《Jay Halstead x Reader Story/Imagine》(17. Beckett)

Jay and I were in my apartment, as usual, we had just had dinner and were on the couch. We were both falling asleep on each other when I felt my phone buzz beside me.
"Mmm," Jay hummed in annoyance sleepy.
I turned it and saw Antonio was calling me. I picked up. "Hey what's up? Everything okay?" I asked
"No, someones attempted to kill Voights' family" I sat up taken aback at what I was hearing. "We need everyone back at the office now." He quickly explained.
"We're on our way," I said hanging up and getting up from the couch fully awake now.
"What's wrong?" Jay asked me also waking up and starting to get up.
"We need to change and get to the office, someone tried killing Hank and his family," I told him as I rushed to the bedroom to change.
——————-
We got to the office and everyone was already there except for Kev who arrived shortly after.
I walked up to Hank and gave him a hug. "How's Justin, Olive, and the baby?" I asked him.
"They're fine, they're at the hospital, Natalie's checking on the baby just in case." He told me.
"I'm glad you're ok." I shot him a smile but I could tell he was furious ready to catch the culprit.
Hank was sure he knew who did this. James Beckett, a man he himself had put in prison years prior and who was recently released due to new information provided by Bunny Fletcher.
To the media, there would be no way this was the culprit given that Beckett had made sure to appear as innocent as a baby in all interviews making Hank and the unit look evil.
Catching Beckett was proving harder than we thought, given that he was working through people and we were finding one person after the other but soon enough we would find someone that would lead us right to him.
Jay and I had been put in charge of finding Nathan Whitcomb, a man who possibly took the money. Once we did we brought him into the office and after some not-so-kind persuasion from Hank we were able to get him to meet up with Beckett.
Jay and I were positioned at the top of the building next door to where the meet-up would take place. I had binoculars and I was tasked with keeping a close eye on Whitcomb and Beckett while Jay, using his marksmen skills was tasked with holding a shot on Beckett in case things went south.

Jay and I had finished setting up and we had a while before Beckett was set to show up.
"All good?" I asked him
"Yep, you?" He asked me as well.
"All good." I gave him a thumbs up.
"I don't think I'll ever understand how someone can be ok with killing a baby." I started thinking about Voights family.
"Some people aren't human, worse than animals. I saw it plenty of times in the rangers." Jay sighed leaning on a parked car.
"Did you ever see someone after coming back? Like a therapist I mean?" I asked him.
"Not really, I mean we're offered someone but I only went for a couple of days." He told me and I could tell he preferred to be talking about something else.
"Well, I hope you know it's never too late." I shot him a sincere smile.
"Don't need to anymore. I'm fine." Jay reassured me walking forward to give me a kiss.
I didn't want to push so I changed the subject. "Kim just found out Adam's been engaged twice before her...I hope it's not a deal-breaker." I told him.
"What do you think?" Jay asked me.
"About what?" I asked for clarification.
"D'you think Kim's the one? D'you think Adam's serious about her." He asked me.
"Well, I'd like to say he was serious about his previous engagements but honestly the only one I've ever liked has been Kim." I laughed. "I think he's head over heels for the girl, I just also think he moves fast and he forgets to enjoy what he has sometimes," I told him.
"Hmm, Move Slow." Jay pretended to write on his hand "I'll note that down for sure." He laughed.
He made me laugh and I pretended to kick at him playfully as we heard Voight on the radio asking us to get ready.
Jay and I walked back to our positions and paid full attention to Whitcomb. It was obvious that he was nervous and we were almost sure that if Beckett didn't show up soon he'd make a run for it.
Just as we thought Whitcomb couldn't last any longer Beckett showed up. "Becketts coming in Sarge, everyone on high alert," I spoke to my radio.
"I've got a good shot," Jay spoke into his radio.
"Alright, hold back until I say so," Voight spoke back.
It was obvious Whitcomb was nervous which we thought to be one of the reasons Beckett was so eager to check the duffle bag with the money inside.

