《We Weren't Acting》Chapter 44 - BLOOD IS RED, YOU'RE FRIEND WAS ALMOST DEAD

Running down the hospital hallway on my way to Mark, my mind fills with terrible thoughts.
Today as I was leaving my condo for my morning coffee a note was left on my doormat.
A gasp left my lips as I read the note.
Tears leak out of my eyes as I push my legs faster. As I pass people in the hallway, they either give me looks of piety or they look at me like I'm crazy.
I push my baseball cap farther down my face as I try to hide my identity from all the peering eyes.
I twist the knob of Mark's hospital room hard as I barge inside, getting naususes about what I might see.
I stop my tracks as I raise an eyebrow, I slowly tiptoe to his body.
Confused, I sit in the chair next to where he lies.
Nothing is wrong with Mark, he looks the same as how I left him yesterday.
I grab the scrunch up note from my pocket and whisper it out loud, "Blood is red, You're friend was almost dead, your heart's going to fill with lots of dread."
"What does this mean?" I whisper to myself as I stare at the bolded capitalized note that was left on my doorstep.
"What are you doing??"
I jump back in fright at a man's voice behind me, I twist around in my chair fast, and place a hand behind my body to steady myself against the bed.
"Who are you?" My voice breaks as I stand up straight, looking the man dead in the eyes.
"You're friends doctor," He cocks his eyebrow at me, backing up towards the door, "I'll let you be, you seem off right now." Without giving me time to respond or think he walks out of the room.
Having this offsetting feeling in my gut I reach into my back pocket of my jeans and send a text to Chris.
Not even seconds later Chris responds.
Looking up from my phone making eye contact with my best friend's sleeping body I notice something red on the inside of his palm.
Throwing my phone on the table not caring if it breaks I walk quickly to Mark's side and hold up his hand to inspect.

A gasp leaves my lips, feeling my legs giving out from pure shock. I sit on the edge of Mark's bed and stare in shock at the drawing that's neatly drawn.
A red skull is drawn in the middle of his palm, instead of eyes, there's Xs.
Tears fell down my cheeks, feeling disgusted that someone would come after Mark.
"What the hell Mark," I whisper, "Who would do something like this?"
I haven't done anything to anyone... is this a fan trying to freak me out? If so, mission accomplished.
Feeling concerned if it is a fan they know where I live, and they also know where Mark is. I keep my personal life private, that means my fans know who he is but nothing else.
Sighing in my hands, I scoot on the bed trying to find more comfort, I stop my movements and look down towards the bedsheets.
Bed sheets wouldn't make a crinkling sound right?
As my hands feel around under my bum, I jank my hand up as it comes in contact with paper. I let out a shaky breath knowing that the paper shaking in my hand is another note.
"You can do it, rip it off like it is a bandage," I say to myself as I fold open the note and read it out loud.
"I'm so confused right now."
"So am I," The same voice from before says.
I whip around and give him my best glare.
"Are you alright ma'am?"
"No, I'm not," I state growing angry at the situation I'm in.
He steps forward with his hand extended towards me, I take a step back, hitting the back of my knees as I do so.
Leave it to Lola Wilston to trap herself while feeling in danger.
"You work here?" I question smartly.
He crosses his arms across his chest, and frowns concerned, "Yes."
I gesture towards him, forcing myself to keep calm, "Well you don't look like you do."
A normal doctor doesn't wear a jean jacket with Adidas track pants.
"I just changed," He says while reaching into his hoodie and pulling out a hospital badge.
"Did you by any chance see anyone suspicious in this room today or yesterday?"

"No I didn't see anyone other than myself, you and a couple of nurses, should I be concerned about something?" he questions, staring at me.
Not totally believing the handsome man in front of me, I shake my head no, never taking my gaze off him, "I would just like to be alone with him."
He nods running his hands through his hair as he backs towards the door, "Alright see the front desk if you have any questions or concerns, by the way, there were a group of girls in the hallway screaming about you. They had your face printed out on their clothes, security sent them away." I nod and give him a polite smile.
With that, he leaves the room.
Walking towards the window that's taking up most of the hospital room's wall, I spin around when I hear fast-paced footsteps.
"Are you okay?" Chris asks running into the room, looking around frantically. "You're fine, he's fine," he states, running his eyes over both of our bodies.
I walk into his arms as he cuddles me into his warm body, "Technically yes, but not really."
He places a kiss on the top of my head, "I'm confused." he states cutely, which makes me chuckle.
I love his voice, it always seems to cheer me up.
I explain to Chris what has happened from the time I found the note, till now.
Chris pulls away from and stands beside Mark's hospital bed, he pushes his hands in the pockets of his black sweatpants as he rocks back on the heels of his feet, deep in concentration.
"I don't even know what to say," he whispers quietly, looking up at me.
"It's not safe for him to be here anymore," I state running my hands through Mark's long locks.
"That's obvious, but where do we take him?" I shrug, meeting his eyes as tears of frustration blur my vision.
"Baby," Chris trails off walking towards me, he sits in a chair, before lightly pulling me down onto him.
I curl my body into his warmness, "Did you see his hand and the notes." He places his forehead against the top of my head and gives me a nod, "They're coming after him and I have no idea why."
"Has anything happened lately that would set someone off?" He asks while rubbing circles on my back.
"My ex, Dante, or the shooters?" I list, stuffing my face in his neck. Heat radiates off him like crazy, why buy a heater when I have a Chris?
His body tenses underneath mine, "First of all you're ex is in jail, both of us are good with Dante now, and the shooter...well I don't know."
"I'm scared," I admit.
Chris tightens his arms around my body as he places a kiss on my nose, "Never be scared when I'm with you, I'll protect you the best I could."
You know those moments when you feel your heart sore, you feel like you're on cloud nine? That's how Chris makes me feel, even when my life and Mark's could be in danger, he always seems to amaze me.
I lift my head off his chest, grabbing his handsome face in my hands, I stare deeply into his chocolate brown eyes. "I love you," I whisper, soft tears trickle down my face.
A smile that could break ice appears on Chris's face, "I'm so deeply in love with you butterfly," he whispers back, grabbing my chin and placing his soft plump lips on mine.
His kiss is soft, caring, and delicate. He pulls back when we both smile into the kiss, "I love you so much." he says while smiling, placing his forehead against mine.
I laugh, running my hands through his brown curly locks, " I love you too."
Just after I declared my love for Chris, I saw movement in the corner of my eye.
I gasp and turn around on Chris's lap, as I see Mark's hands twitching and his face scrunching up in discomfort.
Soooo, tell me you're thoughts.
What do you hope happens?
Who do you think is behind all this madness?
I would say there's about 10- to maybe 12 chapters left, I still have a lot more to write about. How do you all feel about that?
Peace out, till tomorrow...
Xoxo, Lexi

Her eyes widened in realization of what he could have thought about her. "Don't tell me you also believed in the rumors our office talking about." she chided at him. "I... I am sorry.
