《Guns and Giggles》25. Spies and Seminars

I heard Michael talking to his new love interest about someone who looked like really familiar.
"I think I have a good vision, I did see her! But how could it be possible? Alex saw her...saw her- uh-" he hesitated.
"Maybe it's just your mind playing games on you, it's okay to feel helpless you know?" She soothed him.
"She was definitely not a ballroom kinda person anyways" he let out a sad smile while holding onto his friend. If I can even call her that. They have been basically glued together.
Walking back to the guest room where I've been sleeping for a few days I remembered what Nick said. Something about it was nagging me. An annoying little voice at the back of my head, urging me to look deeper.
"When were you going to tell me?" I gritted my teeth.
"Tell you what?"
"That there is a man in your life you call boyfriend? What would he think of this? What about us? You should have told me before this! I knew you were too good for me! What about him?"
"I'll ask him when I tell him that!"
"Tell him what?" I yelled. Angry with her, angry with myself, angry with my life in general!
"That he's my boyfriend!" She said in a 'duh' tone.
"He doesn't know that?" I'm confused what's going on?
"No of course not! I didn't get a chance to meet him yet! I'll meet him and I'll tell him that you are worried about-" I kissed her immediately stopped her stupid mouth saying more stupid things.
"Ooh I got a good one!" Nick spoke.
"I was just casually hanging out with my coworkers at the club near the studio when a girl sneaked up on to me. She was kinda hot so I turned to her when she said she's breaking up with me!" He laughed.
Connect the dots Alex.
But could that be possible?
Michael does have better vision...
B-But how? Why?
I stopped in my tracks and rushed to the kitchen looking for Feyona.
"Fey who's missing?" I ask panting.
"Oh dear boy come here! You are still in shock." She showed the slightest emotion.

I shakes my head and prompted her, "I need to know if any staff was added or removed or went on a leave."
"Nope everyone's accounted for." She answered.
"Are you sure about that?" I looked around.
"Except... I didn't see Mia all day today, she didn't inform about a leave too...But that hardly means she's missing." Feyona muttered. "Why what's wrong?"
"So much." I covered my face with my hands. My heart beating faster thinking about the possibilities.
Oh no!
"Brian!" I yelled, looking for him just outside the kitchen but he immerged from the kitchen itself.
"I need you to take Alana to the safe house. Now." I said with the most calm yet deadly voice.
Brian understood where I was coming from and he did as I told, no questions asked.
A few minutes later he came downstairs with an irritated Alana who came rushing towards me.
"Alex! Why do I have to go?" She pleaded.
"It's for your own safety Al" I sighed and signalled Brian.
"No! Is it because of Mia? She has hated me since I arrived here! I knew there was something wrong with her! She's a psychopath! Who eats the vegetables first and then the crust SEPARATELY?" She exasperated about a pizza.
"Don't worry about it." I was about to turn around when she added "She was jealous of Ariana too, I wouldn't put it past her to somehow be involved Alex" making my blood boil.
I went back to Feyona and pulled her out of the cooking area.
"Why did you hire Mia?"
"You need to eat Alex, you are not feeling well..." She tried to get up.
"Why. Did you. hire. her?" I paused for effect.
"I thought you did?" She scrunched her eyebrows.
Fúck .
"Stay inside" I ordered and went to find Zach. Where the fúck is everyone when you need them?
"ZACHARY COME DOWN HERE RIGHT THIS SECOND" My voice boomed through the house.
"Find out everything about Mia, do a thorough investigation, I want information on her within an hour. Starting now." I spoke with a coldness that could freeze rubber.

Everyone else was staring at me as if I popped another nípple. I shook my head and went through the secret door to my cave.
Yes I'm batman.
Jk.
I stored all my guns, explosives and other fun stuff down here. I picked a few of my favourite, already knowing what Zach is going to come up with. I loaded the guns, keeping them in my holders and my boots.
Angry clicks echoed in the room and I finally snapped.
I slammed my hands down on the table letting out a grunt. Never has something rattled me inside out where my hands shake to assemble the gun.
I need to know what's going on. A spy in my own house. If anyone got to know about it, everything I did will go to waste.
Zach rushed in a few moments later, followed by Steve, Michael and Feyona. His face said it all.
"Guys we need to find Mia." I spoke looking at the guns scattered on the table.
"You can't seriously be in Love with her." Steve exclaimed.
"She's not even a one compared to Ariana." Michael added.
"You've gone crazy haven't you!" Feyona muttered.
"Listen guys! I think Ariana..." I couldn't say that, not if I was going to disappoint myself again. I shook my head and looked at everyone "We need to get Mia. Track her Zach."
Here's a tip for budding criminals:-
Never come in with things a trained soldier can use to escape!
I found keys in the pocket of one of the men holding me back and I jabbed it in his leg. It was attached to a spring thingy so I removed the keys and choked 2 others with it.
Mia's brother tried to shoot at me but I used his own men as sheild. The energy I regained since I woke up combined with the adrenaline rush was the only thing keeping me alive because I could feel various cuts on my arms and stomach spilling out fresh blood.
'Wrestling is just ballet with violence.' Oli said it all the time.
I closed my eyes and let my body do the talking. Swift kicks and choke holds threw down the last of those men. Mia's brother was out of ammunition so he discarded the gun and rushed towards me as Mia tried to text for backup. Seriously? Text? I need to set up a whole two hour seminar for these people.
I punched him in the stomach making him bend towards me and then broke his nose. He fell backwards seemingly unconscious.
"Well would you look at that, he fell asleep." I dusted off the imaginary dust off my hands.
Someone opened the door and I elbowed the person below the knees and as he was falling forward I tried to pin them by holding their hand behind the back, but he blocked my hold by capturing my wrist and tried to grab my neck, I pinned their other hand over head the last second. And then...
Time slowed down.
Alex.
The only thing we could hear is our shallow breaths.
We stared into each others eyes. Not believing that this was reality and if we broke away our gaze we would vanish into thin air.
I was straddling him, he was breathing hard.
We were vulnerable for a flick of a second but someone tried to attack us from behind and I saw the intruder's reflection on the broken glass and rolled both of us away.
Our postions reversed, I was now below him, he was above me and we were so into each other, but soon reality knocked on my ears and I heard all the chaos.
We nodded to each other, understanding the gravity of the situation. I moved to get up but he held my wrist looking into my eyes.
This isn't over yet.
'I promise.' I nodded once more.
He pulled me up and looked worriedly at the cuts on my arms and the bleeding. I smiled.
"Don't worry about me, I got me." I choked out and we both got up to fight off crazy guys.
The last thing I remember is my adrenaline leaving me as I fall down and Oli rushing in from the door and Alex running to catch me before I hit my head on the floor.
I hate fainting.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
