《The Fading Sunshine》Chapter 25

***Kageyama's POV
I woke up to a shushed groaning noise. I sat up and my eyes immediately dart to Hinata. He was stirring in his bed but his eyes were not opening. I pressed the nurse's call button and tried to wait patiently for the doctors.
After about a minute they rushed in frantically, but sighed in relief when they saw he was only waking up. "I assume you already know this since you called us in, but your friend will wake up soon." One of the doctors said with a smile.
"Thank God..." I sighed as I looked back over to Hinata. He began to slowly open his eyes and look around. "W-where am I..." Hinata asked groggily.
"Hinata... You're in the hospital... Do you remember what happened to you?" The doctor asked.
"I-I remember fighting with my dad... But how did I end up here??" He asked.
"Well... Daichi and I went to your house to check on you after I came that first time... And well... We saw everything..." I said.
Hinata's eyes widened and started to tear up. "Y-You... Saw everything?..." He asked me as his voice cracked.
"Yes.. We called the police and they had to..." I stopped. I don't know how he would react to the death of his dad... Should I even tell him?
"They had to what, Kageyama?" He asked.
"Well... You're dad threatened to kill you... and they had to shoot him down in order to save your life...." I said.
"M-my dad... He... He...." He struggled to say but broke down in sobs.
"I'm so sorry Hinata..." I said as I wrapped my arms around him and held him tightly. As he begin to calm himself down he quietly asked, "Did he survive?..."
"No... I don't know if that was the answer you were hoping for... But no, he didn't survive..."
I told him.
"Thank God..." He said as he began to cry again. He was shaking, the doctor left and said he would come back when he's calmed down.
"Hinata..." I said as his breathing began to normalize. "If you don't mind me asking, why were you happy about your dad not surviving?" I asked, scared that he was going to confirm that he had really been abused all this time.
"No, I want to tell you... It's just hard..." He said. "Well... Ever since my mom and Natsu's death, my dad started drinking and would lose his temper... a lot... And he would take out his anger on me and sometimes he would just yell or slap me or something something along those lines... But sometimes he would..." He stopped for a minute and took a deep breath. "Sometimes he would beat me..." He said and looked down at the bed.

I lifted up his chin and looked into his eyes. "Hinata, I'm so sorry you had to go through that, but your safe now. I won't let anyone hurt you ever again..." I told him.
**Hinata's POV
When I woke up in the hospital, Kageyama explained everything that happened after I went unconscious. My dad was dead and I guess it made me a little sad because, well, he was my dad. But for the most part I was happy to finally be out of that living hell. My recovery period lasted for about a week and a half. During that time the Karasuno, Seijoh, Nekoma, and Fukurodoni volleyball team came to see me serval times. I had a fast recovery and the doctors are discharging me today.
"So... Will you walk me home after i'm discharged?" I asked Kageyama.
"You're not staying at your house by yourself Hinata." He said.
"But Kageyama... All of my stuff is there, and anyways, it's not like I have relatives to stay with." I said.
"We can go get your things, but you're staying at my house. I've already talked to my mom and she's gonna move her things out of her office and make it a room for you." Kageyama told me.
"A-Are you sure I won't be a bother?" I asked.
"I'm sure. You're not gonna be a bother Hinata." Kageyama said with a soft smile.
"Alright..." I said.
Soon, the doctors came into the room and gave me the discharge papers. As soon as I filled them out, Kageyama and I walked out of the hospital and started to head to my house to pack up some of my things. We got to my house and walked up the stairs to my room. I worked on packing my clothes and things in my room, while Kageyama packed up my bathroom items.
I was finishing putting my clothes into box's when Kageyama walked in with my moms old make-up bag in his hands. I didn't think anything of it, until I remembered my razors and bandages were in there.
"What's this, Boke?" Kageyama asked as he unzipped the bag.
"Wait, Kageyama don't open it!" I said, but it was too late. He had already unzipped the bag and seen the contents inside. He pulled out one of the bloodied razors and looked up at me.
"Hinata..." He said as he started to tear up.
"I'm sorry..." I said, as I fell to my knees and put my head in my hands.

