《Snape X reader -a fine line-》Chapter 34

Her sleeping was as bad as expected in the circumstances. It was 6 o'clock and she wondered whether Snape was going to teach classes today. She assumed he won't but it was Snape she was talking about and knowing him he probably will. (Y/N) opened the curtains to let the gold shine in the room and naturally light it. She stepped into a pair of sweatpants and finished her outfit with a hoodie. She snorted, thinking about what Severus was going to say about her 'lazy' outfit that wasn't appropriate to wear during the day even though she would be locked up here. Her mood was slightly better than yesterday, knowing Severus at least returned alive.
The living room was empty and so was the kitchen which indicated he must still be sleeping and she couldn't blame him one bit. She began making oatmeal for two and topped it off with some strawberries and other fruits she found while Severus walked in the kitchen still stumbling a bit.
'Morning,' his raspy, low morning voice greated. (Y/N) turned to see him and said a quick morning back, handing his bowl of oatmeal.
'Thanks.' They sat down in front of one another at the dinner table.
'Are you okay?' Was her first question and Severus rolled his eyes at her.
'Like I said yesterday: I'm fine. It wasn't the first time the Dark Lord did something like this and I managed just fine then and just fine at the moment. Now, I assume you have some questions why he did it?' He waited until she nodded before continuing: 'You have nothing to worry about. He hasn't found out about me letting you escape and you being alive. It was merely a game for him yesterday night. You're safe.' (Y/N) stared at him, glad to hear the news he hadn't found out but pondered about what he meant with: It was merely a game for him yesterday night. Was it safe to ask him or would he throw another tantrum?

'What do you mean....a game for him?' Severus narrowed his eyes and stopped his spoon midway towards his mouth. He shrugged and took the spoon in his mouth. (Y/N) had no doubt that he knew what he meant by saying those words because he never said anything by accident or without having a meaning behind it.
'How long did he put you under Crusio curse?' She whispered while her eyes were fixed on the food.
'An hour or so. Did not exactly think about keeping count,' he smirked.
'Are you okay?' Severus sighed and was about to roll his eyes before (Y/N) continued: 'I already asked that a hundred times but I just want to make sure.'
'I don't need your pity,' he said through gritted teeth. Of course, he was back at his normal grumpy self again.
'It's not pity,' she murmured under her breath, loud enough for Severus to hear it. The clock ticked with each second and it remained quiet between them.
'Are you going to teach today? I think it's better if you take one more day off after the events of yesterday.'
'No. I'm going to teach today.' There was a tone in his voice that made the conclusion and stopped the argument.
'About that letter you received,' she started: 'did you....accept it?' She poked her spoon in the half hardened, cold oatmeal and pushed it out of her reach.
'It's my mother. I could never refuse.' His head was turned towards the right, not looking in her eyes.
'You loved her didn't you?' (Y/N) whispered. It went silent and Snape eventually stood up.
'I have classes.'
She had sent a quick goodbye and he gave a brief nod before turning towards the door and leaving her behind in his personal quarters. There wasn't much to do but she kept herself busy during the day with his books and cleaning the place. The bedroom was forbidden which he stated very clearly in the rules he had made at the beginning that kept getting longer and longer. However, she had visited his room a few times but it wasn't under normal circumstances and Snape must have known that because he would have said something about it. She had just turned the page of the book that stuck out on one of the shelves when Snape came barging in.

'Bloody dunderheads! Manage to explode a whole classroom with such a simple potion.' He quickly stripped himself from his outer robes and wiped his forehead with the back of his hand. His hair was laying lanky and covering half off his face and (Y/N) had to stop herself from standing up and tucking the piece of hair behind his ears. Instead, she began laughing nervously.
'I can imagine.' Snape shot her a small glare but with an amusing smirk on his mouth.
'I'm going showering.' He unbuttoned his shirt slowly and tucked it out of his slacks while walking to the bathroom door.

Cycles of Ruin
Civilizations rise and fall. Kith build them up and monsters, led by powerful dungeon keepers, bring them to ruin. For three thousand years the cycle has been maintained by the Guild of Chaos and its endless hordes of minions who—in absence of their long lost creators—have taken it upon themselves to keep the realms of the universe in balance. The Guild has grown efficient at this task, but some among its ranks have begun to ponder the utility of a universe that has been robbed of the very possibility of change. Basil von Doom is one such dungeon keeper working for the Guild, leading an army of loyal minions from one conquest to the next; burning civilizations and sifting through the ruins in search of forbidden knowledge that the races of kith were never meant to possess. But having spent more than half a century in pursuit of glory and fame—trying to live up to the legacy of his father—Basil has grown indifferent towards his work. Desperate for a worthy challenge, but bound by his duties as a dungeon keeper, he has turned his mind towards uncovering the ultimate fate of the previous master of his house and the secrets that were buried with him. Now the young Master of House Doom must balance his growing interest in pursuing the trail of his father with the responsibilities that come with running a dungeon in service to the Guild of Chaos. To remain in good standing with the Guild, Basil has even accepted the task of mentoring an apprentice dungeon keeper, a young succubus named Elnora. It is at the tail end of her apprenticeship that the story begins; with a civilization poised to fall—its greatest heroes gathering for one last assault on the heart of darkness—and Basil striking up a conversation with his apprentice that will set into motion the unraveling of the universe. ***This is a rewrite and continuation of my story that was first posted on RoyalRoad a few years ago.
