《The Guy Named Harrison: Book One》78

First came his blue practice jersey. He tossed that in the backseat. Then came his shoulder pads. He was left in just a long sleeve shirt.
Attempting to keep the truck straight, he reached behind his seat and grabbed a pair of boots he now thankfully kept in his truck. He switched his left foot to the gas pedal as he yanked off his cleat and threw it in front of the passenger seat. Then went the other.
He didn't stop to grab a jacket out of his locker. And he didn't think he had a coat in his truck. Harrison was probably going to freeze his ass off, but it would be worth it if Carrie was okay.
She better be. Their baby better be. Or he didn't know how he would handle it.
Harrison lashed out and punched the steering wheel as he drove. Tears now dotted his vision. What if she wasn't? Or their baby wasn't?

He drove for what seemed like hours until he saw her white Jeep in the ditch on the side of the road. From what it looked like, the emergency crews had just gotten there. There was a huge dent in the drives side door and side of her Jeep.
Harrison was out of his truck when he spotted the other car that must've hit her. It had to be the only way. There was damage everywhere on the other car.
He sprinted through the snow to where the firefighters were still trying to unlock the damaged door. That was very concerning. She couldn't crawl out of the other side because the Jeep was on an angle in the ditch, but she didn't try to come out the top.
One of the firefighters tried to stop him. "I'm her fiancé."
They let him go. He could see her through the tinted window. She looked okay. Harrison placed his hand against the window. Carrie placed her hand on the other side.

The firefighters were taking a long time to unlock the damaged door. He pointed to the other window and covered his eyes, hoping she would get the message. Carrie turned away and covered her eyes with her hands.
Harrison balled his fist. This was going to hurt. A lot. He punched the glass window very hard. Cracks formed all along the window as his knuckles started to bleed. He did it again, this time breaking the window completely.
"Carrie!"
"Harrison!"
He opened the door from the inside before unbuckling her and lifting her out of her beloved Jeep.
There was an ambulance now parked behind the fire truck. He carried her over there and into the ambulance to get her out of the cold. She didn't have any visible injuries as the paramedics began to check her out.
"Harrison your hand."
He looked down at it. His right hand was gushing blood. It was dripping down the rest of his hand and into a little puddle.
"I'm fine."
"No you're not."
Carrie was right. He wasn't. His hand hurt like hell, and there were small pieces of glass sticking out. "You need to get that looked at."
Once one of the paramedics saw his hand, she swore, and made a beeline for supplies.
"Carrie, I need you to tell me everything that happened. Can you remember?"
She nodded and explained to him that she was driving along when a car spun out while coming the other way. There wasn't enough time for her to stop, or she would've spun herself out. They spun right into the side of her Jeep and pushed her into the ditch.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine."
Now the paramedic was able to slow the bleeding in his hand and was able to pull the shards of glass out. Luckily for Harrison, he wouldn't need stitches. The glass just cut his hand in a bunch of tiny places.

"You didn't even get in an accident and you look worse than me," Carrie told him.
She was worried about him now. What if he broke his hand, or injured it badly enough he couldn't play in 9 days?
"I'm okay. Trust me."
❺❾
Harrison sat with Carrie on his lap as the paramedics finished bandaging his hand. They didn't know if it was broken yet. He would have to go for x-rays.
Now he was regretting punching the window a little bit. But at the same time he wasn't. The time he saved by breaking the window could've been life or death for her if it would've been a whole lot worse.
He kissed her cheek gently. "I love you."
"I love you too Harrison. Thank you."