"Hinata... You don't have to be sorry. You were going through a lot. It's okay." Kageyama said as he put his arms out to hug me.
I accepted the hug and we stayed on the floor like this for a couple minutes. After we got up and finished packing my things, we called his mom to come pick us up so we didn't have to carry my boxes all the way to his house.
His mom pulled up and Kageyama opened the door for me. "Hey guys! Hinata, how are you feeling darling?" His mom asked.
"I'm feeling a lot better. Thanks for asking, Mrs. Kageyama." I said with a smile.
"I'm glad! I picked up meat buns for supper, Kageyama said those were your favorites!" She said.
"Thank you, but you didn't have to do all of this for me.." I said.
"Don't be silly. You've been cooped up in that hospital for almost two weeks, you deserve to have some real food. Besides, you're family now Hinata." She said, as Kageyama shut the door and she began to pull out of my old driveway.
We arrived at Kageyama's house and carried my belongings up to my new room. Kageyama and his mom helped me unpack. When we finally got everything unpacked, it was almost 10 o'clock at night. We went downstairs and ate the meat buns while we talked and laughed.
I soon got tired and decided to head up to take a shower and get ready for bed. I walked to the bathroom and turned on the shower water. I washed off the smell of the hospital and brushed my teeth. I got dressed and walked into my room.
I looked around and smiled. Today was the first day in a while that I felt truly happy. I turned off the lights and laid down in my new bed. I turned on my phone and checked my missed messages. I had a lot of messages and calls from my friends from Karasuno and from other schools. I smiled again and turned my phone off so I could try to fall asleep.
That night, I dreamed of my dad. He stood over me and screamed his hurtful comments into my face.
"You should've died instead ofyour mother and sister."
"Your just a sorry piece of shit."
"You should just kill yourself."
I woke up in a cold sweat and my breathing was unsteady. I got out of bed and made my way to Kageyama's room. I knocked softly on the door but there was no answer. I quietly opened the door and peered inside his dark room. I shuffled over to the side of his bed and slowly laid next to Kageyama on the side of his bed.
He must have felt the bed shift because he opened his eyes. "What are you doing?" He asked groggily.
"I'm sorry, I just had a nightmare about my dad and I couldn't sleep..." I whispered as I started to get back up.
"It's alright.." He said as he put his hand on top of mine. "You can stay.." He said as he put his arm out for me to lay back down with him.
I climbed back into his bed and he wrapped his arms around me. My head rested on his shoulder. He drew circles on my back with his thumb as I closed my eyes and began to fall asleep.
"Hinata..." Kageyama whispered.
I glanced up at him and saw that he was already looking at me.
"I'm really happy I met you.." Kageyama said softly.
"Kageyama..." I said. "I-I like you... A lot..." I said.
"I thought you might..." He said as he closed his eyes once more. "But I like you too..."
I'm glad it was night time, because I felt my face go red. I closed my eyes and leaned over to kiss him. Our lips touched and his eyes widened with shock but then closed then back and he kissed back. We pulled away and looked into each other's eyes.
"I love you, Hinata." Kageyama said.
"I love you too, Kageyama..." I said back with a smile.
At this we both shut our eyes as Kageyama pulled me in closer to him.
I smiled at the thought that I would never have to deal with my dad or Koki ever again. I was finally with people that made me happy and loved me.
I'm finally safe...
I thought as I finally fell asleep.

Please note: the Sexual Content tag is there due to a single brief plot-relevant scene, which has a warning at the beginning. For other details, read the full description below. Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 5 x 5*, 2 x 4.5*, 1 x 0.5* During a blackout, a frail and ragged old woman stops to ask for a glass of water from a backyard barbecue party. Given a good supper instead, she looks around the group, and tells them, "Be who and what you truly are." Days later, seven of the people from the barbecue find themselves drawn into a trap laid by a pair of wizards and their accomplices, who kidnap them into a bubble reality. All seven, who have known each other all their lives, are informed that they are not in fact entirely human: they have active fae blood, due to a series of conditions culminating with the blessing of the elderly fae woman. The transformation into fae form comes as a shock: all seven, whether originally female or male, find themselves now unreasonably beautiful women. More urgent even than that, though, is their captivity. Getting back to the real world is a higher priority than this metamorphosis that rapidly begins to feel natural... but this is only the first step, as the diverse types of fae blood they carry begin to surface. With no resources except themselves, how can they escape this prison? If they succeed, how can they possibly reclaim their lives? Just how many other faelings have been kidnapped, anyway, and what happened to them? And is there a way to make sure that their captors never put anyone else through this? Back in the real world, Kayla, who learned long ago to trust her gut instincts, is absolutely certain that something is very wrong. The pattern in the list of missing friends is easy to spot, but makes no sense at all. Then a young woman turns up at the backyard gate who knows more than she should, and even though her explanation makes even less sense, every instinct tells Kayla that Riley is her only way to get them back. If they're not quite what they were, well, that's a bridge to cross later... Just a little note: I'm a big believer in endings that are upbeat but not candy-coated, and not a fan of grim-and-gritty or of glamorized violence. These are adults in a difficult situation. However, no one gets raped, and the physical violence is, all things considered, fairly minimal. There is some harassment, sexual and otherwise, and also some mild restraint and mild verbal abuse. Complicating factors are generally wizardly or fae in nature. If I need to warn you about gender in this being all over the map, some of it reality-based rather than fantasy-based, highly diverse sexuality, or that there is (especially later) some indirect fetish/BDSM imagery and honest character discussion, then you probably should just avoid everything I write. :-) Also available on Scribble Hub.
