There was an uncomfortable silence coupled with a bunch of incoherent words from Mason. Michael placed Mason on the chair closest to him

Michael was the first to speak

"Mason has definitely gone crazy, I mean, he just called Megan his mate" he said and started laughing

"Yeah...dude I don't think...." Adrian was about to say but Megan kicked him on his leg making him yelp

"I know right. Pftt, there's no way he can be my mate, like, he's a wolf and I'm a vampire and that stuff is sooo impossible and illegal and..."

"Okay we get it" I said, shutting Megan up. Everyone here seemed to know the truth except Michael. He was really buying Megan's excuse

"Yeah, Bella, please fix Mason before he totally runs mad" he said, pointing at mason who just turned on the chair and hugged his leg

"Whatever, please help me get him out of here, at this state, he could change anytime soon" she said and Michael and Adrian nodded, taking him out of the room

I turned to look at Megan but she wasn't there so I looked at my back and saw her staring at Arielle

"What happened this time" she said in a bored tone

Why was everyone saying that?

"A witch blah blah blah blood blah blah blah so now she's unconscious" I said and Megan just looked at me making me sigh

"She sniffed that..." I pointed at the black stuff on the table "well, a witch probably attacked her and made it with her blood stuff and stuff. The point is, Mason also sniffed it and now he's temporarily crazy"

"Oh" she replied and looked at her hands

"Mason is your mate right" I asked her and she nodded

"Woah... and I thought I was the one with mate problems" I said with a frown

"We're cursed children" she said and we both laughed

"What am I going to do? I can't reject him, vampires can't reject their mates"

"And Mason can't become an alpha without his mate and he's expected to find his mate soon." I said

"Yeah....should we tell mom and dad?" she asked and I looked at her

"Are you crazy? If they find out, they'd take it to the council and if the council finds out, they'd order that you get married immediately and kill Mason if he refuses, knowing Mason, he would refuse! And then that will start a war..." I said

"Okay okay don't scream at me" Megan mumbled and I sighed

"Let's get out of here. They're probably looking for us" we stood up and left the room

We walked back to the hall in silence, both of us too occupied in our thoughts to start a conversation. I opened the door to the hall and we were met with curious glares. We entered the hall and walked in but we couldn't get too far before my mother came too us

"Where were you two? We've been looking all over for you" she said and signaled one of the slaves to come over

"We went out for a bit" Megan said and forced out a smile

"Really, What about Adrian? And Mason is also nowhere to be seen..." she asked again

"well..."

"They decided to sort out their problems personally so they both went out for a run" I cut Megan off and said, referring to the fake fight they had

"You children are so impossible. You're supposed to dance with some of the young ladies. Now come on, the dance is about to start. And you too Megan, Devon has found his mate but you haven't" mother said and took our hands

"And you" she pointed to the slave "go look for Prince Adrian and bring him over." she said and was about to leave but she looked up "there he is" she frowned. She left us to meet Adrian and drew him by the ears

"Now you all go meet my sister" she said and pointed at Adrian's mother who was already mentally beating us up

We slowly walked up to Queen Rachel (Adrian's mom and Queen of silvatorem)

"Idiots" she said and slapped both of our heads making Megan laugh but she shut up when Rachel gave her a look

"May I have your attention everyone" Queen Rachel said and the whole place became quiet

"Sorry for the delay but now the dance can begin" she said and everyone clapped as the slow boring music started playing

Some vampires, elites and nobles came to the dance floor and started dancing

The first girl I danced with was an Elite from Amadonai. She was talkative and spoilt. She didn't even tell me her name

Then we switched partners and I ended up with a noble from my kingdom. She was less chatty and really shy. Nice but definitely not queen material

We switched partners again and I ended up with another Elite from Lavarre. She was really funny and sassy but she didn't seem to want to do this

"You really don't want a mate, do you?" I asked and she shrugged

"How do you know?" she asked and I touched my temple

"I read minds" I said and she nodded

"The truth is...I've already found my mate" she said and I raised my brow

"Then why are you doing this then, you don't like him?" I asked

"No no no, it's not that. I really like him, in fact, I love him" she said with a smile "but my parents don't. He's a normal vampire with no special position. My parents think he isn't worth being my mate. They want me to get married to either a Royal or elite, they don't even like nobles, to them nobles are just privileged humans" she said and sighed

"That isn't right" I said with a frown

"I know" she mumbled and put her head on my shoulder

"Hmm...should I also tell you a secret" I asked, I shouldn't be telling her this but ...

