《Harrisons - The Last Chapter》Chapter Thirteen: Nothing's Too Easy.

"Uncle Silas, Can I have that one too?" Kathie pointed towards yet another piece of strawberry shortcake. Silas heaved a sigh, his niece is obsessed with everything pink and purple. He turn to look at her, determined to tell her that she had already bought enough pastry – that's what Marcus told him – don't let her buy more than one. Silas has already defied his brother's conditions and let Kathie select two of those sweet treats – he was certain he was not going to let her buy the third one, but when he looked down at her, she was looking back at him with her big beautiful eyes.
Silas couldn't say no. He sighed defeatedly and nodded her head. "Yes!" Kathie threw her small fist in the air with a big grin plastered on her face. She won – she always does. Silas smiled and asked the baker to pack the three pastries Kathie has chosen while he took his credit card out of his wallet. He will let Marcus scold him, but he can't possibly let Kathie down. How can anyone say no to those beautiful big puppy eyes of hers? Silas doesn't understand how Marcus or Charlie ever say no to this beautiful girl – he could never.
"Cute," Silas looked behind him when he heard a soft mumble. There stood a young woman, looking down at Kathie with a smile on her face. She looked like a university student to Silas, with a campus identification card hanging around her neck and a few thick books that she held in her left hand. A half unzipped bag hanging from her shoulder and a pair of glasses resting on the bridge of her nose.
The girl glanced at Silas and smiled, "She is very cute," She pointed towards Kathie, who was busy gawking the baker putting her pastries in a box. Silas returned her smile and nodded his head, "She is." He replied politely before he turned back around and completed his payment.
"Thank you," Silas smiled at the young man that stood behind the counter. Silas saw a small tips jar that was almost empty except for a few coins and a couple of dollar bills in it. Since it was a small bakery – Silas is sure this boy doesn't get a lot of tips, so he took his wallet out again and took a couple of hundred dollar bills from it, and put them into the jar.
The young man's eyes widened, Silas smiled at him. The boy opened his mouth – he wasn't sure how to thank Silas, but Silas didn't want him to thank him so he waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it. You bake very tasty treats. Keep it up." He complimented the baffled boy, who grinned at the compliment. They were truly tasty – Silas had their muffin just a few hours ago – so did Kathie and she loved it too. That's why she asked her uncle Silas to buy her one more treat but ended up buying three.
He looked down at Kathie who held the pastry box in her hands and was looking at it with so much love, it made Silas chuckle. "Come on, Kathie. Let's go." He took his hand out for her to take. Kathie gladly held Silas's hand and the two of them turned around to walk out of the bakery.
Silas had taken Kathie out, while Marcus was busy with some end moment wedding tasks and Charlie was getting ready. Elizabeth was taking care of Ezra and Ella and Maria was helping Charlie while Owen and Marcus were a few tiny arrangements. Since it has been a while since Silas spend some time with Kathie, he decided to take her out to the park.

Silas heard a scoff following, "Pfft, imagine being filthy rich. So easy. It must be a dream being a Harrison. Money, drama, and whatnot," Silas's stopped dead on his way out when he heard the familiar feminine voice from the bakery. She was trying to keep her voice low, but Silas caught each word. It was that university student. Silas slowly turned around to see her busy looking into her wallet. She didn't think Silas heard her but from the look on the boy behind the counter, it was clear – she didn't speak it under her breath like she intended to.
Silas sniggered and stepped back into the bakery while holding Kathie's small hand in his. He hates it. He hates how people outside are so quick to judge because he had money. He works hard for what he has. He spends days and nights creating strategies, business plans, and whatnot. And the drama? It might be like a drama for an outsider, but for him and his family – it was hell. She doesn't know how painful it has been for him – for his family. Just because he was born in a rich household, doesn't mean he has it easy, and even if it is – why do people assume that it is their right to judge others on their status?
"Roy, can I please have two chocolate muffins to go?" The girl asked unaware of Silas standing right behind her, while – Roy glanced at Silas standing behind the girl and gulped. He could see that Silas Harrison did not appreciate her comment. The girl looked at Roy to see him looking behind her nervously, so she turned around to see Silas herself. The small smile she had slipped off her face. There stood the mighty Silas Harrison with a scowl on his face – glaring at her.
"You shouldn't be making comments on the matter you do not know about," He spoke slowly but sternly. The girl opened her mouth to answer him back. She was going to tell him that he understood it wrong, she didn't mean to be disrespectful, but Silas didn't let her have a say. "And what exactly do you think is easy? Care to elaborate?" He asked her squinting his eyes.
Silas knows that if Maria was here, she would have tried to defuse the matter – or would not have let it accelerate it, but he is Silas – he has always been easy to provoke, unlike his elder brother. The girl opened and closed her mouth before she exhaled, "Listen, Mr. Harrison. I didn't mean to disrespect you. I was just staying a commoner thought, that's it. And with no disrespect, I don't believe you have it worse than us," She waved her hand between herself and Roy, who didn't look too pleased being dragged into it.
Silas narrowed his eyes and let the woman continue, "I am sorry, but we weren't born with silver spoons in our mouths. We have to work just as hard as you, Mr. Harrison, and what is the result for us? We are buried under loans and overdue bills and insurance while you – well, you add millions in your already infinite wealth," She explained. "I am sick of people like you thinking that us – the middle class, isn't working hard enough." She added frustratedly. She had spoken more than she should have, but what is done is done. It doesn't happen every day when you meet a millionaire/billionaire in a small bakery to rant to.

