《I'm A Krieger Harris》Chapter Ten

- Paige's POV -
We don't have school any of next week and it's now Sunday. Today is Kaylee's funeral and I literally want to die. I don't know what I'm gonna do with out her. I haven't said a word since they found me and Kaylee together. I know that Caleb's dead because the police shot him. I'm driving to the funeral which it's a graveside service.
Once I get there, I get out of my car and I'm already crying so hard. Both of her parents are here, which they're not arguing so that's good. Her sister Olivia is here, which I go and hug her first, despite all of the other people here. But her sister and I are good friends as well and I wasn't here for her. "I haven't seen you in a while and I'm sorry we're seeing each other in these circumstances." She says and I nod. "I'm sorry this happened to both of you." She says. I haven't physically spoken so I type it out on my phone.
It was all my fault.
"No it wasn't. That guy that hurt you all those months was not your fault. It was his." She tells me. I just slightly nod and go to Kaylee's parents. I don't say anything to them but they understand that I'm at a point where I don't want to.
The service was beautiful, and the burial people are letting me and Olivia shovel all the dirt over her casket. We're both in clothes that we're comfortable enough to do it. I'm wearing dark skinny jeans with a black short-sleeve button up and so is Olivia. We let everyone leave before starting to remove the dirt. We both take the first large shovelful before dropping it at the same time on Kaylee's casket.

"She had one of the best souls you could ever find. I mean, with everything that happened she stayed calm through it. She didn't turn to drugs or suicidal shit like I did." Liv says while we continue. "She was a straight A student. Amazing soccer player. She had some mad art skills. Funny. Damn." She continues and I just continue to let the tears stream.
After two hours, her grave was covered and the dirt was correctly shaped and all, we both payed a white rose, which is her favorite flower on top of the dirt. "See ya around school Pai." Liv says and we hug. I nod and she walks off, and I just sit down by Kaylee's grave.
- Wednesday -
We're at school and it's 4th period. We're all having to go downstairs for an assembly, which we all know is about the shooting. I'm dreading it but I'm here so I can't skip.
Once everyone was in the gym, which I'm sitting in front of the stairs at the top of the bleachers. Some of the staff comes up and sits down and I see my sister stay down on the floor and stand by the wall.
"Good Afternoon students and staff. Students, you probably know why we're here. We had a traumatic event happen last Friday to us. We lost a lot of our own. Alot of our own was injured, and betrayed by one of our own." The principal says. "If we could just take a moment of silence for the ones we have lost please." He says and the whole gym goes silent. After a minute, he begins speaking again. He talks about how it was traumatic and was gonna probably love with us for the rest of our lives. Then some students talked and now it's the student council president's turn. We all hate her because she's so stuck up and all.

"Hi everyone. Friday was a very traumatic day for all of us" blah blah blah. I tuned her out for a bit. "But we all know who caused that. It wasn't Caleb, it was Ms. Krieger Harris up there. Ruining Caleb's life caused this." I stand up. Some of the staff is confused and then most of the students ooo'd. "Maybe if you got your head out of your ass, you'd understand what she went through." On of my teammates yelled. I start walking down the tons of stairs on the bleachers. "Oh and look at that, she got her best and only friend killed because of her own mistake and is walking away because she's a pussy." The girl says and the students mainly all laugh except my teammates. "ENOUGH." The principal takes the mic away from her and I exit the gym and sprint down the hallway.
"Paige!" I hear behind me. I know it's my sister. We're allowed to check ourselves out today because of the assembly, which I have my backpack on me right now. I make it to the lobby and sign myself out before walking outside and starting the walk around the building to my car. "Paige wait." Danielle says and grabs my wrist, turning me around. I'm already crying again, so that is always fucking great.
"Where are you going?" I sign to her that I'm going home. We learned ASL as kids and I've kept it. "Hey, don't let her get to your head. She doesn't know what she's talking about, alright?" I don't sign anything. "Paige." I just turn away from her and start continuing my walk to my car. "Paige, you've gotta talk!" She yells after me. Once I get to my car, I drive home. Mom and Mama are at practice so I just go to my room and cry myself to sleep.
What felt like five minutes later, I feel someone rubbing my back and I open my eyes to see Mama sitting next to me and Mom is standing in the doorway. "Hey sweetie, Danielle called earlier worrying about you. We let you sleep but dinner's ready." I just shake my head and put my head back in my pillow.
I don't want to eat. I don't want to move. I don't want to live without my best friend.
I simply just don't want to live.

Grim Beginnings
For most, ghosts and monsters were fantasy. For Tessa Byrne-Reyes, they were a constant in her daily life as a reaper. The legendary gods and creatures of mythology were, to her, historical figures. From a young age, she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders, possessing what she saw as a curse but what her family considered a gift. It was her birthright, to use her abilities to guide the deceased to the afterlife of an eternity in peace or in torment. Her classmates viewed her as "the fainting girl" who would pass out in the middle of a lesson with inexplicable injuries. She experienced each death in the town of Belmont Falls, from the mundane to the gruesome. A gunshot wound in the gut, broken ribs, her heart ceasing to beat for several minutes. No one understood what caused these incidents but over the years, she gained a reputation for being abnormal. While Tessa is the freak of Belmont Falls, Fin Belmont, the charming rebel and son of the richest man in town, is her polar opposite. Knowing each other for years but never saying more than a dozen words between them, one night changes everything, thrusting them into each other's unfamiliar and daunting worlds. Together, with the help of her best friend/his ex-girlfriend Elena, they begin to unravel secrets about their town and their pasts, learning that some secrets are better left buried and grudges can be held for centuries.
