《Remember Me》|[4]|

Conner opened his eyes, finding himself reliving a memory. He was in his apartment, looking at the dissolved photo. In his memory, everything was black and white, like old movies he'd seen as a kid. He accidentally dropped the photo in surprise. Conner reached down and picked the photo up again, realizing he could move around in this memory. When he picked up the paper, the watered-down color began to return to the dissolving photo. His eyes widened in amazement, looking around the black and white apartment, giddily running his hands across anything he could touch, until most of the apartment was back to its usual colorful existence.
He ran into his bedroom, restoring the color to the rest of his room. Conner looked up at his shelf, where a grey beanie lay, devoid of any sheen of color. Conner picked it up and it slowly turned a bright purple. There was a loud crash in his kitchen, so Conner walked out of his room to see what had caused the noise.
His face filled with terror as he watched his apartment dissolve into tiny pixels, flying off into a foggy white void. Conner ran back into his room, locking the door behind him. He crouched behind his bed like a child, holding Bree's purple beanie in his hands. He felt the roar of the wind as the door to his room dissolved and everything around him was sucked into the white nothingness. The gusts of wind tugged at the purple beanie in his hands, trying to pry it from his fingers. Conner desperately held on, refusing to let go. The last of the bed he had hidden behind dissolved into the vortex, leaving only Conner, the beanie, and a small bit of flooring that he was standing on. Conner watched in despair as Bree's beanie slowly dissolved in his hands, sucked into the white void. He closed his eyes as the nothingness enveloped him.

Conner sat up, alone in the middle of a usually busy street. He staggered around, trying to get his bearings. The street was dark, it seemed to be nighttime. He looked up at the buildings, recognizing his apartment. He ran into the building and dashed up the stairs. He could hear shouting but couldn't quite make out the words. He pushed open the door to the stairs, running to his door and throwing it open. He froze, shocked. Bree was standing there, yelling at... him. Conner walked over to himself in awe. He was wearing the same thing Conner was the day she left... which would make this their last argument. He waved his hand in front of the other Conner's face. The other Conner didn't react, just kept yelling. Conner focused on what they were saying.
"I don't know why this is such a big deal!" Conner yelled, waving his arms in frustration.
"We don't have to go to the Land Of Stories every week to see your sister. Normal people don't visit their family every week, Conner." Bree shouted.
"My sister lives in another dimension. I think it's fair that I should get to see her every once in a while." Conner shouted.
"Yes, but not every god damn week! I don't care if she lives a mile away or in another dimension, you don't need to visit that often." Bree yelled.
"If your sister hadn't gotten herself killed, I'm sure you'd visit her every week too." Conner shouted.
Bree's eyes widened in shock.
"What did you just say?" Bree screamed.
Conner took a step back, putting his hands in the air.
"I'm sorry, that was uncalled for." Conner said.
"God, you're such a child." Bree said.
"You're right, I'm sorry." Conner said.

"You know what? I'm done. I'm done." Bree said, throwing her beanie at Conner.
She stormed out, slamming the door behind her. Conner slumped to the ground, holding her beanie in his hands.
"She'll be back. She'll come back. She always comes back." Conner mumbled.
Conner shook his head, clearing his thoughts. He'd gotten caught up in his memory. He pushed the door open, leaving the other Conner laying on the ground. He could see the corner of Bree's hair whooshing around the corner. He turned the corner, just as Bree climbed into the elevator. He ran to try and get on before the doors closed, but just as he reached the elevator, the doors slammed shut in his face. Conner heard a loud crash behind him and turned to see the same wave of white light crash down onto him. This time, Conner welcomed the wave of white light, wondering what memory he would land in next.

Conner slowly opened his eyes, finding himself on a grassy hill. He stood up, looking around the park he was in, trying to figure out which memory he was in. He spotted Bree sitting with this memory's Conner. He slowly walked towards them, trying to remember what had happened here that was so important. He looked down, realizing that with every step he took, he was spreading color to the green grass, leaving a trail of green footprints in the stark contrast of the black and white world. He reached the picnic, wistfully gazing at the happy couple that he and Bree used to be. He smacked himself on the forehead. He needed to focus. He needed to forget all of this, good and bad. It was better this way. Conner and Bree were laying on a picnic blanket, looking up at the clouds. He focused on what they were saying.
"Y'know, that one looks like a dragon." Conner said, pointing up at a passing cloud.
"Conner, how old are you?" Bree teased.
"I'm sixty four years young, you know that." Conner joked.
Bree rolled her eyes, grabbing a drink from the cooler. She took a sip, staring up at the sky.
"It does kind of look like a dragon." Bree admitted.
"Remember when my grandma killed that dragon?" Conner said.
"Vaguely, I suppose. It's a pretty common sight, so I don't dwell on it much. Everyone's grandparents are slaying dragons nowadays." Bree said snarkily.
Conner sat up next to her and grabbed a drink.
"You know, I think I might have a bit of a surprise." Conner said, reaching into his pocket.
Bree raised an eyebrow as Conner pulled out a set of keys.
"You got a new car?" Bree asked.
"Close. I got us an apartment." Conner said, grinning.
"You did?!" Bree asked.
A crash sounded in the distance, snapping Conner out of his memories. He stared into the white void as it absorbed the world around him, until only he and Bree were left. He felt a strange sense of guilt as he watched her dissolve. He'd erased her and this memory, this joyful memory from his mind. Well, not yet. The white nothingness encompassed him as he shut his eyes, preparing for the next memory to be erased.
