- Paige's POV -
We just touched down in New York City for camp and apparently all of our flights are getting here around the same time so we're having to wait for everyone to get here before leaving to go to the hotel.
I have the hood up my hoodie up and this hoodie has like one of those like pull up mask thingies so that's hiding my bruised neck from where Caleb nearly killed me yesterday. I feel fine now besides it hurts if I touch my neck or turn my head fast.
As we're walking towards the designated area of where we're supposed to go and wait, I heard my name from behind me.
"Paige!" I turn around and see Mal coming towards me.
(Pretend Mal is sixteen as well)
"Mal!" I say and we hug when she gets to me. When we pull apart, we do our quick handshake before we continue walking to the area. Only the DC gang, North Carolina, Orlando, and Houston gang was here. So we're gonna be waiting for just a little bit. Mal and I are in a corner sitting on the floor since I always do that.
"Hey, if you don't mind me asking Paige, but why is your cheek bruised? And your neck?" I physically tense up at all the events replaying. Even the ones from the past. "Don't tell anyone. Mom and mama, and Alex already know but please don't." I whisper, looking towards the floor, also trying to move my mask thingy to hide the bruises on my neck. "You know I won't, Pai." (A/n - pronounced like pay) She says. "Caleb was abusive and he raped me alot. He always used protection though. But he tried killing me at school yesterday morning. I woke up in the hospital then not long after we went home. Now we're here." I say without emotion. I look up and over to see Mal's mouth open and her just frozen. "Mal?" I ask. She doesn't move or anything. "Pai, I'm sorry." She says. "I would've had to kill him for hurting you. I want to kill him." She says. "No! No no it's not worth it. He's not worth going to jail over." I say and she laughs. "Well you are. You're my best friend and I would do anything for you." She says and smiles at me. I give a soft smile back and lay my head on her shoulder.

Once everyone was here an hour later, we headed to the hotel and got settled in. Even though I'm not a player, I got roomed with Mal which I always usually get roomed with her.
"I'm headed down to the meeting. I'll be back up in a bit." She says. "Alright. I'm probably still going to be right here." I mine into my pillow. That earns a laugh from her and I hear the door open and shut. I then set an alarm for 4:30 so I can take a nap. It's only 1:24 right now so I'll be fine.
What feels like two minutes later, I feel ice water be poured over me and I immediately jump up.
"What the fuck?!" I yell. Kelley and Pinoe's eyes widen then turn to run out of my room. I'm guessing our teammates heard me because they all popped their heads out. I still had my shoes on from where I was halfway on the bed.
"What the hell did y'all do?!" Carli yells after us and I know half the team is recording and following us. "Something they shouldn't have!" I yelled back. I see three people come around the corner and scream at Kelley and Pinoe, scaring the hell out of them so I slow down. It looked like Allie, Mom, and Sam.
"Why the hell did you pour ice water on me?" I snap. They look really confused. "What? Why are you all confused your the ones who poured water on me!" I say. Pinoe, Kelley, Allie, and Sam point at my neck and Mom just gives me a small frown.
My hoodie isn't hiding the bruises anymore. Shit.
I back up a few steps slowly before turning around to see the rest of the team behind me confused as hell too. I then quickly pull my hood pack up and walk through the silence with my head down back towards Mal and I's room. "Paige wait!" Everyone yelled. "Girls d-" I heard Mama try to say but I stopped and turned back to face them. "Long story short, I've been through hell of alot and almost died yesterday." I say, causing all of their jaws to drop except for Mal, Alex, and moms. "I'm fine. Just don't pour fucking ice water on me." I say specifically to Kelley and Pinoe before heading into the room.

Synopsis It's the year 2052 and the release of the new next-generation full-dive VRMMO game called The Depths of Magic is hitting the world by storm. The game's technology will surpass all other games before it and shock the masses. Hector who goes by the name Locke inside the game is an experienced player of the genre. He is looking to continue his goal of enjoying gaming as well as the competition that goes along with competing for the top ranking spots. Novel Summary The Depths of Magic is a LitRPG novel focused on a Fantasy VRMMO setting. This is not a harem novel. In-Game systems The Depths of Magic features state-of-the-art technology never before seen in Hector's world. The key system the novel will bring up often is the Second Brain. The Second Brain system is more like a guidance AI for the players in the game that acts as if you had a second brain assisting your every action. How much guidance this AI will give is based on its experience or mastery skills a player will receive in the game. The guidance is seamless to a point where a player won't even realize they are being assisted, it's will feel like what they are doing is something they could always do. However, once they leave the game it will become quite apparent that they were receiving heavy guidance. The purpose of this system in a writing sense is to explain why a player can realistically become more powerful, more agile, or more skilled than they would otherwise be able to as a human. To give an example if someone could move faster than a bullet, how would a normal human brain be able to perceive and control this movement properly. Or how could a player who has never held a sword before become as experienced as someone who has trained with the sword all their lives? The magic system will be another focus of this novel. I don't want to spoil anything here but it should be an interesting one. The hope is that the system I have made will spark discussion between the readers on what combinations will do what. I already have most of it, but it will be fun to read as the author. Side notes My general focus for this novel is to attempt to make the in-game systems make sense. To give a vague example I have read a lot of novels of this genre and some have the habit of just creating such powerful items that it just breaks the system, and somehow the MC keeps finding challenging situations even with those items. What tends to happen when I read a novel like this I just ignore the stats of the items he is getting because the numbers don't even matter anymore.
