《I'm A Krieger Harris》Chapter Forty Five

- Paige's POV - The Next Day -
I'm currently driving away from the airport but going to an emergency room because this girl has really bad pain to the right of her abdomen.
It hurts when it's touched, when I move, and I've thrown up a few times today, thankfully not on the plane though, and I don't know why.
I walk into the ER and check myself in. It doesn't take long for me to be called and I tell the doctor everything that's going on and she does an examination by seeing how tender it is to the touch, and let me tell you it hurts like a total bitch.
"Alright, I'm gonna do am ultrasound." She says and I nod. "Is it fine if I call someone real quick?" I ask. "Yes, of course." She says as she's getting everything ready.
I take out my phone and hit Jade's contact.
"Hey babe, have you arrived in Houston yet?" She asks. "Uh, yeah. Buuuuut, I was wondering if you're working today? I wasn't sure." I say. "No, I'm not. Is everything okay? I can come get you. I'm out running some errands." She says. "Well, I'm kind of at the hospital." She says. "Wait, what? Why?" She says. "I'm getting checked out." I say as the doctor puts gel on my stomach.
"I have really bad pains in my abdomen. Don't know what it is yet." I say. "Oh... I'll be there in just a little bit, alright?" She says. "Okay. See you in a bit." I say. "See ya." She says and the call ends.
"Well Paige, it seems you have an appendix that doesn't agree with your body anymore." The doctor says and I sigh.
"So, surgery right?" I say. "Yes ma'am." She says. She then tells me that she's gonna take me to get admitted and all.

After maybe thirty minutes, I'm laying in a bed with an IV in my hand, that has morphine going through the drip. I've also already told my family and the Coach of the Dash.
There's a knock on the door.
"Come in." I say and close out of Instagram and set my phone down. I was making a post for pre-op, and explaining why I was about to have surgery.
The door opens and in walks in Jade.
"Hi." I say with a smile. "Hey." She says with the cutest worried face ever. "You look hot today." I say as I look at my girlfriend as she walks to my bedside.
"Thanks. But what's the verdict? You're worrying me." She says as she takes my hand and kisses it before pecking my lips gently.
"I have to have an appendectomy." I say. "So you're getting your appendix removed?" She asks and I nod. "Surgery is in about an hour." I say. "I'm sorry you've been traded and within two days you're in the city you were traded to, but as soon as you get here you have to have surgery. I hate that for you." Jade says softly. "Hey, don't be sorry. It just makes life more adventurous and wild." I say with a small smile, causing her to smile.
I remove my hand from hers and rest it on her left jaw, where she moves her head softly further into it.
"Ow." I say as a pain comes through my body against the morphine. Morphine doesn't always help but it's working wonders right now.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Jade asks. "I'm okay." I say, and she looks me in the eyes very lovingly and worriedly.
"I'm okay." I say again and she nods. She turns her head before laying a very soft, long, and sweet kiss on my palm, then takes my hand back in hers again.

After a few minutes, the doctor returns to my room, Doctor Cowan.
"We're ready for you upstairs, Paige." She says. "Nice." I say. "Hey, I'll be here waiting for you." Jade says before we share a kiss. "Mkay." I say. "Good luck." She says and I smile.
______
I awaken to the sound of a ready beep. I open my eyes slowly, and look to the side to see my girlfriend sitting there with my hand in both of hers as they're resting against her forehead. ,
"Hey." I say raspily, making her look up. "Hey, beautiful." She says softly. "What are you talking about? I'm a mess." I say and she laughs softly.
"How're you feeling?" She asks. "Weird." I say. "The doctor has you on morphine." She says. "Ohhhhh." I say and she nods.
I then call my Moms to let them know I'm out of surgery and okay.
"I'm sleepy." I say. "Then get some rest, boo." My girl says. "Mmmkay." I answer.
I'm also in the mood to sing for some reason. I begin to hum like Shawn Mendes does in Mercy.
You've got a hold of me
Don't even know your power
I stand a hundred feet
"Hey, shhhh... No singing beautiful." Jade says with a small laugh. I ignore her as I continue to sing.
But I fall when I'm around ya
Show me an open door
Then you go and slam it on me
I can't take anymore
I'm saying, baby
Please have mercy on me
Take it easy on my heart
Even though you don't mean to hurt me
You keep tearing me apart
Would you please have mercy, mercy on my heart?
Would you please have mercy, mercy on my heart?
I shut my eyes but open them when I hear footsteps enter the room. I see Doctor Cowan and some nurses, and I look over to see Jade in awe.
I'd drive through the night
Just to be near you, baby
Heart open, testify
Tell me that I'm not crazy
I'm not asking for a lot
Just that you're honest with me
My pride is all I got
I'm saying, baby
Please have mercy on me
Take it easy on my heart
Even though you don't mean to hurt me
You keep tearing me apart
Would you please have mercy on me
I'm a puppet on your strings
And even though you got good intentions
I need you to set me free
Would you please have mercy, mercy on my heart?
Would you please have mercy, mercy on my heart?
Consuming all the air inside my lungs
Ripping all the skin from off my bones
I'm prepared to sacrifice my life
I would gladly do it twice
Consuming all the air inside my lungs
Ripping all the skin from off my bones
I'm prepared to sacrifice my life
I would gladly do it twice
Oh, please have mercy on me
Take it easy on my heart
Even though you don't mean to hurt me
You keep tearing me apart
Would you please have mercy on me?
I'm a puppet on your string
And even though you got good intentions
I need you to set me free
I'm begging you for mercy, mercy
I'm begging you, begging you, please, baby
I'm begging you for mercy, mercy
Ooh, I'm begging you, I'm begging you, yeah
I finish by doing the hum thing again and the doc and nurses applaud for me, making me smile.
"You're so good at singing, baby." My girlfriend says and kisses my cheek. "Thanks." I say.
"I'm gonna go to sleep now." I say, earning a laugh from everyone in the room as I shut my eyes.

Unstable and weakened, will he be more hindrance than help? Can he become the warrior he once was?A Monk and a Monkey journey across a world...... where the remnants of technology are seen as magic, while pockets of humanity strive to drag themselves out of ignorance.... where the descendants of animal-human hybrids, once created as instruments of war, now seek to dominate the world as demons.... where beings who call themselves Immortals and Gods preoccupy themselves with selfish pastimes, ignoring everything else. Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.

The Bracelet I Got Was More Than I Bargained For
Andrew and his friends, Isaac, Lisbeth, and Cameron meet a shady man on the way home from school. This man promises them adventure on another world, called Calorin, if they are willing to help him with an experiment. This experiment requires the use of a bracelet, one that cannot be removed once bonded to but will give them abilities such as healing or enhanced strength. Thanks to some peer pressure Andrew reluctantly agrees to join the experiment. The friends are soon on their way to Calorin but Andrew notices feelings coming from the bracelet, ones that want nothing to do with the strange man. It is just before they arrive at their destination that the bracelet changes everything for Andrew and he finds himself separated from his friends and the strange man. Stuck in the middle of a forest Andrew will need to find out where he is, how to find his friends, and why the bracelet has been acting the way it has. Author's Note:This story is a sidequel/prequel to Artifice: Tools of the Gods. As it only has one or two connected characters there is no need to read one or the other to understand them.