"I guess ..." she said and raised her head. I leaned in closer to her ear and whispered

"I also don't want to do this"

"Why? Have you also found your mate?" she asked but I couldn't answer because it was already time to switch. I mouthed 'we'd talk later' and she nodded as the other guy took her away. I looked down to see who my new partner is and I frowned

"Hey prince Devon" Gwen said, battling her lashes

"Nope" I said and pushed her away, leaving her on the dance floor

I went to where the drinks were served and took a glass of blood

I observed the dance floor and looked at my sister. She was dancing with the guy that almost killed Arielle some time ago, Elite Alex and they were both standing in the middle of the dance floor. She laughed at something he said and that made me smile, but that changed when I looked up

"Megan" I shouted and ran over to where she was and pushed both of them away, just as the chandelier fell.

There were a lot of surprised gasp and whispers. The three of us stood up and immediately our parents came over

"Oh my, are you guys okay" Alex mom asked while my mom searched us for injuries

"Mom, we're fine. It wouldn't have killed us anyways" I said and Alex turned to me

"Thanks for that"

"Yeah I wonder what happened" Megan said and looked at the ceiling

"I'll get someone to clean this place up; you guys should go with the ball"

"No mom. I think it's time for the ball to end" I said

"But your father..."

"I'd explain to him later" I said and walked out of the ball with Megan following behind

"Do you think...?" Megan asked as we entered my room. I turned on the light and lay on my bed

"Yes I think. It can't just be a coincidence. Dad made sure that every single thing was checked and repaired." I said and Megan sat down on the bed, struggling wither gown a bit

"Did I tell you you look beautiful today?" I asked and she hit my head

"Ouch" I said, rubbing my head

"You didn't! What kind of a brother are you" she shouted

"Whatever. I need to change and check up on Arielle" I said and stood up but turned to look at Megan when she made no attempt to leave

"I said I need to change"

"So?" she asked

"So get out" I said

"c'mon, it's nothing I haven't seen before" she said as I walked her to the door

"Well there's no need to see it again. Get out" I slammed the door on her

I changed into a simple t-shirt and shorts and walked out of my room

I walked closer to the room Isabella put Arielle and saw her on the way

"Where's Mason?" I stopped and asked

"I asked Michael to set up a room for him. He's still sleeping" she said and we walked to the room

"She should be awake by now" I said

"Hopefully"

I opened the door and turned on the lights.

I looked at the floor and saw Arielle trying to stand up

"Arielle!" I rushed to her and picked her up. I walked out of the room, closing the door with my foot, Isabella following me

She mumbled something about Korean men but what she did next stopped me in my tracks. She put her hands around my neck and pressed herself closer to me, she definitely wouldn't have done that if she was in the right state of mind. She whispered something about being sleepy before she went limp in my hands. I continued walking and stopped when I had to open the door to my room

"Don't worry, I'll open it" Isabella said but I stopped her

"no, it needs my fingerprint and the key is inside' I said

"Have you forgotten what I am" she said and mumbled something, making the door open

"Shit. I'd need some spell in other to prevent more of your kind from entering your room" I said and dropped Arielle on the bed

"Whatever, I'd do that tomorrow"

"Can you watch over her for a while? I need to feed" I said and she smiled

"You didn't like the blood they served at the ball" she asked

"It was nice but I think people would have been worried if they saw me drinking a lot of blood when I have a pet" I said and walked out

Well, at least now I have an idea of who attacked Arielle, someone with a scar....

"How did it go" I asked the hooded figure in front of me.

"I...it was okay. I made the chandelier fall, just as you asked" she stammered. She was still scared of me...good

"And no one got hurt?"

"No one got hurt" she replied

"What about Arielle? Is she still a threat to the plan?" I asked and leaned forward

"i-I don't t-think so. Although I c-couldn't finish the spell before the vampire came in b-but I don't think it's enough to pose a-as a threat" she said and I smiled

"Very good. When the werewolf wakes up, tell him to see me" I said and sipped from my cup
