《For The Sake Of》CHAPTER 15: Too Good For Me

"It's almost eleven, why don't both of you go to sleep", I scolded Emmeline and Isaac who sat on the couch, watching Frozen 2 and were chatting.
Isaac switched off the TV and picked Emmeline in his arms before going to my room and I trailed behind them.
He carefully placed her on the bed and then kissed her forehead, whispering, "Goodnight."
He then said goodnight to me before moving out only to be stopped by Emmeline, "You didn't give her a goodnight kiss."
He stared at her weirdly before looking at me while my eyes were wide open.
Will he kiss me goodnight?
"It's...o-k, Emmeline...", I tried making her understand but she only frowned, "But why? Dad kisses mom goodnight everyday."
I looked at Isaac for help but he only shrugged moving closer to me untill he was inches apart and he leaned down and very softly, kissed my forehead, letting his lips linger there and making my heart skip a beat.
He mumbled, "Goodnight, Thera", before moving out of the room.
With Emmeline in my arms, I stepped out of the car at the airport, in front of my private jet.
She gasped at the sight of the jet.
Isaac stepped out too, followed by Josh who will be going with Emmeline.
"I am going in that?", She asked in surprise.
"Yes."
I handed her over to Josh but before that, she hugged me tightly, wrapping her small arms around my neck and buried her head in the crook of my neck.
"I will miss you, Thera", she whispered sadly making my eyes wet with tears.
"I will miss you too, babe", I said ruffling her hair.
"And thank you so, so, so much for taking care of me."
"Aww...I enjoyed it. I like kids."
She then kissed my cheeks and in return I kissed her cheeks too.
Next, she did the same thing with Isaac, told him that she will miss him too and then kissed his cheeks too and he kissed her forehead before handing her to Josh who took her inside the jet after she waved to us for the last time.
"I still don't get it that why didn't you go along with her", Isaac said, shifting closer to me and my body stiffened at his words.
"I have lots of work."
"It's Sunday."
"Umm...", I trailed off trying to find an answer.
"You do realise that most of your actions are very suspicious and questionable", he said in warning tone.
"Wh-what do you...mean?"
He bought his mouth close to my ear and whispered, "Very soon, Thera."
The way he emphasised on my name made me shiver because he was definitely up to something, something I wouldn't like.

Walking past Isaac's room, I found his door slightly open and I could here his voice as he talked to someone over the phone.
Why hasn't he left yet?
He was supposed to leave for a dinner meeting and he should have left till now or else he will get late.
Knocking softly, I went inside to find him standing infront of the mirror with a file in his hand and the phone pressed between his shoulder and ear while he tried to button up his white shirt with one hand.
He looked at me briefly before looking back at the file in his hand and he instructed his assistant (I assumed) on the call.

"I am already getting late, you better find that file! Check in that cupboard behind my desk", he ordered.
He was trying to button up his shirt but failed to do as he grumbled.
I walked over to him, removed his hand and started buttoning up the shirt myself. He looked down at me in confusion but resumed talking anyway.
I caught a glimpse of his torso, the six packs making my throat dry, he was so hot.
I quickly shook my head, removing all those thoughts.
And I slowly buttoned up the shirt, starting from the bottom reaching the top button. And I left the collar button opened.
"Now hurry up and meet me outside the restaurant; I am leaving in a minute", he spoke before hanging up the call.
I walked over to his bed where his coat was lying neatly and picked it up and stood behind him with the coat in my hand as he slipped his hands inside it and adjusted the coat.
He then proceeded to close the collar button that I left open but I stopped him, "Don't."
He looked at me in confusion and raised a brow at me.
"It looks better while open", I muttered.
He smirked, "It? Or me?"
I rolled my eyes but couldn't help the blush that crept up my cheeks, "Whatever."
But he agreed to me and quickly wore his shoes and wrist watch while I stood there watching him with keen eyes.
He didn't protest when I helped him get dressed, could that be a progress in our relationship?
"When will you come back?", I asked following him out of his room.
"Why? Are you going to miss me?", he teased, moving down the stairs.
I scoffed, "Of course not. I was just asking."
"A bit late", he replied before leaving the house.
I can't believe it's been three months since we got married...did anything change? I don't think so except for the fact that Isaac now atleast considers me as his wife. And also that he claims to own me.
He is weird, strange and sometimes makes me wanna punch him or beat some sense into him but there is something about him that attracts me, maybe the way he acted with Emmeline, he was gentle to her. Or maybe the way he intertwined his hand with mine that day.
I thought it was just lust that I had for him but there is something else even...
He is my husband and I have to spend the rest of my life with him, I have accepted it.
I accepted that no matter what, I am married to him. I am his wife and it's my duty to care for him whether he cares for me or not.
I do have lust for him...I can't deny that. I want him and I know that maybe he wants me too but he is just scared.
And I am not the kind of person to force myself on him.
For however long I am with him, I want to make sure that I mend his friendship with Nyle and make him stop smoking.
And of course...find out the real reason behind this marriage. How can I forget that? That question has been troubling me since day one.
But for all that, I need to be atleast a friend to him...
It was midnight and Isaac has not returned yet. The meeting should have ended a few hours back but he didn't return.