Silas didn't answer her back for a couple of minutes. He sighed and calmly put his hand in his pocket, while with the other he was still holding Kathie's hand, who looked bored and ready to leave. "What is your name?" He asked – squinting his eyes.
The girl raised her eyebrow and folded her arms, shielding her ID card behind them. "Why? So, you could kick me out of university or make sure I never get a job anywhere in the future?" She asked.
Silas twisted his mouth, "What?" He pinched in his eyebrows. "What kind of movies have you watching, Miss? I must say you live far from reality," He sniggered. "No one can stop you from getting a job – maybe my influence can stop a few small businesses, but nothing more than that. I run business, not politics, Madam. So, if you don't mind – can I have your name, please?" He asked – his tone was taunting.
The girl didn't enjoy his wittiness, but she prevent herself from being rude to him. She didn't want him to get in her way in the future. No matter what he says, she doesn't believe him when he says that he doesn't intend to harm her already questionable career. She rolled her tongue over her inner cheek, "Josephine. Josephine Powell," She spoke. She wanted to slap herself for giving her full name to him.
Silas nodded his head, "Okay, Miss Powell. How about I let you peek into the reality. I have a proposal for you. You work with me and the other executive managers of Harrison Enterprise for a month –" He paused and chuckled before he shook his head, "No, not even a month – make it a week. You will equally take part in all the executive decisions and work the hours we work and even if by the end of the week you prove me your worth – I will give you a job at Harrison Enterprise – at the salary you select." He told her calmly with a small smug smile on his face.
Josephine's eyes widened. "And if I fail?" She asked.
Silas smiled, "You accept that it isn't easy being a Harrison," He replied. Silas held his hand out for her to shake his hand, "What do you say?" He crooked his eyebrow at her – challenging the young woman.
Josephine glanced down at his hand before she looked at her. Determination sparkled in her eyes, "Deal," She shook his hand – what is there to lose for her, right?
Elizabeth rolled her eyes after what her father told her. Her cousins were coming to the united states in a month. What a disaster it will be. "Whatever, dad. Let them be here, but please don't expect me to take part in anything they do. It is bad enough we are related," She spoke dully.
Owen heaved a sigh, "Don't be like that, Elizabeth. Monica might be a bit – well, you know." Owen shrugged making Elizabeth chuckle. "But her sons are very hardworking boys. They have potential, I support their decision to expand their interests here in the US as well," He shrugged.
Elizabeth huffed, "No one watches football (soccer for my dear Americans) here!" She exclaimed.
Owen smiled, "There are people who enjoy it, Lizzy." He sighed. "And the leagues they have in mind – I think their idea will work." He pointed out. Elizabeth rolled her eyes and dismissively shrugged. Owen shook his head, "I don't understand why you children don't get along." He commented. Elizabeth decided not to dive into her family politics.
Owen chuckled at his daughter – she doesn't like Monica's children at all. She and Noel used to be such good friends when they were little, but they grew apart over time and now they can't stand each other and for Eugene – well, Owen understands why his daughter isn't fond of Monica's youngest son – he is a bit spoiled. Even Owen finds him irritating – but even with his quirks, he has the potential to achieve many successes. Owen decided to drop the matter and was about to ask Elizabeth about the minor wedding preparations that she was supposed to do when the door of his room opened and walked in Marcus – already dressed in his tuxedo. He shouldn't be looking as irritated as he seemed. "Your son is an idiot," Marcus announced.
Owen squinted his eyes, "Which one? You or Silas?" He had to ask. Elizabeth snorted and Marcus flared his nostril.
