《White Lies || Scaramouche X Reader》Chapter 18 - Another Harbinger has Appeared

《Your POV》
Your immediate reaction was to shut the door on him, but he quickly stopped you.
"How did you know I was here??" You asked, obviously angry.
Childe chuckled innocently, "I saw the shorty walking out of this building with a stupid grin on his face, so I put the pieces together."
You groaned and rolled your eyes. You honestly didn't want to talk with this man. You were exhausted and tired and honestly a bit stressed out, you just wanted to go back to sleep, even if it was already noon.
"I have business to attend to so-" you started.
"Did he tell you yet?" His tone completely changed. It was similar to the last time you talked. What was with these harbingers and switching personalities so quickly?
You looked away, still blocking his way in, "I found out." He stayed silent, as if he was waiting for you to elaborate, "But we worked it out.."
Childe seemed amused, clasping his hands together, "Oooh! A forbidden love, huh? Man, out of all the harbingers, I swore Scaramouche would be the one against it. If anything, I thought I would've been the first one!"
"Are we done here?" You asked, an annoyed look plastered all over your face, hoping he'd catch the hint and leave you be. You didn't have time for this guy's shenanigans.
"I'm just here to warn you again. Even if you think you understand him, he's full of secrets that not even I know about. I'd just be cautious if I were you." He said.
There went that word again. Cautious. Why was everyone repeating that to you? You wondered why anyone would even be concerned about you in the slightest. You knew very well that you might get hurt again in the future, but you were too blinded by his charm to even care.
You folded your arms, "Why are you telling me this?"
"I'm simply worried, that's all," Childe turned around, "Well, I have an important meeting to attend to, good day!" And like that, he walked off.
Something about that guy really made you angry. Was it the way he spoke? Or maybe you just didn't like him because Scaramouche didn't. That was a possibility.

You closed the door, sighing. You could finally go back to sleep and get the much needed rest you deserved.

《Scaramouche's POV》
The wide doors to the hotel slowly opened as Childe walked in. Immediately, Scaramouche knew it was him without even looking, simply because nobody else would be late to a meeting, except Childe.
Childe offered his apologies and sat next to Scaramouche, to which Scaramouche made a sour face. Almost as if Childe had some sort of disease.
"Why are you late?" Scaramouche whispered, not even looking at him.
Childe leaned back in his seat without a care in the world, "I was visiting an old friend~"
Scaramouche became angry, sitting up straighter and looking into Childe's eyes, "Did you-"
"Maybe, maybe not." Childe cut him off. After that remark, Childe grinned teasingly, "It's not like you to engage in such chitchat during an important meeting."
Hearing that made Scaramouche scowl, eventually turning back to the speaker.

Before long, the meeting had come to a close. Fatui members started returning to the rooms they were staying in, after all, the Fatui had rented out the whole hotel.
Scaramouche on the other hand, had other plans. As he was about to leave the building, a voice called out to him. Of course, it was just Childe, so he continued as he was.
"Hey don't ignore me you jerk!" Childe yelled, grabbing Scaramouche's hat and pulling him backwards, causing him to almost fall over.
"What the crap?!" Scaramouche yelled back. He swiftly turned around, giving Childe that look of pure murderous rage.
Childe couldn't help but laugh, "You know I can't take you seriously when you're so short!"
Scaramouche instinctually grabbed Childe's shirt, pulling him upwards, "Say that again, I dare you."
Childe lifted his hands in the air as a signal of peace, eventually leading to Scaramouche letting go.
"Anyways, where are you headed to, lover boy?" Childe smirked, obviously holding back laughter.
He glared at the tall ginger man, "Why should I tell you?!" He turned around and left the building, leaving Childe there to chuckle to himself.

《Your POV》
Lighting a dimly lit candle, you placed it on your desk, right next to a painting of your mother. In front of you was a large book, as well as a stack of other books. You were curious, so you wanted to do some more digging into the infamous Fatui. Of course, you wanted to hide the fact you were basically doing a background check on Scaramouche, so you didn't tell him.

Suddenly your front door swung open, causing you to panic and throw all the books off the table.
"I'm home~" Scaramouche said, smiling in the doorway.
You glared at him, "You don't actually live here you know."
He pouted, closing the door behind him. You stood up, standing in front of the fallen books so he couldn't see, "And I told you to knock! What if I was changing?"
Scaramouche walked up to you, leaning on the desk, "And wouldn't that have been a sight." He smirked, knowing very well that it would make you embarrassed.
"I'm going to kill you," you sighed, sitting back down in the seat. You lifted your hands up to your head. After all the recent events, you had such a huge headache, you wished it would all just go away.
"Is this your mom..?" Scaramouche asked. You glanced over at him, he as looking at the small painting of your mom.
You smiled, resting your head on your arm as you leaned over the desk, "Yeah, it is."
He continued to look at the picture. Oddly enough, you realized Scaramouche never talked about his family. You had no clue what his home life was like. As much as you wished to know, it could've been a touchy subject so you decided to drop the idea.
"I bet she'd be proud of you," he said.
His statement kind of surprised you. It really made you wonder if this was all a facade or if this side of him was genuine.
The mood completely changed when Scaramouche grabbed your hand and pulled you up, "Shall we continue where we left off before?"
You just looked at him a bit flustered. In all honesty, you weren't sure how to react to that question. Of course you wanted to, after all, that's what couples did right? Were you officially even a couple? Neither of you brought it up, so you just assumed so.
"Won't people wonder where you went?" You changed the subject, avoiding his question.
Scaramouche sighed, shaking his head, "They don't really ask me any unnecessary questions. They let me do what I want, so don't worry."
You glared at him. Then, you had an idea, and a brilliant one at that.
"Hey, you consider yourself my boyfriend right?" You asked, innocently smiling.
"Well of course I do~" he answered. He had fallen right into your trap.
"Great!" You turned around, writing a few things on a piece of paper, and then giving it to him, "I need these things. Go buy them."
He reluctantly took the paper from you, staring at it and then at you, almost like he had never been shopping before. That was probably true, if he ever did need to shop for something, he probably just made his soldiers get it for him.
You liked to think that you were helping him overcome his weird superiority complex. Though it seemed less intense when it came to you, he still thought of himself like a god to other people. You didn't necessarily hate it, after all, it made him unique, but it probably wasn't a good trait to have.
"Well, anything for you," Scaramouche walked out, closing the door behind him. You could tell by the tone in his voice, he hated being bosses around, but when it came to you, he didn't mind. Weird.
Since Scaramouche had most likely never shopped in Mondstadt by himself before, you estimated that he would be a while, which gave you plenty of time to get some research done. Not to mention his aggressive attitude towards everyone else, he'd probably get into a few verbal fights along the way.
With him gone, you picked up the books that had fallen and gently placed them back on the desk. You flipped open to the page you left off on and continued to work.