"He took the bag." I kept everyone informed as Beckett unzipped it.
Both Jay and I watched as Beckett became visibly angry. "He's onto us." I quickly told everyone but that was enough time for Beckett to have set off a smoke bomb and we had no visibility.
"We've lost visual." I quickly alerted the rest of the team.
Jay and I quickly searched the rest of the building for any sign of Beckett and Whitcomb but the smoke had filled the floor they were on and was slowly moving upwards.
I think I didn't blink once as I kept searching. All of a sudden both Jay and I saw the fake money fluttering up with the wind.
"We've got them Sarge, top floor." Jay quickly alerted everyone.
Although Jay and I still didn't have clear visibility of Beckett and Whitcomb, after a few minutes we spotted Hank drag Beckett to the edge of the building, gun pointed to his face.
Jay and I turned to look at each other knowing what this could mean. We kept a close eye and watched as Alvin approached Hank probably talking him out of whatever he was thinking before Hank released him and Adam cuffed him.
"All right everyone, pack up and head back." We heard Al through the radio.
Jay and I once more turned to look at each other and sighed. I instantly felt my muscles relax not even noticing I had gotten so tense. I holstered my gun and Jay unloaded his and we got in our car that we had parked a few floors down.
"You okay?" Jay asked me placing a hand on my thigh as he started driving.
"Yeah just tense and tired, just wanna get home and sleep." I sighed.
"Sounds good to me." Jay smiled interlocking his hand on mine. He started using my hand to switch gears so he wouldn't let go of it earning a smile from me.
"How about a massage when we get home?" I asked Jay once we were nearly at the district.
"Sure, I'd love one." He smirked. As we got out of the car and up to the district.
"Oh shut up!" I pushed him lightly as he started laughing like a little kid.
"Of course I'll give you one babe." He hugged me from behind as we started walking up the steps.
" I've still got my eyes on you, Halstead." Trudy eyed him as we continued walking.
"Mah, we're together now, you need to stop threatening my boyfriend," I told her giving her an innocent smile.
"That'll never happen." Trudy didn't smile and instead shot another threatening glare at Jay.
I rolled my eyes at her and grabbed Jay's hands to pull him upstairs with me after unlocking the gate.
As I was doing so I heard someone call my name. I turned and saw Kim at the bottom of the stairs. "Hey, Kim what's up?" Jay waited for me.
"Can I talk to you for a second?" She asked me.
"Sure." I turned to Jay. "I'll meet you back at the car." I told him and he headed upstairs.
Kim led me to the downstairs locker room. "Uhmm, I know you and Adam are really close and well-" Kim kept stuttering.
"Kim just spit it out, don't worry about it," I assured her.
"I just wanted to ask you if he thinks he's serious about me? I mean I love him and I think he does too but I mean if he's been engaged twice before-" She started rambling.
"Kim." I stopped her and she looked up at me. "Adam loves you, I know he does. But the way you're feeling right now...you should be talking to him about that, not me." I gave her my opinion.
She nodded. "Yeah, yeah no I'm just overthinking things, forget I said anything." She started walking away.
"Kim, you can talk to me whenever but talk to him," I advised her again.
When I went back to the front to head to the car Jay was already coming down the stairs. "Voight questioned me about us. I told him we were dating, he doesn't have a problem with it if we don't let it interfere with work." He told me and I could tell he was a little nervous.
"Did he seem mad at all?" I got a little nervous too.
"Not really, just told me not to hurt you. And I don't know if that was a threat or just a comment." He laughed.
"Oh, I'm sure you're fine if you don't hurt me." I shrugged and started to walk to the exit.
"Wait what?" I heard Jay running after me making me laugh to myself.

A D&D Gamer in Garweeze Wurld
He doesn't know how he got here, and while the trappings are familiar, he doesn't actually know where he is, either. From the perspective of those around him, Duromar is a half-ogre barbarian, an uncivilized brute by any standard you care to use. But from his perspective, he's a character created in a gaming system. From either one, he must live within the rules of that system. This is the story of a gamer who ends up in a game that's just a bit off from what he knows. ---- I wanted to write something a little bit old-school. Most of the LitRPG I've found seems to be based on computer RPG styled stories. Progression through levels is fast, and depending on the game, skills and even attributes can be trained with or without class levels. This wasn't true with the older pen and paper games, and that's the style of leveling I wanted to write.
