《The Devil's Love》Playing with Fire: Chapter 25: Anton

Sarah fidgeted in the limousine as we drove to the council chambers.

"What is the matter?" I asked as gently as I could.

She'd been rather quiet this morning and I knew she was over thinking things again.

"I don't like the thought that phase five is them marrying us. I don't want that woman officiating our union Anton."

I took her hand and kissed the palm, my smile settled her nerves and her annoyance at the situation. Personally, I wouldn't want that woman presiding over us and our marriage and that is why I had done things as I had.

Sarah smiled at me with a slight roll of her eyes.

"I know, trust you. I am but I just thought I'd put that out there, you know?"

I nodded without a word, letting her vent the anger. Better here than in the chambers.

"I wanted something in a place that was romantic, not some cold room with jerks who thrive on misery. Maybe somewhere in a garden, with nature on a beautiful spring afternoon. But then I remembered you've got vampire friends who can't go out in the sun."

"There are always options available Sarah, do not throw the thought away if that is what you truly desire."

"But what about you, what do you want?"

I offered another smile, wishing that I could say that all I wanted was to put another ring on her finger and her to do the same for me. To dance under a moonlit sky with her in my arms and the annoyance of a flowing white train behind her. Whisk her away from our loved ones and well-wishers, carry her over the threshold of our new home and give her another night of unbridled pleasure. How could I sum that up without making me look like a horny teenager?

"Anything and everything, so long as you are there."

"That's not very helpful Anton." she pouted.

"But it is the truth. Garden wedding, beach wedding, top of a mountain or a swamp, so long as we are together and married, it doesn't matter."

Sarah moved her body, sitting on the seat to face me.

"Come on Anton, tell me."

"Okay, well I suppose the garden idea is nice. As for the vampires, we could do it in the underworld. The sun there does not affect them like this one does."

"Is it pretty?"

"I think it is beautiful."

She pulled me by the tie and dragged me to her, her delicate lips barely pressed against mine. Her eyes were wild with delight as she stared into mine.

"Then that is where we will be married."

"You want to be married in hell?"

"I thought you said it doesn't matter where we marry." she stated.

Caught by my own words, how cheeky and smart she was.

"Alright, I will prepare a section of land and have it ready for a date that is yet to be decided."

"Spring."

"The underworld is not seasonal Sarah, it is one constant temperature which is warm."

She nodded, a little shocked.

"A dress without sleeves then."

The humor died from her face as she watched the view over my shoulder, the limousine slowed and I knew why she wasn't happy anymore. We had arrived at the chambers.

"Remember what I have asked of you. You are worried about the pain of the transformation. You believe that we are going to part company for five months and that you won't even get to speak to me."

Sarah nodded, looking morose and on the verge of tears.

"Now that is upset." I chuckled, watching a slight smile creep across her lips.

We stepped out of the limousine and I took her hand, leading her up the long stairs. Scoping the land quickly, I saw no one of interest. I could detect a couple of lycan and demons hanging around but there were no witches or vampires. For now, we were safe.

"Good morning Master Dremain, Miss Walters. Please take a seat, I will notify the council that you have arrived."

"Thank you."

We turned to Rowan and Nicolas who had just appeared.

"Morning, all went well?"

"Yes my lord."

I handed over the bag of blood to Nicolas for Castian's morning meal.

"We will be joining you, it shouldn't take too long before we are there."

With a nod, he disappeared and left the three of us. Rowan's eyes turned to the entry, widening as a covered shadow appeared.

"Were you expecting company, my lord?"

"Yes, I was. You know how it is when the body alters, everyone needs support."

Rowan looked at me with quiet disbelief.

"Master Dremain, are these people with you?"

I turned to the guard who was still behind his desk, looking perplexed at the small group of people behind me.

"Yes, the cheer squad. I shall direct them to the lockers if you like."

"Uh, of course."

Leaving the man rather bemused at the sight I directed everyone to the lockers.

"I will not part with my blades, Anton," Alvarie said coldly.

"And I do not expect you to, however, that little machine over there will sound rather loudly when it detects steel. May I suggest that you leave anything made of steel and take the rest."

She leaned forward, her eyes blazing with fury.

"I am wearing battle gear which has steel components. Do you wish for me to cavort around without my clothes Anton?"

"Absolutely not. May I suggest that between you and your husband, you find some manner of witchcraft to avoid detection. Don't forget about your blade-slinging offspring."

Her eyes darted to her daughter Eliria as she stood upright again. A wry smile twitched over her face as she looked back to me.

"I am sure we can accommodate the needs of those within our group."

"Master Dremain." The guard called out as he puffed his way closer.

Catching his breath for a moment, he stopped and looked at the group. His eyes darted to the long blade that sat at Alvarie's hip.

"The council is ready for you and your guests. Uh, I cannot allow you to take the blade upstairs your highness."

The poor thing was sweating more than when he told me that I couldn't take my phone into the chambers. Alvarie's bloodthirsty reputation had spread far and wide, she was a fae warrior that was strong and forceful and made many shake with fear. Marrying the prince of the elves has softened her a little, not that she would ever let anyone see.

"Is that so?" She hummed with a little mirth. "Alright, I shall part with my beloved blades. Pray my good man that they are here when I return. If they are not then I shall hold you entirely responsible."

The long blade slid out and she held it in the air, directed at him.

"And if that is the case then I hope you have your laces tied tight, for I will hunt you and make you beg for mercy before I pull you apart, piece by piece."

He stood completely shocked, staring at her. I watched as a bead of sweat trickled down his temple.

"Or," Alvarie grinned as she continued. "You could turn off the scanner and pretend that you never saw a single blade upon me, thus ensuring you will not be felled by one of the many hidden blades upon my body."

The freaked out man nodded, turning on his heels and returning to his console. One flick of a switch and all of the scanners were off, he sat and faced the front doors and never looked back.

"Witchcraft," Alvarie said to me with a slight scoff. "What on earth were you thinking Anton?"
