《A Normal Transfer Student [Bleach Fanfic]》And now I'm seeing things I shouldn't. [4]

Again! My lunchbox! I went to class again. Checking inside before sliding the door open. This time, I entered through the back door, since it was closer to my desk. I took my lunchbox from under my table. I looked up and jumped out of my skin, noticing someone else was in the homeroom.
It was the blue-eyed boy. I stood still for a moment before zipping my bag up. He was standing by his desk, packing his stuff up. His height surprised me. He looked like he was 171 cm. The classroom was in a nice orange shade.
"I'm sure Ichigo warned you about Aizen," he suddenly spoke. He turned to me, "Even though I have no right to intrude about it."
"He just told me to stay clear from him..." I looked over to his wrist, noticing a cross-like pendant. But it didn't look like a religious cross.
He raised an eyebrow, "He only told you that?" he chuckled, "I should have expected that," he adjusted his glasses, "Aizen is a dangerous man. You should stay clear of him. Getting involved would create a different mess," he pushed his chair in, "Not to sound rude, but you should go back to your country. You look like a normal exchange student."
"What do y'all mean by normal exchange student?" I asked, sounding a bit crossed, "What kind of exchange students does this school get, anyway?!"
"I would tell you, but I don't think you can understand," he simply muttered. His statement made me feel like an idiot. "Besides, it would be dangerous to tell you."
My hand formed a fist as I held my head down, "I understand." I slung my bag onto my shoulder, "Have a nice evening," my voice was monotone as I held myself back from pouncing on the boy. I quickly walked out of the class.

"It would be dangerous to tell me," I mumbled as I kicked some small rocks on the road. "Tch, what is going on anyway? It feels like a freakish dream." A takeaway was in my hand. The sky was already pitch black. Only the white lights of the street lamps were guiding me.
I held my breath. I do this often as a reality check. And I doubted this was reality. I was ready to wake up in my usual bed back in my old country and repeat my usual schedule. I exhaled, realising I was in reality.
The hairs on the back of my neck rose suddenly. I stopped. I wasn't usually afraid to walk alone at night, but suddenly it felt different. It was suddenly colder than usual. I shrugged off the feeling, it's just the weather.
I turned, looking around, seeing nothing. But I could see a faint outline in the distance. It was like that heatwave thing, where when something gets too hot, it radiates small waves. Uneasiness settled in my stomach.
I looked at the concrete, seeing two circles of crushed concrete as if a heavy force was standing over it. I focused my vision on it, starting to see an outline of a silhouette. It was large. Larger than anything I had ever seen. It looked like it shouldn't exist.
The ground rumbled as I noticed it running towards me with heavy footsteps. I turned on my heels and started running. What is chasing me?! I couldn't see it clearly, but I could sense it. An ear-piercing sound came out of it.
Please tell me this is a dream!
I took turns. The problem was I wasn't familiar with the place yet, so I could easily get lost. Worse, I could run into dead ends. I looked behind me, the silhouette was on my tail. It was surprisingly fast for something that big.

I screamed, hoping someone would hear me. But that only made my condition worse. I wasn't very athletic. Even with the adrenaline pumping through me, it only lasted for a few minutes. I was getting tired. My feet ached, and it was ready to cramp up.
I tripped, falling onto the floor. I held on to my leg as it cramped. My eyes widened, seeing the silhouette coming nearer. I looked away from the thing, shielding myself with my arm, shutting my eyes tight, knowing it would be useless.
The stomping stopped. I slowly opened my eyes, putting my hand away. "You alright?" I looked up, seeing the blue-eyed boy. In his hand was a glowing blue circle with a star at the centre. I stared at the circle in his hand, blinking. The thing disappeared and what was left was a dangling bracelet with the same shape as the pendant.
"I..." I looked at him again, adjusting my glasses. He held a hand out to me and I gladly took it. I was on my feet, but I leaned onto the other more due to the cramp earlier.
He noticed this, "Can you walk?"
"Don't worry, it's just a little cramp," I patted his shoulder. Little was an understatement of how incredibly painful it was.
He turned his back to me, "Wrap your hands around my neck, I'll send you back," he calmly stated.
I stared at him, for goodness sake. I just met him and now I had to touch him. "A-Alright." I went closer to him and wrapped my hands around his neck.
"Give me a leg, then jump."
I did exactly what he said. I leaned onto his back more, "Sorry if I'm heavy," I muttered shyly.
He laughed lightly, "I've carried worse," he started walking, "Tell me where I should go."
I looked around, "Uh," I began to panic a little, "I actually don't recognise this part of town," I murmured, fiddling with my fingers, "But I do remember seeing a clinic near my house."
"I know where that is," he answered. I looked behind us.
"I have a question."
"What is it?"
"What's your name?"
"Ishida Uryu."
"Okay...What was that thing chasing me? And what's that bracelet on your hand?"
"Can you see that thing?"
"I only saw a silhouette. What was that thing?"
"So, you can't see it clearly..." he then stopped talking.
"Uhm, it would be nice to tell me what it was..."
"Oh, right. That thing was a Hollow. What you need to know about it is you should avoid that thing at all costs."
"And what if I don't?"
"That thing will devour you."
"Oh."

The Way Ahead
What do you do when you don't fit in? Edwin never really felt many connections to other people, but as a physics student, that was fine. He didn't really need it, anyway. He was content to peel back the mysteries of the universe... not that there were many left to find. Modern-day research was just too well-established, too well-trodden for any single enthusiast to make any significant headway. But that doesn't apply to other worlds. Not ones where magic and Skills run rampant, where well-defined roles and Classes dominate much of society with little room for novel experimentation from its residents. That kind of world would be perfect for an overeager, newly-minted Alchemist to make his mark. Things are never that easy, though. The Way Ahead is a very slice-of-life story following the story of someone trying to find his place in a world that doesn't know what to do with him. Expect lots of science, lots of alchemy, a few sarcastic quips by the System, and lots of exploration involving the world, self-discovery, and above all, science. After all, further research is always required. Updates every other day at 9 AM PST. Congratulations! For writing a story during the month of November, you have unlocked the Royal Road Writathon Participant path!

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
