《Jay Halstead x Reader Story/Imagine》(42.2. Trigger)

Gabby and Brett had given me the all-clear and just like Trudy I wanted nothing more than get back to the precinct and start investigating. Thankfully Trudy and I were okay but a lot of people were hurt in this explosion and we needed to put a stop to it before anything happened again.
We were back at the precinct and Adam had updated Jay and me on what Antonio had found out from Sheri before she went into cardiac arrest. Right now we assumed Sheri was the target since she had been receiving death threats.
We tried to trace back the box in which the bomb was in and we found the name, Eric Mitchell. Voight instructed Jay and me to go to Eric Mitchell's house to talk to him and possibly bring him in. We had just arrived when we saw him walk out of his house.
"Eric Mitchell?!" I yelled getting his attention as he walked over to his mailbox.
"Yes, that's me." Jay and I continued walking towards him.
And in a split second, we watched as the mailbox exploded in front of him causing Jay and I to fall back from the blast. "Y/n you okay?" Jay quickly got up helping me up too.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I quickly brushed it off as we both ran to Mitchell's body only to find his head had been blown off.
I watched as neighbors started coming out of the houses some looking at Mitchell's body in shock. "Jay you're jacket." I quickly whispered to him.
Jay quickly understood as he took his jacket off laying it over Mitchell's body keeping him as out of sight as possible.
We called it in and we knew this was now getting more serious, the same person who placed the bomb in the building had just killed Eric Mitchell and he was probably not gonna be the last one.
After a lot of research and following multiple leads we came to the name, Larry. The whole team went to investigate his house to find a room filled with creepy photos of Sheri, except when we tried to trace Larry down we found out that he had disappeared 3 months prior and there was no trace of him. Luckily, we were finally able to find the name of the guy who bought the C4, George Lehr, and after some research, we came to find that he had previous heart episodes and he had been treated by paramedics not long ago so we knew we had to ask for help from the girls at 51 now.

Antonio and Hank were gonna head to 51 to talk to Chief Boden, Casey, and Kelly. "Alright, I want you to keep tabs on Lehr and if there's anything suspicious call me. Kim, Hailey and Adam should be coming in a couple of hours so you both can tap out then, come back tomorrow morning." Hank told Jay and me since we were going to be the only 2 people left at the office.
"Copy that Sarge." I nodded and so did Jay.
We did as told and after Kim and Hailey came in Jay and I decided to take off. Jay had recently bought a motorcycle which he was really excited about, he had begged me to let him drive me around but I never gave in, until today but only because my car windows had been blown during the explosion.
"Jay you're gonna go as slowly as this thing goes." I was dead serious while Jay was laughing.
"Babe I would never do anything to put you in danger." he giggled while putting a helmet on my head and strapping it on. He then took a second to look at me in my helmet. "You look so cute." he kissed the top of my helmet before closing the visor.
"Ok, where's your helmet?" I surprised myself with how loud my voice echoed in the helmet.
"Right here bebe." He showed me as he placed it over his head, swinging a leg over the bike. "Okay get on." he held the bike up with one hand while offering me the other.
"Jay I swear if you start speeding this thing I'll arrest you myself." I was so nervous.
"Alright, baby hold on." He laughed. He didn't even have to tell me since I immediately wrapped my arms around his waist holding him tightly.
He started driving and at first, I had my eyes squeezed shut before I realized it was okay, I opened one eye and then the other and I wasn't tensing anymore as I took in the city passing us. "Wow, this is actually pretty cool," I admitted.
"Told you." Even though I couldn't see his face I knew he was smiling.
We then heard our radio's, an explosion being reported a couple of blocks away from us. "Let's go take a look." I told Jay and he nodded taking the next street to the location.

Once we got there we saw that Squad 3 and Truck 51 were there. Jay hopped off and then helped me off. I took the helmet off like Jay. Boden and Kelly started approaching us. "We heard you guys on the radio," Jay told them. "Thought we might come check it out."
Jay explained while I gave Kelly a quick hug and greeted Matt and Boden. "Glad you're okay y/n" Casey winked.
"All thanks to this guy." I smiled patting Kelly's chest over his uniform. "Just wish I could've done more for Sheri." I admitted.
"You kept her alive until the paramedics took over...that's a win in my eyes, take it." Boden told me.
———————-
Kelly, Casey and Boden ended up getting more involved in the case and I was very pleased to see that Kelly and Jay were getting along very peacefully and respectfully.
Kelly and Boden chased a lead using their connections in the CFD and they were able to get us a big lead. We thought we knew where the next bomb was going to be so quickly suited up and made our way there, Boden calling for back up from the guys at 51.
We got to the building and quickly started surrounding the building only to come to the realization that the bomb was in the train station.
We all ran out making calls and Boden redirecting his unit. We made it there and the guys from 51 had already started evacuating people.
Jay, Hank and I made it to the platform where we thought the bomb was going to be. Casey and Kelly ran down evacuating people while Jay, Hank and I k tried spotting the bomber from the top.
Finally my eyes caught the guy and I saw Kelly notice too, I knew he wasn't going to move. "Kelly!" I yelled more to myself running down quickly.
I started running as fast as I could and I could see the guys finger inching closer and closer to the trigger. "Y/N!" I heard Hank and Jay yelling my name.
Just as I was about to get there Kelly and Casey launched themselves on the guy bringing him down but I could see his grip was still tight around the trigger. I grabbed his hand prying his fingers apart with all the strength I could muster finally taking a hold of the trigger.
I pushed myself back away from the guy being careful and I could feel my heart beating out of my chest from what just happened.
Jay and Hank placed the guy in handcuffs then Hank took him away while Jay and Kelly both walked over to me. "Here." Jay extended his hand so I passed him the trigger.
Kelly helped me up. I punched his chest lightly "You could have died!" I scolded him.
"You too!" He giggled at my worry.
"You scared the crap out of me." I then gave him a tight hug which he returned.
"Wasn't she mad like a second ago?" Kelly talked to Jay.
"Yeah she tends to do that...but I think it's cute." I heard Jay sigh.
"Oh shush." I laughed.
"You could've died too you know?" Jay argued.
"Yeh but you know me...tend to do that a lot." I used his words winking at him and laughing.
"Yeah well I don't think that's cute." We all laughed as we walked out of the train station.
"Can we go home now?" I asked Jay once the bomb had been diffused and we had handed everything we needed too.
"Motorcycle?" Jay pulled me into him by my waist.
"No please my heart rate hasn't lowered since this morning I think it might just stop if I don't relax." I put my arms around his neck.
"Let's get in a cab then." He leaned down to kiss me.
"Yes please." I kissed him back.
"I love you and even though I hate when you put yourself in situations like this...I'm glad you're okay." Jay smirked.
"I love you too." I laughed bringing my lips up to his again.

Queer Tales From A Street Nominally Associated With Your Reality
The street is not from your world, and yet it's attached, clinging like a shadowy limpet to the edge of your London, your city skyline stabbing into it from above. Or well that's what we tell ourselves, no one who lives here really knows. We are after all just regular folk displaced from our original realities. Just a bunch of folks with queer tales from a street nominally associated with your reality. What to expect: - A series of interlinked short stories gradually unpacking the lives, complications and mysteries associated with those who live in the street - A weird pseudo-British setting where physics works inconsistently, and houses move position regularly - Stories filled with LGBTQ+ characters, and in particular ones on the trans/nonbinary spectrum - Potentially iffy grammar, I'm new to publishing my work online, so whilst I am checking things before posting it’s a near certainty that some things will slip through - A schedule of one chapter every two weeks.