I was getting worried...
I was about to call him again since he didn't pick up my call once but I heard the front door opening and then it was slammed shut.
I walked out of my room to see a Isaac walking up the stairs with messy hair, the first few buttons of his shirt open. He looked sad...
"Isaac?", I said when he walked past me but he didn't acknowledge me.
I followed him into his room and he sat on the bed, looking down at the floor.
I sat beside him.
"Wh-y are you...here?", he slurred.
He was drunk.
"Did you drive yourself?", I asked.
He looked at me, "No. I called Jack."
(Jack was his driver.)
"Oh, good."
He was drunk but not very much, he seemed to be in his senses.
I slowly extended my hand and touched his cheeks softly making his whole body tense but that didn't stop me from cupping his cheek.
"What's wrong?", I asked very softly.
He looked at me in confusion and then he closed his eyes for a brief moment, the frown on his face disappearing but only for second before it was back again he opened his eyes.
"Nothing", he replied gently, removing my hand slowly from his cheek.
I ran my hand through his silky, soft hair slowly making it a bit tidier.
"You can tell me...I am your wife", I said.
He sighed heavily.
As I was sitting beside him, I slowly rested my head against his forearm.
"You are too good for me, Thera", he suddenly spoke, surprising me.
I lifted my head and looked at him; he was looking at me with such intensity, it made me melt.
"You are too good", he said again, "I don't deserve you. You don't deserve to be in such a marriage. You have such a beautiful heart...why? Why can't you hate me? And let me hate you too.
I keep hurting you and you keep coming back..."
He stared at me, a storm going inside his eyes.
Maybe he is drunk a lot or else he would never say those things in his sober state.
"You--", he started again but I stopped him.
I kept my finger on his lips, "Shhh...go to sleep Isaac."
I am afraid he will say something he will regret.
He removed his coat and then tried to unbutton his shirt but his hands were trembling so, I helped him remove it.
His muscles, biceps, his abs, Oh God!
He stood up and unbuckle his pants and I quickly covered my eyes, "You can't change here!"
But he ignored me and proceeded to remove it while I peeked through my hand to see him standing there in his boxers.
Holy Shit!
I got up and moved towards the door, keeping my eyes on the floor but as I was about to open it, he said, "Stay."
"But--"
"Please."
Isaac Grayson said please to me, can you believe it?!
Ok...maybe I am overreacting.
He went and laid down on the bed on one side and when I was still standing there, he patted the space next to him.
Gulping, I went and slipped inside the duvet beside him while my heart was beating wildly.
I turned my back towards him but the next moment he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me into his rock hard chest and buried his face in the crook of my neck.
I was too shocked by his actions, I was about to question him but then I heard his light snores.
How did he fell asleep so suddenly?!
I have no freaking idea what will happen tomorrow when he is sober and he realises what all happened today.
Oh God, save me!
I groaned as the sunlight was shining directly on my face. Who the hell removed the curtains?!
Exasperatedly I opened my eyes and then I screamed.
Opening my eyes, I came face to face with Isaac who laid beside me, propped up by the support of his elbow looking at me with a frown.
It looked like that he already took a bath cause his hair looked wet.
Why didn't he wake me up before?
"Mind to explain what are you doing in my room?", he asked.
"Especially, what are you doing on my bed?", he questioned.
I sat up straight while he was still lying there, "Umm...you were drunk last night..."
"So, you took advantage of me?"
My eyes widened, "What?! No...of course not!"
"Then?"
"You insisted me to stay with you", I said lowering my gaze.
He doesn't remember anything and what if he doesn't believes me?
"You could have left anyway", he said sitting up.
I got up from the bed, running my hand through my hair, "But you insisted."
He got up too, "But it was not like I handcuffed you or something, you could have left. Or you could have left after I fell asleep."
"I thought about it but you had a strong grip around me and if I had left you would have woke up."
"So what?"
"What do you mean by so what? You were sleeping and I didn't want to wake you up and... nothing else."
He walked closer and folded his arms, "It was not such a big deal. It's not that if I had woke up I would have killed you or something..."
"You looked very sad, Isaac. And--"
"Why didn't you leave me alone?"
I paused. Drunk Isaac and sober Isaac are so different. Drunk Isaac was asking me to stay and this sober Isaac is asking me why I didn't leave him alone.
"Because...", I trailed off making him frown.
"Because?"
"Because...I care for you, Isaac."
The frown vanished and he was now staring at me blankly. His face looked devoid of any emotion as if he couldn't understand anything that or my words effected him.
He turned around, avoiding eye contact with me.
And with his back towards me he said, "I never asked you to care for me."
My heart broke; out of all replies, I never expected him to say that. I wasn't asking him to care for me too, I was just telling him that I cared for him and all he had to say was, "I never asked you to care for me."
"That doesn't matter, Isaac. You are my husband...and I just care for you. It doesn't matter whether you asked me or not."
"Leave me alone."
That was it, I immediately left his room.
Why Isaac, why? Why can't you let me care for you? Let me mend you?
