《Something about Alan》Chapter 16

So!
I was thinking...
Listen here, you miss nosy; I was thinking maybe you can tell me more about yourself.
I shared significant parts of my life and as a friend; obviously, I would like to know more about you too.
Seriously, so you randomly talk to strangers?
Maybe we should meet.
Why? Are you still worried about people talking behind our back about the so-called hidden relationship?
That's ridiculous. I don't blame you, though. I think it is this place. It's such a small city that rumors could spread fast.
Wait... you didn't tell your parents about your breakup?
But---
Don't tell me your parents started picturing a future of yours with Jack.
...
*laughs*
I am sorry. That's so horrible. Did they think you are going to get married to him in the future?
I am sorry for your parents when they come to know about this.
Come on, no one is serious during high school days. It's more or less a fling, that's all.
Wait a minute. You were thinking---
About?
Write what?
Jeez, why are you screaming?
You didn't tell it properly, alright. You could have just said I am a writer.
Ok. He wasn't being supportive of it?
And then what happened?
Obsessed with writing? Why do you want to finish it before your high school?
In all that delusion, you moaned out your character's boyfriend's name, which is Alan?
Honestly, no one would believe it.
But I believe you, Jo.
The only thing which is making me upset is that you were not fantasizing about me when kissing your boyfriend. How I wish that rumor was true!
What? I am not bossy, but when I first came here, everyone's eyes were on me.
Are...?
See you cannot even think of an excuse!
Thinking about me, that's ok. Happens.

Man, if it wasn't my aunt and uncle getting divorced...
They were like second parents to me. Just like that, everything fell apart. I couldn't stay there for a minute. I took my bags, called mom, and got here.
I know. I was just so annoyed. When I got here, I so wanted to go back to New York, to my aunt. Anyway, I asked her to come here, to spend time with mom.
I miss that place so much though.
...
Right.
Do I have to get drunk and cry out how much I miss her?
Done. Let's meet tomorrow and I will cry out my feeling to you.
Oh, come on! I. Want. To. Meet. You
Aren't you curious to know about the person you have been talking on the phone? To know how they look when they laugh, how their eyes go wide when they see something surprising, how their freckle cheeks blossom itself when they smile, how their brown curly hair tangles itself when there is a gush of wind---
What?
...
What, I was just being randomly descriptive.
...
...
*call ended*
"You son of a----"
"Hey, Jo!" I heard mom calling out, yet again, from outside my bedroom.
I shifted around, checking the time, and it was just 9.
"Mom, it isn't bedtime yet!" I said in a haste, going through my message inbox to see if Alan has texted something or not.
"I know, hon. I just have good news." She said, clapping her hands joyfully as she came into my room.
I raised my eyebrows in surprise. "What you just did was weird. Anyway, what is it?"
She stood in front of me with a grin on her face. "I invited Jack for dinner."
"What?" I stood up, standing on my bed, towering over mom.
"Why are you so upset?" mom demanded. "He looked more than happy."
"I mean...wh- why now... I am not dressed properly."
She chuckled, walking away. "You dumbhead, it's for tomorrow. I am surprised he didn't tell you that."
"Maybe, he will... in school tomorrow."
"Goodnight hon." She said, closing the door.
"Nothing is good about this night," I mumbled, falling back on my bed.

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
