the other remaining on the window edge, the car continued to agonizingly slowly creep forward in the queue. Luckily, It wasn't long before we escaped the line of traffic as we arrived at the house and pulled into the driveway.
Turning off the ignition, I shuffled backwards into my seat and shut my eyes, appreciating the new feeling of relief that it brought to me.
My chair dipping slightly caused my eyes to shoot open, revealing Maisy climbing into the front of the car and positioning herself in the passenger's seat.
She glanced back at Becca who was peacefully curled up in a ball against the clear glass.
When she looked back at me, she inched towards me and spoke in a hushed voice.
"I like her. And I see why you do too." She spoke truthfully.
I offered her a half smile before she put a ring-coverved hand through my hair and roughed it up. She then opened her car door and hoped out onto the stone tiles.
"Don't you want me to drop you home?" I asked. I was planning on taking Becca back first as she obviously needed to get to bed, but then I imagined that I would drive Maisy home.
"It's late Ash. I'll walk, I don't mind." She said whilst sounding completely unbothered, but looking up at the dark sky, I didn't like the idea of her walking for a couple of miles alone.

"No, Stay. I don't want you walking by yourself." I sighed and ducked out of the car frame but saw Maisy standing with her arms crossed over her chest.
"Are you sure I won't be interrupting anything Romeo?" She wiggled her brows and I just rolled my eyes at her behaviour.
One part that I didn't miss out in telling her earlier was that Becca was strictly off limits, but she obviously thought that there was still something going on between us.
I handed her the house key and told her to be as quiet as possible, whilst I made my way around the car and carefully opened the backseat door that Becca was leaning on.
She didn't stir once as I gently lifted up her body and kicked the door closed. One hand was beneath her legs and the other lifted up her upper back.
Strolling towards the open door, I felt her head move slightly so I glanced down. I had expected to see her awake in my arms, but instead noticed that her head full of curls now rested on my chest. Once inside, Maisy shut the door and shuffled to the side where Becca's head lay.
"Ok, now that's super cute." She said whilst looking directly at Becs.
"How the fuck am I going to get her into bed without Ethan and Josie seeing?" I whispered to her and she placed a finger on my lips.
"Hush my child. I got this." She said with a wink and began to strut towards the movie room.
I once again sighed at the crazy girl and stood in the empty hallway with Becca.
I shifted my gaze towards her freckled nose and red cheeks, taking in her features like it was the last time that I would ever get to hold her.
The sound of footsteps alerted me that we had company and I subconsciously ran to the other side of the corridor.
"Relax dumbass, It's just me." Maisy spoke too loud for my liking.
"Keep it down Mais, we can't let Ethan see Becca like this he's gonna ask fucking questions." I ranted.
"Oh you ain't gonna see either of them for a longggg time." She said but instantly slapped a hand over her mouth.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing just that they are uh- asleep in the movie room. We shouldn't wake them though, they have blankets and uh- they look pretty comfy." She said but I wasn't listening at this point, I was too busy carrying Becca to her room.
For some reason, there were no sheets on her bed and due to my pure tiredness and the inability to make a bed with someone in my arms, I strolled through the bathroom and opened the door leading into my room.
A few clothes scattered my bed, but nothing that I couldn't throw out of the way to slowly place her onto the mattress.
How I wished that she was here under different circumstances.
Lifting the duvet onto her, I tucked a few stray ringlets of her hair behind her ear and grabbed a few pillows from the other side of my bed, before chucking them onto the ground. I knew full well how stiff I was going to be tomorrow, but I guess it was the price that I had to pay.
The things that I would do for this girl.