"Silas," He pointed out. Owen sighed and leaned back into his chair, "What did he do now?" He asked. Just when Marcus was about to answer his father, Silas walked in. Owen looked at his younger son, "What did you do, Silas?" He asked him.
"Dad, I didn't do anything stupid." He glared at Marcus, who rolled his eyes. "I just did something in the heat of the moment." He defended himself.
Elizabeth exhaled and stood up on her feet, "Please don't tell me you cheated on Maria," She spoke defeatedly – she was not ready for the drama. She already had enough of it the first time.
Silas pinched his eyebrows together, "What?! Are you crazy, Elizabeth?!" He yelled at her. Elizabeth flinched at his loud voice and put her finger on her ear, "Jesus, Lizzy." It was Marcus who mumbled. "If he had, I would have already killed him." He added with a shrug, while Silas was still looking at Elizabeth like she had grown another head.
"Is it about work?" She asked again.
Marcus nodded, "Yes!" He said and glared back at his brother, who rolled his eyes.
"Okay, I am out. I will go and check on Charlie and see where my boyfriend is," She mumbled and prepared to walk out. She walked past Silas and stopped beside Marcus, "And you shouldn't be so engrossed with work today, Marcus. It is your wedding day." She told him.
Marcus sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, "Yes, I know. This is important." He pointed out. "I just – he is so stupid!" Marcus glared at Silas.
Before Silas could object, Elizabeth chuckled. "Old news," She scoffed. "Don't take too long, boys. We have a wedding in less than two hours!" She told them before she walked out of the room.
In the other part of the city – far from Marcus's posh and high-end area, in a small room laid Sean with his eyes bloodshot red and a bottle of alcohol clenched in his hand, "She married him," He spoke weakly – looking up at the ceiling. Elna sighed and patted her brother's arm, "I know, Sean. You need to move on. This is insane," She told him.
She has been telling him the same thing since he showed up at her tiny apartment last night and since then he has been drinking and loathing Silas Harrison.
Sean shook his head with tears filled in them, "I will not move on – never. Silas will pay for this. I will not let him win like this," He gritted his teeth.
Elna has been trying to stop her brother, but she now knows that his obsession with Maria has taken another level – she just hopes that he doesn't hurt or get hurt doing whatever he plans because there is one thing she knows, Sean is not stopping just because Maria and Silas are now married again.

Galactic Fist of Legend
In the year 2018 a bright star appeared near Earth. Humanity as a whole was briefly introduced to a race of beings far beyond their understanding. During that brief interaction a proclamation was made, Defeat the Grand Emissary or become the eternal slaves of those who had arrived at Earth. The only chance for victory was for people all across the globe to make a choice. When prompted to become a champion and a play a bizarre game of life or death they could choose yes or no. Those who chose no, went about their lives afterward. All memory of the event was lost despite the fact that their very existence as a free species hung by a single thread. Will those who said yes manage to survive the horror of the game and become strong enough to defeat the Grand Emissary. Can one of them become... The Galactic Fist of Legend. Also, it's a comedy. Pretty obvious, right? Notes: This story will contain graphic violence, stupid humor, nudity, sexiness, and maybe I'll give the main character a pet cat or something. I don't know yet. Still, you need to be pretty mature to properly take care of a pet. Notes2: This story is my answer to stories such as Gantz, Terror Infinity, Battle Royale, Btoom!, and strangely enough... Captain N: The Video Game Master. It is an original story, but it does seek to give a similar vibe to some of those tales of legend. However, it is not meant to be an overly serious tale as I have decided that the new stories that I release in the coming year will be mostly comedies.

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.
